Sorry for the late reaction to your post, but I rarely visit here much anymore... :noexpression: At any rate, your retort that in DCS it takes all your concentration to do some task, which shows its "hard-core"ness is still rather short-sighted. I agree 100% that it takes -you- 100% effort to perform some task while trying to fly the jet, etc. However, you fail to realize that REAL pilots don't usually get task saturated by doing things that they've trained for and practiced many times, so as to build those habit patterns and thusly are able to actually fly, chew gum, lock a target, continue visual lookout, and talk on the radio, all without appearing to have a helmet fire going on at the same time. You should also agree, that it takes the generic, well-trained, real life combat pilot, a lot less than 100% effort to perform tasks that take the average simmer to the end of his wits. Granted, it takes 100% effort for any real pilot to do certain tasks AND maintain SA AND wrangle his/her wingmen AND avoid surface-to-air threats AND coordinate on two different radios at the same time. We all get maxed out from time-to-time. However, with proper training, habit patterns, threat study, brevity, experience, etc. that task saturation point becomes something experienced with less frequency for a real pilot than your standard sim pilot. I had SUPT, IFF, F-15 B-course, Continuation training, a couple of Cope Thunders, a few Red Flags, and FWS. My level of task saturation is probably modeled well by a FC2 aircraft and all its simplicity. If you didn't have to flick all those pretty switches and worry about doing all your procedures correctly in your hog, then you'd probably have the same level of task saturation that an experienced hog pilot would have. Hard core is how you fly and fight, and train. It's possible to do hard core even in a simple sim such as FC2. It's made harder by inaccuracies inherent in the design, but it's still possible to approximate MODERN AIR COMBAT, despite these inaccuracies and balanced game play paradigms built into the program.3 points

Got tired of guessing at how much fuel I can take from a tanker based on my payload weight. So I put together a couple charts that detail the weight percentage of each weapon and fuel levels. Each item has a corresponding total weight percentage. Take the base weight percentage of the airframe (plus gun ammo if applicable) and add the percentages from each weapon currently onboard. Now you can use the fuel chart and see how much fuel you can take total, by number of pounds or anything else you need to know. Also handy for referencing when building payloads ;) **NOTE: All decimals rounded up for a safety cushion. Total margin of error no more than 1%, meaning if you figure out you're at 100% weight, then you may be between 99.1% and 100%. In either case you wont be able to overload your plane at all if using these figures and everything equals 100 or less. -Seil A10C_WeightCharts.pdf1 point

Someone had the great idea to ask the community to create PDF's that would help the newbie pilot get their feet wet in the A10C. I thought it would be great to do this for the Blackshark as well--and so I'll post the first PDF (pdf only please). I couldn't find a similar thread specifically for newbies, so hope this isn't repetative. In particular, this thread should expose some of the common frustrations western pilots have coming from the F-16, F/A 18, etc. My first PDF has to do with trim and autopilot. I hope a lot of the A10C pilots will consider flying the Blackshark as well--I find it more challenging than the A10C, but seem to get more satisfaction out of the Blackshark. Good luck! newbie_guide.pdf1 point

Don't mean to hijack the thread but that program is really good. Helps me out all the time at work. When you look at someones computer and they say "I had a blue screen with an error message", you ask "What did the error say" and they just sit there looking blankly at you like you had asked what the meaning of life. You can basically see exactly what the computer was doing when it went BSOD. I would definitely recommend you save the link in case you have any problems yourselves.1 point

And among those, you'll run into the 5% who'll kick your lights out in A2A while you're cursing them for thinking they're doing exactly that :D That's the whole thing with human opponents. Yes, many are as predictable as the AI, but if you're proactive, that predictability helps you win. And then you get those unpredictable things which give you all the fun experiences. You don't get that with AI.1 point

Greetings, I made the video below showing how to get the DCS A-10 on and ready to fight with an ambridged start up procedure. I figured with all the new people coming in a simple wy to manually start and prepare the aircraft for fighting would be a good video series to make. Video is on youtube at the link below. Hope anyone who needs it enjoys it and gets some good info from it. Working on several other videos as well with the new crowd in mind. Take Care http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqpN5nlrsMk1 point

Some Steam games have problems keeping up to date. Go into the options to turn updating off, and then download and install the patches as you would normally.1 point

First of all, thank you for this great model, combatace. Excelent work! I've never used external views so much as during last few hours... :-) Just a small suggestion: could you please start using version numbers when you upload updated/fixed/changed model? That way it is easier to check lockonfiles and find out if your model has been updated since my last visit, or not. I have downloaded your model 3 times, now I have three archives, with the same filename, but different size...1 point

Well, that is a valid point I hadn't in mind. This also rises the point, that fighter AI will need some serious improvement, to make A-A-Combat with DCS fun.1 point

Hi Froglips, as promised : Here is a set of three different SoftTH configurations that will fit for your setup. Variant 1 This configuration uses all three monitors and you will be able to control the Shark like the guy in the "Headtracking and Touchscree" video I posted above. Variant 2 This configuration is using only two screens. Variant 3 This configuration is basically the same as Variant 1 , but the USB-Monitor is not in use. Use this config if the USB-Monitor is still bottlenecking your system and flying is no joy. For each Variant you will have to edit your options.lua as below- a detailed description which numbers to use is in the ReadMe: The ReadMe with detailed instructions: You find the files attached as "Froglips SoftTH.rar". Some annotations about the SoftTh configuration : For Variant 1 and 3 I used a "advanced" bezel-management according to your unique setup (It's not shown in the shematics above but it is contained in the files - I started this calculation after i made the draft for the different config's -BTW: Thanks for the picture - It tell's me more than Thousend words!). This works like this: I wanted to prevent SoftTH from rendering the full horizental reselution on your touchscreen so that there will be no non-alignment between the both screens. config.SoftTHconfig code of Variant 1 (you wil find this file in ...Ka-50\bin\x86\stable ) I edited sourceRect to set the render starting point for the 2nd screen to be 96px to the right and "Stretched" the image a little (96px + 1728px + 96px = 1920px ). I also set the transportMethod for the USB-Monitor to "nonlocal16d". That means that SoftTH hands out the Data to the VirtualGraphicsAdapter (remmember the Kitchen? -SoftTH is now in the role of the chef and the GPU is now the sous-chef) in 16bit in stead of 32bit - this half's the bandwidth that has to be used for the transport what hopefully will higher the general FPS. And as the real ABRIS is showing only a 8bit (maybe 16bit ?! - dont know..) Image you will not loss any information/imagequality! I also set "zClear=1" - to on. If you get problems like this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1189504#post1189504 Set it to "zClear=0" Important! : If you cant read something in the multiplayer-option screen for instance - use the force! : App key + S From the SoftTh readme:1 point

Three sounds should be heard from the cannon all in all. 1) The crack high pitched sound of the bullets breaking the sound barrier. 2) The sound of the bullets hitting the ground / target. 3) The sound of the GAU-8 firing. The chronology of when you hear what all depends on your position related to the target and the cannon at the time.1 point

One thing that is missing from this thread is the controller used. If its the onboard ICHR10R controller then that's one thing and needs to be stated. Because you will most likely get very different performance from plugging the same drives into Adaptecs latest and greatest offerings.1 point

It was not just my efforts rather, an effort made by all of us who were working on it. It says 120D/L till now on lockonfiles and it has just been 5Hrs from release.1 point
