  8. This is actually not good advice. It only works well for lonewolves and uncoordinated teams - anyone who wants to use teamwork and tactics tends to actually require more space/time to fly their setups etc. Otherwise stuff happens way too fast. 10 min is nothing. I recall leading a team of 16 aircraft on a 1.5 hour trek to blow up the opposing team's carrier. ;) That aside, do your prep work and you'll find that you won't get blown up so quickly because you'll know the terrain a little better, you'll have anticipated enemy positions and ambushes, and you'll stop and observe before moving ahead, thus hopefuly spotting any potential trouble. This isn't an FPS. It isn't about rushers and campers. You have to be patient and pick your way through the terrain - if you just charge in something's going to stick a knife in your back ... every time ;)

  12. I've built a night mission (was initially a day mission, but I realized I couldn't really see the flare during the day) with the new flare trigger. I have it all set up properly, but I am realizing that the flare only lasts for around 10 seconds. How would one go about changing this value to something a little more realistic, so that after my infantry "fires a flare" I can spot it on my approach to support them. As it stands, they fire the flare, and I can't even spot it before it goes out, amongst the fire and tracers in the background.

  13. Another "cheat" I do to draw the pilots attention to the general area is to set an explosion followed by a message of ...."we've just had a near miss...did you see it?" (hell yeah :P)

  14. As long as your comparing same architecture (i.e Intel chips to Intel chips or Amd chips to Amd chips) larger cache amounts will always give an extra boost in performance reguardless of application. So an Intel extreme chip running at 3Ghz with 12MB cache verse a non extreme chip running with 8MB will have a slight performance advantage. The purpose of cache memory is L1, L2, or L3 is to feed the cpu with instructions that it needs to use often. L1 cache is the fastest memory, is usually clocked at the same frequency as the CPU and its always on the CPU die and usually only in quantities like 256KB. L2 cache is a bit slower than L1 cache but in greater quantities like 1 or 2MB. L3 cache is the slowest of the 3 and because its in large quantities like 8MB or 12MB, its often packaged out side of the CPU die itself. Not all CPUs have lvl3 cache. All of these memories are however much faster for the CPU to access than main memory. To receive 1 byte of information from main memory, the CPU often has to wait around many cycles for the information to reach the CPU because it has to go thru interconnects and memory controllers etc all which have associated latencies. If a piece of information from memory is requested from the CPU it goes into cache memory first. The reason for this is so that if the CPU needs that same piece of memory often, it can pull it from the cache instead of main memory. Thats generally how and why cache works. But you cant compare an Intel 3Ghz chip with 8MB cache and an AMD 3Ghz chip with 8MB cache and expect the same performance. Obviously this is because they are two different architectures.

  15. If your after recommended mods- 1. Sharkpit(either Dragon or Toby's variation of the Tango built pit. 2. Battlefield FX sound mod 3. HMS centre view mod 4. I like the "radio chatter" mod as it adds some battlefield ambience 5. LoReload terrain mod isnt bad either, although some people say its a little to green. I use it, but if I was motivated I'd reduce the "illumination" level a little bit. The terrain flares a little like when using ENB series mod, but overall its not to bad. 6. Dont forget about "Modman" for installing and removing mods. Simplest method is to install modman then select "download mods" which will allow you to browse modman compatable mods. ps- I'd give you links, but im pre-ocuppied drinking beer at the moment ;)
