Formation flight: view form an AN-26B2 points

I guess I should also answer the opening post's question :) Why the 3/9 and 5 mil modes? Lets say that you have some AAA in the target area. With straight CCIP mode You will have to dive in on the target and then place the pipper over the target. Weapons will be released as soon as you pickle. If you are low, you may not be able to break off and climb out of the area before the AAA starts to shoot at you. With the 3/9 mode or the 5 mil mode, you can start out higher and not use as steep a dive angle. Go into a shallow dive, place the pipper over the target and hold the release button. Continue that shallow dive, or you can pull up level (while still holding the release button) and then fly the release cue over the pipper. It can keep you a bit higher and out of range of AAA at the target site. In addition, if you are loaded out with high drag bombs like the MK82-airs, you can fly low and fast over the target area. In this situation, the normal CCIP pipper would be below the hud. In 3/9 or 5 mil consent mode, although the real CCIP pipper would be below the hud, you can designate on the spot you want to hit, hold the button and then fly the solution cue over the pipper. Bombs will release when the cue goes over the pipper. You can remain level and fast and then be immediately ready for an immediate break/climb out of the danger area.2 points

I like the Shark and the Hog a lot....but I still really enjoy the SU-25T. I liked it in Lockon, Lockon FC, and now FC2. It would be so awesome to have a high fidelity version of the SU-25T with a clickable cockpit. Clickable cockpits make such a difference in understanding and learning how the plane operates. I'd buy the frog again it if ED decided to do a DCS SU-25T! Anyone else? PS - I know the next DCS addition is a fighter.1 point

Fixed some bugs in my flags and reuploaded. Added radio items to detonate non-agg tanks if you want to go straight to agg tanks.1 point

Setting the IFFCC Consent Release option to 5 mil doesn't guarantee that you're going to use it. The CR symbology is only displayed when the ballistic solution is off the bottom of the HUD. As long as you fly fast enough, dive steeply enough, or a combination of the two, to prevent the pipper from falling off the bottom of the HUD, you will get normal CCIP symbology and a Manual release. Manual release means that the bombs come off as soon as you press the pickle button. If you're slow, shallow, or a combination of the two, with 5 mil or 3/9 selected, you will get the indications described in my previous post, and you will get a Consent Release. Consent Release means that the bombs come off whenever the IFFCC decides you've met the delivery parameters. You must HOLD the pickle button in order to give IFFCC consent to release the bombs. Your wish is my command. In the attached track, I make three passes on a random airfield target using Mk-82 LDGP's. Pass one is a low, fast, level delivery using standard CCIP. Pass two is a low, fast, level delivery using CCIP 5 mil CR. Note that the symbology and release characteristics are identical to pass one. Pass three is a slow, dive bomb pass using CCIP 5 mil CR. Note the dashed PBIL and Pipper clamped at the bottom of the HUD. Note that upon pressing the pickle button, the HUD changes to Post-Designate CCIP mode. Finally, note that I manually fly the Pipper through the Solution Cue while holding the pickle button down, satisfying the 5 mil release critera and allowing IFFCC to release the bombs. :pilotfly: CCIP CR Demo.trk1 point

Flaps reduce stability in both pitch and roll so in windy, especially gusty conditions, it might be worth landing with partial flaps. This will require higher approach speeds.1 point

This was from beta 4 IIRC. I have no idea how I did that and I'll never manage to reproduce it. I was in the middle of Georgia and suddently the mark went all the way to Crimea.. Its a sign to bring back Crimea :P1 point

Yes, I fly them - and no, I didn't say they were certified for use in normal flight, just that they could be deployed below 10' RALT, ie just prior to touchdown :) The thrust reverser can be deployed when either radio altimeter senses less than 1 0 feet altitude, or when the air/ground safety sensor is in the ground mode. Movement of the reverse thrust levers is mechanically restricted until the forward thrust levers are in the idle position. (Boeing B737-33A FCOM volume 2, page 7.20.10, it's the same for all classics and the NG too IIRC. I have flown the -200, -500, and am current on the -300, 400, and -800) I used to fly Twotters too, and if I remember correctly they were not certified for reverse in flight. That didn't seem to stop a few people I know trying idle reverse decents (fun apparently), nor me getting them into reverse just prior to touchdown (on ridiculously short mud patch strips in deepest darkest Africa whilst flying humanitarian aid missions)1 point

Have you checked at the download link? Also, if you previously had accounts at both digitalcombatsimulator.com and on lockon.co.uk, and they used the same login name, please try logging in but adding the number 1 to the end of the login name.1 point

Nice to see more people delving into lua. nice code clutter. The reason I used a random table followed by a random pick from the table was because the first value returned by math.random (after os seeding) isn't really random. e.g. math.randomseed( os.time() ) x = math.random(1,100) print (x) If you run the code above for 1 minute, it will return the same number each time. Possibly because (os.time) doesnt seed milliseconds. math.randomseed( os.time() ) math.random(); math.random(); math.random(); x = math.random(1,100) print (x) A slightly better way above will return a different random number as long you don't run it within 2 secs. Obviously this doesn't matter if you are only going to generate a random list/table etc once at mission start and are not going to call the code several times in succession during the mission.1 point

Look at any of the Georgia Hammer missions, which are brilliant BTW, and check the Radio1 and Radio2 trigger zones...1 point
-
Use the triggers dialog to run a 'Radio Item Add' action. You supply a text label (what will appear in the F10 menu) and a flag number (which will be set true when the player selects the option from the radio menu). For the condition you can just use 'time more than 1 second' or 'random 100%' or similar. You can have of course also use any other condition, e.g. player being in a particular zone or the SEAD flight being in a particular zone.1 point

This problem keeps popping up again and again. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69807 probably here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=72498 and now here. Thankfully, you attached the mission, so I was able to fix it- I think- for you. Avoid touching the "prepare mission" button unless you really want to try experimenting around preparing a mission. It seems to be causing alot of problems. Anyway, the fix is, as always, pretty simple. Unzip the mission, and delete all the folders, then zip it back up and change the extension to .miz. This is what your mission looked like after unzipping it. See those folders? They are bad news.1 point

Wow BBQ! Now I know why I'm not a real pilot :( My goal in starting this project was to provide a more formalized mechanism so non-pilots like me would feel a sense of accomplishment in managing the plane before any combat missions. The level of detail in the DCS series is my motivation and keeps me going. I try to make the missions as realistic and challenging as I can but my lack of actual expertise will be showing. So please keep the feedback and info flowing as it helps me learn and I can make the missions even more realistic. Now that I understand the TACAN workings maybe I can incorporate your example in BFT10 - Instrument Flight Plan Navigation!1 point

When wind comes from the right direction there are 2 ways: 1) direct nose "into the wind" so you keep on drifting on the right pathway. On final approach (30 meters before tuchdown) you should first use the rudder pedals to allign to the runway while compensation with the rolling the joystick a little to the right. 2) keep the right wing hanging down a bit so your roll-rate stabilizes your drift. This can be dangerous if crosswind is hard, because your wing might touch ground first, so you have to go horizontal seconds before touchdown This scheme on wikipedia shows the methods nicely: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crosswind_landing Most important rule is to never let the wind "under" your right wing, because this will cause instability at once. see here (ca. at 0:40 - 0:45): Make a mission with a steady crosswind without any turbulences to practice the procedure. That helps a lot !:-) Greetings Boris1 point
