Gerg Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Hi there, I had Lock On MAC years ago but lost interest in sims and gaming in general. Now i want to make a start back and the sales mean i can get more than one sim and have a few questions. I was wondering which of the sims has the most aircraft tech/buttons to play with and the most detailed sim and graphics. Im going to buy BS2 and something else but unsure what. The Huey, Mi 8 and A 10 seem older more basic aircraft but does the newer sims offer much improved detail over BS2 to be worth buying 2x helicopter sims? Also, does the Mustang sim have planes of the same era to fight against since it uses the same base game as the rest, and do you see things like wing flex and be able to fly the wings off it? Is the much of a multiplayer community for dcs too and whats the most popular sims for it? Sorry for all the questions and thanks for any help with choosing the other 1 or 2 sims i fancy buying, too much choice but missus wouldnt be too happy if i bought them all lol. PeterP Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) ...or simply start with the advanced flight model of the Su-25T that comes with DCS for free. ... Some have problems to fly her - even there aren't so much buttons to click ( warning: no click-able cockpit, as in the A-10C ). And here are some tips for BS2: So here comes my "standard Ka-50 newbie reply" : First download Bigfoots interactive training missions >>> KA-50 Black Shark 2 Training missions Read also besides the manual this: DCS: Black Shark... Technical, Simplified -Coaxial Rotor Aerodynamics -Trimming the Ka-50 Black Shark <<<!!!! very important to understand this fully! -Part 1 - Autopilot <<<this too! -Part 2 - Autopilot and when you are confident about your cyclic-trim, you want to read about your rotor-pitch trim (aka collective brake): Collective Brake - aka Collective Trim ... and why you should use it. And when you still have time , read this too: A Stick and Rudder Man's Guide to DCS: Black Shark Here is a useful tweak if you using real rudders*: How to unchain the rudder from trim - solution Things you want to have some day too: KA-50 collective: another picture-tale Two MS FFB2 with Cougar Grip Another very useful hardware mod: >>> How To: Remove centre detend from Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Welcome aboard! *if you use a FFB stick or not the "Central Position Trimmer Mode" Edited January 4, 2014 by PeterP
rajdary Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I first bought A10c as a stand alone and while i was still reading the Manual y installed DCS World and started playing the SU25T, i have already finished the Georgian Oil Campaign and im Still reading the manual of the A10c, they are both so good that i bought P51 on the sale. In other words the Su25T is alot of fun until you know everything about the A10! Shadow KT Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Jesus I don't know why everyone scares the new guys with the damn manual....I 've opened it once or twice just from pure interest too see what does it say in it....yea there is some nifty stuff inside it but it is far from being mandatory to be able to successfully and correctly use the A-10C and btw A-10C <3 4ever ^^ 1 'Shadow' Everybody gotta be offended and take it personally now-a-days

I'm sure the USAF would agree.

Gerg Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Ah sweet thanks, will get BS2 and A 10 then. IS online still busy for them and is there a server browser thats usually populated, or can you only join directly to others over the internet with their IP? Im used to big manuals after getting a 2/3 inch thick one with a F-16 sim on the Spectrum 128k lol, the 1st sim i bought along with Apache sim too when a kid, damn 1.3 bit graphics lol. Im also looking onto a flight stick and was wondering if the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas is any good? I dont want anything too fancy and it seems to have everything id need for under £40. Is it solid and reliable enough as it seems to be a lot for not much cash. Thanks again.
Roadrunner Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Also, does the Mustang sim have planes of the same era to fight against since it uses the same base game as the rest, and do you see things like wing flex and be able to fly the wings off it? there is a Fw-190D9 at the moment, and if nothing goes wrong we will have Bf-109K, Me-262, Spitfire and P-47 within the next 6-9 month, maybe earlier as a beta or closed alpha. the A-10C would be a good choice, in my opinion it is modeled in most detail then any other AC yet, but thats mostly a feel as it has much more systems like the mustang i.e. and for scaring folks with the manual, go and count all the pages that are for historical overview, checklists, thanks to..., and other stuff, the main part where it tells you how systems work is not that much after all. btw: if you dont know what to do, just download the modul, install it, and check the DOC folder in the according mod, you can read the entire manual before you descide and get an idea what is waiting for you in each module. regards, RR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "There's nothing to be gained by second guessing yourself. Gerg Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Ah thanks, also is there any plans for a F-14 module in future? Seems a shame nobody has done a decent F-14 sim yet as its a cool big aircraft thats a bit of an animal to be able to fly hard. Would add a bit more tension compared to the safer handling newer planes being able to cartwheel into a hill as the slightest mishandling of the controls.. Edited January 4, 2014 by Gerg

Jona33 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 T-Flight HOTAS is definitely a good stick, cheap and works just fine. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Not sure what's going on with it now.

Gerg Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Thanks for help guys, just got A10 and BS2 and ordered the T Stick HOTAS. I was also curious about the mission editor, is it possible to create scenarios or dogfights without having to fly to watch? Id spent hours in i think the Lock On editor making huge battles out of all sizes of planes and watch the chaos unfold with the free camera. Damn shame about that F-14, is FSX even supported anymore and was it a decent sim anyways?
