  1. Multi monitor set-up guide: DCS-A10c & BlackShark 2 Display your MFCDs, CDU, RWR etc on a 2nd, 3rd etc monitor Initial note: This guide is to help people create bespoke multimonitor configurations in DSC-Warthog, no matter what your configuration the principles are the same. Please add any tips or correct any errors i have made. I'll adjust this accordingly. My set-up is two 22inch displays side by side, i'll use this as the primary example, but the logic covers any set-up. I have included several monitor set-up examples to help explain the principles. Essential Requirements: Full screen OFF (ingame). Extended desktop enabled in Windows. The 'primary' monitor, in Windows, needs to be your top left most monitor, otherwise you may have problems. You need to create one lua file. BlackShark 2 note: Shkval is Left_MFCD Abris is Right_MFCD ** Before editing DCS files please read this post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=599686&postcount=1 The Guide: 3 steps Step 1: 1st thing you need to do is workout your total resolution of your combined monitors. Use the image below to help you work this out if you are unsure. Here you will find 3 example layouts.. Note this figure down, this is your combined resolution. Step 2: Create you own bespoke multimonitor *.lua file and save it here: \Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Config\MonitorSetup\ How do this: (Read through this entire section before starting your *lua file), 1st time through you might well go WTF!, but trust me it is not that complicated. :) First look at the default existing files in this location; (\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Config\MonitorSetup\). They are good examples and the default ones provided with the game: There is one example original ED file: LMFCD+Camera+RMFCD.lua My example: My_example.lua NOTES: What it all means: ED have used wording rather than numeric x/y coordinates. This is to allow flexibility. You can also use this format, but i find it more complicated, so i use the numeric pixel option. In ED's method screen.width = the combined width of all your monitors, (x), screen.height = the combined height of all your monitors, (y). So for me screen.width = 3360 (2x1680), screen.height = (1050) I wanted both MFCDs on my 2nd monitor, this is located on the right of my main monitor. Both my monitors are 1680x1050. Center = your cockpit view x=0, y=0; is always located at the top left corner of your 'primary' monitor, in Windows. The x & y coordinates always refer to the top left corner of each element. i.e the location of each MFCD is their top left corner. You do not generally need to edit viewDx, viewDy or aspect. But it's worth checking the aspect ratio. This is calculated by dividing your width by height of you cockpit monitor. name = is the name that will be displayed in the game options drop down under Monitors. (Make it unique) width = & height = are x & y resolutions in pixels associated with each item, cockpit (centre), MFCDs, RWR, CDU etc. Look at the spoilers below to explain the x/y system: Screen coordinates explanation: 3 example setups to help explain screen coordinates. Both x & y start on the top left corner of the left most monitor. x goes across the horizontal while y goes down the vertical. My example set-up displayed: - putting it into practice, refer to my lua file My_example.lua above to understand what is going on. Ok now you should be able to start creating your own bespoke multi-monitor file accordingly to your own set-up, if i have made this clear enough and you have wrapped your brain around how this all works. I'd suggest you use my example above and edit it to suite your setup. You need to save this file as file type .lua and save it in \Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Config\MonitorSetup. Step 3: Launch the game.. go to Options. (Here you need to do two things) Firstly you should now be able to select your bespoke file from the drop down list labelled; MONITORS (If it is not in the list you have most likely made a small mistake with the lua code.. check for missing { , ) etc. if any part of the code is missing it will not be available to select.) Secondly you need to enter your combined resolution, you can simply type this in. This is the total resolution you worked out at the start of this guide. See image below: Your aspect ratio will alter itself. General Notes: You can edit you monitor file on the fly, i.e without having to quit the game. Can save a lot of hassle. If you don't get the results you want simply quit flight, alt tab, edit the file, alt tab back and click fly again... your new setting will be used. I hope this is clear enough. Enjoy. Screenshot of my set-up: ____________________________________________ ____________________________________________ Advanced section: Adding CDU, RWR, Clock etc as Viewports = Please read icemaker's thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70716 on how to do this. Below is my present setup incorporating MFCDs, RWR & CDU Incorporating Hawg Touch: Clear Dark's Hawg Touch program: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71729 My Hawg Touch profiles: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70364 I'll be releasing a new Hawg Touch profile for the MFCDs, CDU & RWR shortly. Just awaiting to clear up a issue with it. Here is what it looks like: Updated 27th June 2011.

  2. Simplified reference for HOTAS functions. This is to provide a better format (one page rather than the manual's 8.) NOTE: Some switches (like Boat) are not listed in the X52 version, as I've separated those functions in my X52 control setup (this thread). I've attached the Excel files (WH and X52) for your editing and printing pleasure. WARTHOG HOTAS: HOTASFunctions(WH).zip HOTASFunctions(x52).zip

  3. Personally I know squat about the technical details of the tracer rounds, but one of the things that amazed me reading those books about operation Desert Storm is the thrilling visions of the triple-A attack at night. Here is some excerpts about the those red hose streams: Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War. William L. Smallwood. Strike Eagle: flying the F-15E in the Gulf War. William L. Smallwood. Vipers in the Storm: Diary of a Gulf War Fighter Pilot. Keith Rosenkranz. This awesome thread about tracers color is full of information: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=28144 My question is simple, and I hope is not silly. Why yellow-white tracers instead of orange-red?

  14. Unbelieveable about what? I never said it meant the missile sucked - in fact IMHO it is a good example for pretty much all missiles contemporary to the one launched. As far as your opinion goes, plenty of missiles can do that - it really doesn't make R-73 (or R-60, if that is what it was) special in any way.

  15. Ok...I just got off the phone with BLT (never do email....too easy not to get any good clarification). I was told that they did get some in recently. I wasnt told how many, but I placed my order on 10/20 & was one of the last few in that inital 'batch' that they were supposed to get in stock. I think it was 86 or so & I may have been #83 or #84 I think. My order status still stays its not in stock. I was told they are going in order with the backorders (you lucky batages who ordered extremely early!) and that the next shipment will be in on Nov 23rd. I was told mine was in that next shipment, but I'll keep checking to see if anything changes on my order status. So it sounds like they are getting them in finally are going 'in order' of the backorders. OHHH.....I also asked about the pricing & they ARE honoring the pre-order price for those who pre-ordered. So I may have to wait, but I'll be getting this puppy at the $405 price which is worth it for me. The new price is only for 'new' orders & its due the vendor raising the price on them (take that statement however you want).....;)

  32. The MiG-29 can manage an overshoot onto grass near the runway without blowing up I've noticed (I had no brakes last flight), but the Su-25 serie is the only one specifically designed for rough independent operations from unpaved fields. The Su-25 carries its own service kit and APU internally, its engines can run on any available fuel type including diesel. You can land a Frogfoot on any flat strip with little preparation and meet it with a couple of trucks carrying munitions and siphon some diesel or pour some vodka and kerosine in the tanks and go do combat operations, it was designed for this. No kidding, there's a couple of civilian airliners/cargo haulers they make with similar capabilities, it's really unbelievably remarkable by western standards. Pretty much all other modern combat aircraft are designed to be operated from paved airbases, only a handful like the Fulcrum can manage a well prepared grass strip in emergencies. The "rough field capability" advertised for Russian birds really means just that they don't necessarily do a walk down the runway every morning to make sure there are no FOD to get sucked into the engine, they do operations with little or no preparation as soon as they climb out of bed and with the runway covered in snow, whilst modern Russian birds are all STOL so they can operate from smaller forward airbases that wouldn't support American models. The Germans said one of the remarkable things about the Fulcrum was that it could operate under conditions that would never support an F-16 (whilst Eagles need infamously large, well serviced bases with full support services). They still use paved runways though. Probably the closest western parallel to Russian birds are the Swedes with their STOL and rough field capable air force, designed to use roadways and mobile support services as ad hoc airbases in wartime.

  36. Strange, my experience is very different. With brain bucket or noise canceling headsets I could hear details even in noisy CH-46 and Apache. A pal tells the story about hearing a cavitating hydraulic pump at the 180 just before a trap in an A6. Now days he and I often fly a C-45H together and even with noise cnxing headsets we can hear boost pumps, gear and flap motors. But maybe after 40+ years in the saddle we're just imagining it, so you may be right.

  37. That's really not helpful to anyone. As a pilot with an ANR headset, when you put them on, the world gets quite for you so you can do your job. Talk to ATC. Communicate. Even cheap sets can cancel a lot of noise. Because that is what they are designed to do. Now back on topic.

  40. These are some numbers on air-to-air missile usage I accumulated on the 51st server during August, September and October 2010. Shown here are the percentages of the missiles that killed (blue), hit (green) or missed (red) their target. At the right it shows how many missiles of each type were fired. During this three month period over 20000 air-to-air missiles were fired. This is an update of the plot I showed earlier, but now using much more data. In general, I think one can conclude the following: R-73's are the best air-to-air missiles, having over 50% chance of hitting their target, and about a 1 in 3 chance of killing it. Of the long-range radar missiles, they are ordered: R-77, AIM-120C, AIM-120B, AIM-7, R-27ER, R-27EM (note the small numbers on AIM-7 though). AIM-120C's are only slightly better than AIM-120B's. AIM-7's are most lethal when hitting. R-27ER's are the same as R-27EM's.

Most of us have experienced the wonders of da weed and most have seen what a life wasting drug it is if used excessively. To legalise it adds another plight on the future prospects of the next generation. But in the end freedom of choice is the buzz word of the last 50+years, for good or bad we'll all see the results.

  44. I just compiled a color-coded reference card for both the stick and throttle (including the manual images), excluding the buttons on the base of the TM WH, but those are labelled anyway. I put them in the attachment, can't seem to make embedding work. I got this done in preparation for the arrival of the beast beginning next week from computeruniverse.net here in Germany. I hope they keep their promise :)... Next will be a construction around my seat to properly install the thing! It sounds like a homepit, but the ordinary office chair must also remain useful as such, so a bit of engineering will be required to enable a click-and-go solution.
