Yes Viper, it was lock on and back when I was stationed in Alaska. Weather you believe me or not I really don't care. The 16 pilot I knew got out of the AF and went to fly at Tuscon. The A-10 guy stayed up there and I don't know where he is at now, but I can find out if he is still in. They both only flew it a few times, since enlisted and officers aren't suppose to hung out together. So go ahead and have a good chuckle, remember this was lock on 1.01-1.02. Me in Alaska, after 9-11 Haven't flown in a hog, but I did give the Viper a try4 points

Simplified reference for HOTAS functions. This is to provide a better format (one page rather than the manual's 8.) NOTE: Some switches (like Boat) are not listed in the X52 version, as I've separated those functions in my X52 control setup (this thread). I've attached the Excel files (WH and X52) for your editing and printing pleasure. WARTHOG HOTAS: HOTASFunctions(WH).zip HOTASFunctions(x52).zip3 points

I think that checklists are important, even after you've mastered the procedure. There's no replacing procedure with attention to detail, though both are important. I had created some checklists, formatted, reformatted, burned them all. I finally created an XML for VAC(voice activated commands) that reads the checklist to you on queue, and I'm pretty pleased with it. This profile does not currently perform any keyboard commands. It reads to you, you reply, it reads more.. that's all. (See threads VAC Blackshark or VAC FC2 for more info on VAC, a vid, and voice to key command profiles I've created) This is similar to having a Co-Pilot with you, which is pretty nice as you can flip the switch as it's being read to you. This speeds things up dramatically while ensuring all subsystems are prepped properly. Checklists I've entered so far are: Aircraft Preparation Checklist Aircraft Startup Checklist Pre-Flight Checklist Aircraft Shut-Down Checklist For instance, you'll hear: "Pitot heat switch ON" you say: "Pitot heat switch ON.. check," VAC will listen to you and know the next step... then you'll hear: "Flaps twenty percent" you say: "Flaps twenty percent.. check," you'll then hear: "Strobe light ON" you say: "Strobe light ON.. check" ETC... The current voice profile is set up pretty close to the checklists in the manual, though I did add a few things that were left out. This will be a work in progress, as I'm sure the checklists will change due to the nature of beta. Later I'll be adding all the radio and wingman calls to the voice profile, as seen in the threads linked above. Here's a text file with all 131 commands. Here's the XML file. Just place it in C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\VAC\Profiles. No voice training necessary, it's ready to use. Please post if you have problems with this profile or suggestions for future changes. Enjoy. Oh.. btw.. this isn't a replacement for RTFM! :music_whistling: UPDATES: 10.24.10 - Fixed bugs for about two hours. Re download for a much more stable version. Subscribe to this thread for further updates. 10.25.10 - Changed order of CICU and JTRS in startup checklist.3 points

I've posted a couple of missions on my web-site (here) where you can fly as wing-man. Mission 1 is a challenging let-down through a thunderstorm , the trick is to get up close to your leader and follow him through the storm... If that's too hard the second is similar but in clear skies, though the AI pilots dont seem to want to land until after you on this one. Cheers, Keith2 points

I made up a PDF of the steps required to save marked targets as a flight plan since that process was pretty involved and a bit hard to follow in the video, at least for me. Enjoy: DCS A10-C Saving Targets Via Flight Plan2 points

Edit: New Profile Here is my profile: It contains most of the common tasks you would want to say over the radio. Download and save the It has combined commands for quick, realistic radio commands. As well as single radio commands for when you are learning the radio structure or for more detailed instructions (E.g attack artillery at my SPI with missile from the north) In VAC Builder, click File, Import, VAC Profile (xml) and browse to the You then have to load the imported profile with File, Load. If you don't have vac system there is a 30 - day trial period and it is only £11.30 ($18) to buy Money well spent I think for all the use I have gotten out of it. http://www.dwvac.com/ I love actually speaking to the JTAC!1 point

Hello, I recently bought the beta of DCS A-10C and registered on this forum. I do not see the beta part on the forum. Is everything set up correctly?1 point

OK This is posted in my A-10C Operators notes thread as well but I wanted to get some specific feedback on the airfield diagrams before I start to do more. I've attached my first sample, I'm planning to recapture the background image to get a little better detail, but can anyone see anything missing from the diagram? For those of you not familiar with these diagrams they are based on the ICAO airfield diagrams that are typically printed A5 and inserted into a pilots folder along with checklists etc. The idea based on the polls is to do one for each airfield in the game, and also separate reference tables to consolidate reference frequencies. There were some charts done at the Combat Sim checklists site for F4 and Lockon FC years ago, but as best I can tell no one has done any for BS, FC2 or DCSW. UPDATE BATUMI attached1 point

Yeah, at least in the a-10 you have "some" speed and maneuverability . I would try going out in the ka-50 and would get shot down before I had time to do anything about it :( . I never got confident enough to fight in that thing. Always was afraid of blade clash. Loved just flying it around and target practice though! As for a-10 ground attack tactics, I'm reading a book about it and I believe there are some articles on simhq that might help out. The book, if anyone is interested is, warthog - flying the a-10 in the gulf war.1 point

Not to press the issue but how many WWII fighter aircraft had a thumb wheel on the throttle to control flaps with? ;)1 point

Yes, no effect on the gun. Its a new feature for FC2 which I believe is designed for the Russian birds but has also carried over to the F-15. Awww, why couldn't you make me laugh and say something like 'You're right Frostie, I didn't know that' ? :D1 point

They are working on DCS A-10C right now, whether you find that funny or not is not important. Edit: To explain somewhat this rather harsh statement above: It has been said that all focus is on DCSW to be able to release it before the end of the year. Would you rather not have it this way? I would find that not funny. ;)1 point

Way to go. Keep that up and you'll discourage even more people from getting into the already struggling flight sim hobby. Believe me, attitudes like that put off people looking to get into the hobby. Who could blame them? Why would they want to join a community with such elitist attitudes, and who shun people who don't play with the same settings? Over the last year I've learned that the flight sim community is way less mature than I imagined.1 point

Absolutely NOT...I dont want a further delay because of the FC Stuff. At first after A-10 release MP ability between the Shark and the Hog. After that focusing on the next module to surly fill up ther sky with these awesome DCS Aircrafts. FC(2) is good as it is. When all DCS modukes are released, so one can think about compatibility between FC and DCS... According to earlier announcements and some FAQ entries, the AH-64 is to be expected next. But I dont know whether ED is following it´s earlier plans.1 point

Also check for "Game Flight Mode" and "Game Avionics Mode" under Options. Make sure you uncheck those and that you've assigned your key profiles to the "A-10C Sim" settings under Controls. This will of course turn off Arcade mode, but your controls should be the same across all missions.1 point

Based on the requests I received, I put together a basic landing guide which is linked in the OP of this thread. It's geared towards teaching newer people how to land. Those who have been gaming with flight sims for some time will probably know most, if not all, of the concepts discussed.1 point

Hairy.. um.. yeah... You need the SST software from the Saitek website. After installing it Download the profile and move it to: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Saitek SD6 Profiles All commands in this profile are in the SST profile except for 6 of them. Take note of the key on the diagram. The black items are done in game. It's necessary to delete everything in the X52pro column ingame, then add these 6 items. Programming profiles isn't difficult, but it's involved. Take some time to get to know your new device.1 point

Just being a pedant here (sorry about this) - but a piece of software that is still having features implemented is technically in the "alpha" stage (still in development). This is the definition pretty much the rest of the industry uses (I know of no exceptions to this - these are the names the big developers seem to use, including giants like Symantec who I'm currently doing contract development for, but some other player [aside from ED] may re-define these in a "non-standard" way). Once all features have been *fully completed* and initial bug testing performed the software leaves "alpha" and becomes "beta". A few more obscure bugs are expected at this stage. After "beta" bugs have been fixed and checked for regression the software becomes a "release candidate". No bugs are expected, but sometimes very obscure bugs are found at this stage. Once the release candidate has its bugs removed (and checked for regression) the software version is "release" or "general availability". So, from a general "software industry" point-of-view the A-10C is currently actually in "feature-frozen Alpha" stage development. Calling it "beta" at this time is actually confusing for people who are used to something a bit different. I have no problem with this, the Alpha-stage availability, and neither should anyone else who chooses to participate in this bug-hunting programme - since it is great to have it available at this stage and help contribute to finding issues and the state of the product has been telegraphed clearly before purchase. So, I hope that clears up some of the terminology for software development for those who weren't aware of it.1 point

I think there is nothing to be. ashamed about if you want to use game mode. It is there for a reason. If we could get every person that buys HAWK to buy A10C instead and use game mode, we'd all be better off. Larger sales and more players that might potentially use sim mode after a while.1 point

Hi, you don't have to simplify -everything-, for example, you can simplify the flight model and it will be easier to fly (mostly more forgiving), or you can also simplify the avionics. I would suggest that you not shy away from realistic flight simulation mode though, all it takes is a bit of education and patience (because getting things done correct requires some repetition - once you start getting it right, and then you practice doing it right some more, that skill will stay with you across flight sims because you will now know what you are looking for, at least instinctively if not formally :) )1 point
