Really silk hands or full scale joystick required... :)

What if you stuck a PVC pipe on the top of your stick and ran some wires for the trigger? :joystick: I'm imagining laying the base on the floor in front of your desk. the added leverage would give you a little more precision I'd think? would make your hotas a bit harder to use unless you've got some good toe reflexes though!

It wont be perfect, but I imagine having the correct length would help some....

Don't know if correct length but mine works quite fine with P-51 (or Huey indeed), and it's a quick easy and cheap way to get your long stick using PVC. Of course got the idea from others, some around here,

Now that the Spitfire Mk IX has been 'schedualed'for december, I'm wondering about the status of the mk V?

There is no Mk V.... although the thread title is confusing... but the Mk IX and Mk V share some common specs.... so a Mk V might be easy to do down the road.

I was relieved that it was announced that we were getting a merlin engined spit. As good as the griffon engined spitfire was it lost its beauty to me. Although I'm still looking forward to veao's spitfire.

Mk 9 Spit was the best design out fly anything the germans had towards end of the war, of course

not forgetting a good well trained aggressive pilot sitting in her was a leathal combo.

In my experience, the royal air force pilot was the most aggressive and capable fighter pilot during the

second world war. This is nothing against the Americans, because they came in late and in such large numbers that we don't

have an accurate comparison. We were totally outnumbered when the Americans engaged, whereas at the time of the

Battle of Britain the fight was more even and you could compare.

The British were extremely good.

Spitfire IX dive behaviour in trials:

Excerpt from report dated March 1944 dive and recovery tests at Boscombe Down using BS310, a Spitfire IX first flown in August 1942 and used as a test aircraft, in various configurations for much of the rest of its life (Morgan and Shacklady page 329):

The excerpt gives no indication as to the condition of this old airframe, nor does it state whether the elevators with the enlarged balances were fitted. It would be interesting to see the full report.

What will happen next is that there will be claims about how badly Spitfire's wings in 2 TAF wrinkled when dive bombing, thus proving how weak the Spitfire IX was: to save further trouble, here is Morgan and Shacklady's commentary from pages 317-318

'All care' should be excercised when using the metal covered ailerons in high speed dives because of the 'great strain imposed' on the Spitfire:
