  1. We updated our LockOn checklists for use with FC2 and happily share them with the community, just like the old ones...: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=37&file=1166&lang=en The checklists, to-do-lists and workflow items are of a generic type and can be used with all FC2 flyables. Main updates are FC2 key-commands and addition of some FAC stuff from Andy Bush's Hog Tactics article on SimHQ. Feedback and typo reports welcome!

  2. I've had a G940 for about a week. I have searched high and low for a way to make the stick release pressure when you hold the trim button. I am one of the guys who holds the trim button down to manover then release when I get to the position I want. The trim works really good on the G940 to hold it in position where it is trimmed but doesn't release pressure as in the real thing when the button is held in. I have devised a temporary fix until ED/Logitech can work out why it doesnt work good. I played with this for hours until I came up with this. In your profiler: Open the the trimmer command or make a new one (t is by default the key for trim) if you deleted their profile. Click the "Edit" button. A box will open called "Record Command Options" make sure that the "Record pauses" is uncheck and set the command rate to the fastest setting. You are done. Go in game and try it. What it does is pulse the trimmer so that in effect you are removing the force when you hold the button down. The only annoyance with this method is the trimmer click sound repeating so fast... It FINALLY works the way it should, someone just needs to make a Modman pack to remove the trimmer button sound and everyone should be happy..... the 2 files you can temporarily remove are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Sounds\Effects : Trimmerclickhold.wav Trimmerclickrelease.wav Then you will not get trimmer buton sound spam....

  3. Hi everybody, I've ordered DCS:Black Shark a few days ago along with trackIR 5 and should hopefully get them within 2 weeks. I've been wanting to buy black shark for around a year now, but the copy protection system was stopping me, however I couldn't help myself and had to buy it:D So anyway, though I'd introduce myself to the forums.. while I'm waiting ...and trying to study for my exams :megalol: Oh and by the way, I've played a few flight sims already - old Mig 29, tried lock-on at friend's place a few other arcade ones (which were crap) and am mostly flying in FSX nowadays... oh and I went for a flight in Piper Warrior 3 around a month ago.. which was great, and which actually pushed me to buy trackIR Anyway, I'll try co contain myself over the next week or 2 (By the way, any ideas how long the shipping might take to Australia?).. ----------- Have fun!

  5. Hey guys, a few weeks ago I put together a video showing people how to fix the common X-52/Pro potentiometer problem that frustrates a lot of people. I don't know if any of you are interested in it, but just in case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZGEmbJ7JuI

  7. Here are some nice pics from a trip to 917th Independent Composite Air Regiment (HQ at Kacha). Two full photo sessions: [helicopters] [aircraft] [more Be-12] A few Be-12: ...and a lot of Ka-27: Don't forget to check out full sessions, there are a lot of close-ups on interesting details of aircraft interiors and the overall quality is outstanding. Cheers and fly safe!

  11. Photo of overhauled and upgraded Turkmenistani Su-25KM "Skorpion" board no. 47M, one of the first Su-25KM "Skorpion" delivered to the Turkmenistan Air Force at 27th October 2004. This probably makes "Skorpion" the only upgraded Frogfoot which has been sold abroad, making the Turkmenistan Air Force the first customer for the new variant. What is more, Georgia had already overhauled near 43 standard Su-25s for Turkmenistan AF as a payment for Georgian debts for the supply of gas.

  12. The lack of Radar Warning Receiver isn't a problem in asymmetric warfare where the opposition doesn't have radars (Chechens and Afghans don't use radars as far as I know). The lack of IR jammer is a problem, since that kind of air-defence is most used in asymmetric warfare, but I think that the engine exhausts suppress part of the IR signature (as in many other attack helicopters), which is not a "cure" but it is a little something. In general, the absence of some systems must not be judged easily. If we can find a reason to put one system on-board a heli or aircraft I am sure that it's designers could find ten more but for some reason they didn't! Such reasons, that we cannot see, are the answer to whether a system is or isn't included. Also, we are unaware of many facts and dangers that would sound exaggerating or idiotic to us but pose a potential/real danger and does not allow the usage of some systems the way we imagine. The Shkval quality isn't that bad. In general most optical sensors/targeting systems used in aircrafts doesn't provide "crystal clear" images. The image usually has to be clear enough to spot/identify targets. If you check youtube about aircraft camera recordings you 'll see that no camera provides a very clear image. Apart from this, the atmospheric conditions, speed, turbulence and the range that the sensor is used in most cases will degrade the image quality no matter the capabilities of your sensor.

  13. I have been testing away and tinkering with basic Maths to determine exactly how this Antenna elevation works on the Russian types. Its a complex thing as the Expected Target range and Delta H setting are interlinked in what appears a non linear way. In addition at certain expected target range settings you cannot get maximum antenna elevation. The basis of this is the Total beam coverage per scan is 10degrees in Elevation. The angular amount the antenna elevates per Delta H click is a function of Expected Target range. The angular value varies. You only have 15 clicks of elevation, with each click representing a change of 1000M above your altitude at the expected target range. The aim is to come up with a standard expected Target range setting for all altitudes that: Maximises the full 10 degree of beam coverage per scan Minimises the number of Delta H changes Provide a Beam coverage overlap between Delta H sweeps.... i.e. leave no gaps. Exp Tgt Range (Km)......... Deg elev per Delta H Click......... Max elev possible 2 ..................................20deg....................................Full +60deg 4 ..................................10deg....................................Full +60deg 5...................................7.5deg...................................Full +60deg 6...................................6.7deg...................................Full +60deg 10.................................4.0deg..................................Full +60deg 12..................................3.6deg..................................Only to +50deg 15..................................3.0deg..................................Only to +45deg 20..................................2.0deg..................................Only to +30deg 30..................................1.3deg..................................Only to +20deg 60..................................1.0deg...................................Only to +12deg It seems to me that a Basic Target range setting of 10Km is optimum. This ensures you can still get your full +60 degrees of antenna elevation. It also provides 6 degrees of overlap Per AH click, though in desperate or in close searches you can use 2 Delta H clicks and still get 2 degrees of overlap (no gaps) At low level a datum Delta H start point should +1. This gives coverage from 1 degree below your level to +9 degrees above your level. You are not wasting a large amount of your scan below the horizon. On the MFD Each Tick of antenna elevation is approximately 20degrees.

  15. I was the one who suggested to Yoda that he used Java. Please note that Leavu2 does use a little C++ via the Java Native Interface (JNI) on Windows (not used, or needed, if you run leavu on Linux or a Mac). Pros for Java: * Very large standardized libraries. * Multi-threading simpler and better supported than in C++. * Excellent tools available (eg. NetBeans + Profiler, JUnit, JVisualVM etc). * Much faster to develop. * Portable (matters for me since I develop/use on Linux, Mac and Windows). Also works no matter what Windows version you are using, which C++ does not always do. For me, .NET is a non-starter as it is platform-specific and has lifecycle issues (parts of the platform are deprecated quite quickly viz Java). * Interfaces with OpenGL via JoGL, which is also portable. * It is easier than C++ to write code with fewer subtle bugs (garbage collector essential in multi-threaded environment, otherwise it's hard to know which thread 'owns' a pointer's memory). * It has a very good compiler. Besides the fast code produced in recent years it also helps you find a lot of bugs at development time (which LUA is good for quick-and-dirty stuff the fact the compiler can't help you means you have to find bugs yourself by running the application over and over and over again - very painful and slow, and most regressions or bugs don't get caught). * Java was developed to be secure. Java code does not get exploited locally nor remotely. * The tools, development kits, documentation, resources, examples etc etc are all free - both in the sense of no cost ("free beer!") and open source (liberty). * There are alternate implementations. You can use Sun's (now Oracle) JDK, IBM's JDK, GNU GCJ + Classpath (compile to native if you need to). Java is not going to go away. In contrast, .NET will be changed, morphed, dropped at the whim of a single company - and in fact .NET projects must be incompatibly changed on a regular basis so Microsoft can derive revenue from upgrades. * Because Java has runtime Just-In-Time compilation it can often run faster than statically compiled languages (C++). The French scientific supercomputing branch of INRIA published a paper on this a few years back, and Java has got even faster since then. Cons for Java: * Can be very performant, but you must profile your application to remove any bottlenecks. C++ is generally performant without effort. Some of the reduced development time for using Java is spending making your app run faster (in C++, you would instead spend the time finding pointer bugs). * Can't use platform-specific features unless use JNI (Yoda needed this so that windows accept input but don't steal 'input focus' from LockOn). * Clients require a JRE installed (nearly everyone has this already, so not a big issue these days). * Used to be slow to start, although the Java Quickstarter in Java 1.6.0_u10 and later makes a big difference. * Some libraries are slow eg. text rendering in JoGL is relatively slow (don't want to do it at 60 fps) so you need to cache textures and remember state to avoid re-rendering unchanged panels. * People still have a perception that Java is ugly, bloated and slow. This has not been the case for years, but it is hard to convince some people whose knowledge has not been refreshed from half a decade ago. * People confuse Javascript (a bit flaky) with Java. Not the same. So, Java is not perfect (and C++ also has its uses) but unless there is a very good reason to select another purpose-specific language it should always be a contender for new applications. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programme ...

  17. Many of you know me from various Lock On Videos. Well, I have been working on something in Arma II for quite a while, and I wanted to share it with you all. Might be a nice break to keep your feet on the ground for a few minutes! :) I hope I am not breaking any rules by posting a non-Lock On movie (there are planes in it, lol), if so, moderators please close the thread down, but if not, then here it is: xklP-yNuU84

  18. There's a new feature in FC2 that automatically detects how much of the included PDF-manual you've read. If it sees that you've read the chapter about A-A-radar usage, it will automatically patch up the game for you, and then the radar should work as advertised. There is a cheat for it, if you don't want to read the manual but still have the radar work properly : go to your install-folder, and look for a file called rtfm.exe in the temp-folder. Double-click on it, and it should work. I'm just screwing with you mate. The bug you're experiencing can't be fixed by a patch unfortunately, since you are the bug. Learn how to operate the radar properly by reading the manual, searching these fine forums and asking questions here. If you can't see airborne targets 20 miles in front of you, your either pointing your radar-cone over or under the aircraft, or they are beaming you and therefore your radar can not see them.

  19. It truly is sweet...when it all works! The usb screens I'm using are the Mimo 7" mini monitors ( http://www.mimomonitors.com/ ). They are quite neat and come on their own twist stand ( portrait/landscape), they have just the one output, a twin usb lead ( though it seems to work well just using the one usb ). The MFD's are from Thrustmaster and again are just plug and play with a usb lead. The MFD's dont fit exactly onto the monitors, but a little black insulating tape soon covers up the overlap! To program the MFD's while using LEAVU over a lan I used the freeware "Xpadder" ( thanks to Schizwiz for pointing me in the right direction )which was actually pretty straight forward after my initial minutes of staring blankly at the screen thinking "what the f...... do i do now" - If you take a look at the LEAVU thread ( http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53464 ) it shows some differant kit running it all.

  20. Version 1.6 of my ME mod is available. Please use the original thread under "Announcements and Updates" to download, post problems and suggestions. Thanks. The MOD includes the following features/ changes: General You now can change coalitions at any time (by clicking the more or less "new" button in the toolbar) :) At least a small portion of the unit-duplicate button is visible for users with horizontal screen resolution of 1280 pix Trigger Editor Newly created trigger objects will be inserted into the trigger list behind the currently selected trigger item - not at the end anymore. The added buttons "+" and "-" move the currently selected trigger item one position up ("-") or down ("+") within the trigger list. Element positions are persisted during save/load cycles. The new button "DUPLICATE" creates a deep copy of the currently selected trigger and inserts it behind the selected element. (requires a screen width of more than 1280 pixels to see all buttons) Changed the width of the two trigger edits "Name" and "Type" to enhance readability. If this proves to be helpful other edit box widths could be changed as well in future releases Unit List The new button "DUPLICATE" creates a deep copy of the currently selected unit group including waypoints, targets, target categories, units and their payloads. The new buttons "SHOW ALL", "HIDE ALL" and "TOGGLE" work like their counterparts in the trigger list dialog. Only the visible list elements are affected. So, using the filters, you can selectively show or hide groups of elements or toggle between them. [Remark: The button "Duplicate" is not localizable, what means, it is in English always.]
