I've produced a mission planner for the A-10. It can be used to calculate take off speeds, weights, fuel burn etc. I hope others may find useful. edit:// b1.01 available, fixes a bug with ingress/egress distance: A-10 Mission Planner b1.01.zip Alternate link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8868QEM03 points

These are some numbers on air-to-air missile usage I accumulated on the 51st server during August, September and October 2010. Shown here are the percentages of the missiles that killed (blue), hit (green) or missed (red) their target. At the right it shows how many missiles of each type were fired. During this three month period over 20000 air-to-air missiles were fired. This is an update of the plot I showed earlier, but now using much more data. In general, I think one can conclude the following: R-73's are the best air-to-air missiles, having over 50% chance of hitting their target, and about a 1 in 3 chance of killing it. Of the long-range radar missiles, they are ordered: R-77, AIM-120C, AIM-120B, AIM-7, R-27ER, R-27EM (note the small numbers on AIM-7 though). AIM-120C's are only slightly better than AIM-120B's. AIM-7's are most lethal when hitting. R-27ER's are the same as R-27EM's.3 points

I thought I would release the beta version of my airfield diagrams for DCSW as the charts are at the point where I need to print a copy and then work my way through the airfields to get the rest of the detail right. The radio frequencies, elevations, directions and measurements should be accurate with the mission editor the F10 view and the A10C's internal MAGVAR. I'll do the release as a separate thread to the design discussion to avoid the release getting lost in that thread. I'm working through tower placement and taxiway labelling in addition to points of interest however a lot of the Russian airfields dont have the taxiways labelled which complicates the matter, I'm thinking it may be worth waiting until the DCS release prior to revisiting this. I've also added references to the ADF's from the BS manual and if the interest is there I will release a Russian air force version with Metric measurements once the maps are finished. If anyone picks a bug or has some reference notes for the airfields let me know. UPDATE: Updated airfield name plus some error corrections For those of you printing this, I recommend printing in color to A5 directly, as the map lines blend better in color then gray-scale, however you can print 2 per page on A4/letter Airfield Diagrams.pdf2 points

"Morphological filtering" is the new Anti-Aliasing method used on Direct Compute 5.0 cards and above (5800 series and higher) it uses a post-processing method of applying AA instead of the tradional shader based method. Go back a few pages in this thread, you see some discussion about it :thumbup:1 point

The volume key has two different controls. You turn the knob and there is a ring around the knob that turns seperate. I believe the mouse wheel rotates the volume know but you right and left click to rotate the ILS freq. knob. I've only done it once so I may be wrong on which key does what but there is two controls for each knob. EDIT: From the Manual:1 point

Looks like beta 2 added the "Coalition Score less than" trigger condition and some other changes/fixes. There are also a few other pleasant surprises in it that I hope are features and not bugs. The water level on major rivers or lakes that are inland are no longer rendered at sea level anymore. Coincidentally I had an USMC APC drive across one of these rivers... not sure if its a bug or a to be added feature, I hope its the latter. The addition of a new airbase and some of the AI taxi-procedure logic changes are encouraging changes I didn't expect. I hope the editor and AI aren't quite in "feature lock" yet and I look forward to having more of the group logic and Multiplayer functionality to improve.1 point

I think that's the real motivation behind this thread. You shoulda had it first, right? Since when did ANY manufacturer explain a relatively small delay in the arrival of a BRAND NEW product?1 point
-
Well, they didn't. So, you as the consumer have the choice to decide if you want to keep the pre-order or cancel it and purchase elsewhere....or just cancel all together. Unfortuately, there is no real way to sugarcoat it.1 point
-
While I understand the frustration some are feeling towards BLT, it is respectable that they are not charging until they ship. Think of it this way, you may wait a little longer, but you are also probably paying less than everybody else. If this delay is worth it to you, than just use the stick you currently have until your new WH arrives. If this delay is not worth it, cancel your order and order from somewhere else. Simple as that. Remember, BLT does not charge until they ship. Therefore, those who have pre-ordered with them have paid nothing. No loss (outside of time owning a new WH). I cancelled my order with BLT a few weeks back and have not purchased from anywhere else. I will not be one of the first people with a WH and I really don't care either. If I decide to pick up a WH, I am sure they will be available from somewhere by that time. Lastly, please remember that companies releasing products in their native countries or close by first is nothing new. Look at the videogame industry. Here in the United States, we often get products before Europe quite often. Does it really matter who gets it first? I just hope it functions correctly and generates a good amount of revenue so more products for niche communities like ours are developed in the future.1 point

Yeah I enabled the simple radio option but still cannot for the life of me after like 12 hours of trying to contact tower, figure out how. Could you load up the "Defend Camp Yankee" mission and get a hold of tower for me then give me a step by step on how you did it ? I have tuned 140.000 and everything.1 point
-
Yes, indeed you would. ... Read the relevant parts of the manual. Each direction (except one, which has no function) is used to activate a different radio. It tells you which radio you're using at the top of the radio menu that appears when you use the HOTAS MIC switch. Obviously, you'll only get a response to your message if you've transmitted it using the correct radio, i.e. the radio that is tuned to the frequency your recipient is on. Or, just enable the simple radio option in the options screen and it'll be how it used to be.1 point

Well, my order status still says 11-2, thats tomorrow, so we'll see what happens. I hope I am pleasantly surprised....but it will be a real surprise if I am. I am honestly expecting another "delay".1 point

The next one is going to be the different methods and implications of ranging and designating ground targets with the LITENING II pod. This would've been out already but I felt it was necessary to double check everything against the changes in beta 2 to verify that things were current. Stay tuned. EDIT: Sadly, I seem to have had to institute a policy regarding the YT channel comments. I realize that people wish to contribute stuff, but this is about video gaming, not instigating internet pissing matches. If I feel that comments are getting too acerbic/argumentative and cluttering up the feed--and you do not bring it to PM--I will block you from the channel and your comments will be removed. That isn't to say that I don't take contributions seriously--I do--but this isn't about online dickmeasuring or who knows more than whom, but rather, getting newer players interested in the game and perhaps helping intermediate players get better at it. I will absolutely not tolerate a public attempt to hijack the discussion into a who-knows-more-than-who contest the likes of which litter flight sim communities and turn more casual players off to the genre. Your cooperation is appreciated.1 point

Good Job mate..! I's so cool that you've found a "scavanging source" for those hard to come by, and sometimes even over expencive parts..! Just in one discarded, old, left outside to rot, photo copy macine I found 11 steppermotors, hundreds of different gears and belt and pullies. Two powersupplyes (12V and 24V), a standard LCD screen that works with my Arduino card and a bunch of different axles and bearings... It took me a couple of hours to break the whole thing down. But it was well worth the scavenging. I'm left with parts that I can use valuing above what I would ever even consider paying. AND the last owner was satified that he now had only two medium sized cardboard boxes to get rid off! Both of them light enough to lift, and small enough to fit in the trunk of he's car.... And this machine was considered to be worthless..? Just because it didn't fullfill it's primary purpose anymore? So I applaud any form of "scavanging" for two reasons. First of all it forces you to think outside the box.! You have to get an understanding of how the "junk" machine works, to know if there might parts in it you could use..? So weather you like it, or not, you're learning and that's good.! But at the same time as you figure out where there might be one of those illusive parts that you need, you see the different sollutions the engineers have used to solve everyday challenges that our machines do for us. And it's here you're bound to strike gold everytime..! There are some pretty smart men and women out there.. Secondly it's just the intelligent thing to to, if you ask me..! I mean, where is the sence in ordering, for instance, expencive stepper motors from ebay. And at the same time clean out your hobby room, throwing away three old inkjet printers to make room for your simulator project..? Not knowing that each one has two of the needed, AND all the gears you would have needed inside them..? And how many times do you think you have been guilty of doing so..!? It's this quriosity that drives me to always wanting to understand WHY it works. Not just accepting that it does, but obtaining a general understanding of how everything works, that has given me this elevated respect for russian engineers and the way they approach problems.! It's so different from the western way off designing and commity meetings and more drawings and then some lunch and MAYBE a working prototype after six years... Complex and always trying to fill more functions than it was ment to do. Compared to the russian way off building a series of prototypes untill you finally find yourselves adequatly satified with the end product.. And in every little part the KISS principle is evident.. Solving complex functions with simple (often non-electronic) strokes of genious..! It's just mindbogglingly beautifull..! And IT WORKS.! Just look at the trigger mechanism in the Balckshark.. It does away with the need for at least one onboard computer, and it will never need to reboot or get shot out my a lucky small arms hit.. Most of the time the parts look like crap compared to the western counterparts. But that is just us being used to our own way of thinking. The Balckshark is a fighting machine! It WILL get shot at, and it will be pushed beond it's pre-set flight envelope, to save it's pilot in a pinch. So why spend hundreds of workhours perfecting the surface of the cyclic stick handle, when the alternative is to producing 20 handles in the same amount of time.?.? As long as the set dimetions are correct, it's just smart thinking? Just from studying the western vs. eastern characteristics over the last 50 years in the miletary aero industry, I noticed that not only have the different eastern design burau's made maching models to the west. But since the first time we saw the MIG-29 series, it was quite evident that the path might be different from the west, but it was sure as H*LL paralell!! (and maybe even slightly ahead off us on many points) Cred to you Hellfrog for crossing over to the green side (you'll get a cookie later)..! And the rest of you, go out to your closest landfill, and talk to the guys that work there..! They will most likely give you all the help you need if you ask them nicely..? So next time they pick up an old photocopier from the street, maybe they can set it aside for a week. So that you get to take it apart and geet your much needed parts before they crush it..! ..... I don't mean sound all "Green and Angry" guys. But it's a fact that since 5 years ago, I noticed a change in our local landfill site. And now It's actually a fitting site for my sunday walk..! I'm not kidding..! It looks more lake a park than it does a landfill..! And you can't complain with that..! hehe:music_whistling:1 point

Just for the fun, it's not impossible, but 3'rd try. But I would rather see stationary, pop up camo net, after a few min. Because like it is now, it seems not fair to have uncovered and very visible, even IR profile looking same as easier targets. Would be better for buisness to have SAM units without camo net, and easy targeting for newcomers, and harder with camo net, for us who like a challenge. Just my opinion. To summarize, the workarounds suggested are: For the missile seeker slew issue, manifested as the missile seeker slewing in a direction other than that commanded: * use a mouse for AGM-65D seeker slew. Of course, this is completely unrealistic and will break using the mouse to change your view. * don't use zoom. Of course, this is also completely unrealistic. Real Mavericks have no such limitation. For the missile lock bug, manifested as the missile seeker refusing to lock on to air defenses and locking to terrain randomly around the selected target: * There is no work-around. This appears to be done to deliberately to increase the 'challenge' for the A-10A in patch 1.2.1 and disregards the capability of the real Maverick to discriminate and destroy *all* targets at medium range (that is, what they were designed to do). This seeker 'feature' discriminates between air defenses and all other vehicles (which can be locked at longer range). Of course, this is completely unrealistic, and was probably done for the same reason as the AIM-120 is continually hobbled in the game (yes, despite the promises, it is still not as the performance numbers state even after patch 1.2.1) rather than perform as published. I did not mean to bait, it was a result of being incensed by your responses negating the problems users were reporting - which is not what I expect from an ED tester, or any 'professional' tester for that matter. I'm just disappointed that ED just don't come out and say, "yeah we adjusted the AMRAAM and Mavericks to maintain play balance" since that is clearly what was done. Then this argument would be moot and we wouldn't be stuck about arguing whether the observed behaviour was a 'bug' or not. If it is undocumented then it is a bug in my book - document it and it is not a bug. Whether or not it is a 'bug' it is certainly not what is possible with the missile in real life (except perhaps in the most disadvantageous situations imaginable). Thanks at least for pointing out some of the information about the seeker degradation for SHORAD. Without it the situation would be even more confusing. ps. The Mk-20 is also borked in game. I have supplied ED with a Naval Institute Press (Annapolis) publication (linked below) that says the minimum safe release altitude is 250 feet AGL in level flight or 100 feet in a toss delivery (of course release for optimum dispersion pattern is much higher). Unfortunately ED ignored this information (despite asking on the fora) so we get another weapon not simulated correctly. If you release a Mk-20 from below about 1000 feet in-game the canister will not disperse at all - yet the aforementioned document specifies the real-life dispersal pattern at 500 feet. http://books.google.co.nz/books?id=l-DzknmTgDUC&pg=PA265&lpg=PA265&dq=minimum+release+altitude+for+Mk-20&source=bl&ots=2riLD0p9Lj&sig=hnvJKx4pgEcfkUj2fH0SNmFXAH8&hl=en&ei=QaFvTJmhBIjksQOn1Y26Cw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CBQQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=minimum%20release%20altitude%20for%20Mk-20&f=false No this is not classified material, but it is clearly a reasonable source given the specific detail it is able to provide (and it is the Naval Institute Press in Annapolis - won't publish classified but if you publish bollox their naval readers will know straight away). If anyone has a publication refuting these figures I'd really like to hear about it. nb. dropping unguided weapons from 10000 feet or 8000 feet (as suggested in this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53418) is neither what the Hog is designed to do or what the pilots of the 1980s were trained for (at that time the NATO European Central Front meant you operated low or you were dead, whole systems were designed or redesigned to operate low [as I've stated before the B52 was redesigned to be low and it is the principal factor in the B1 design]). This (unverified) source lists 500 feet AGL or 400 feet with pull up: http://electrosphere.info/index.php?showtopic=861 According to this the Mk-20 fuze time (release height) is selectable (pilot can choose release altitude in flight). http://www.ordnance.org/cluster_bombs.htm So the in-game 1000 foot limit seems erroneous.1 point
