I've been replaying the Georgian Oil War campaign again with the new version, and wanted to tweak my wingman again, this is the result and it works fairly well if you follow the guidelines your wingman should survive 80% of the time. Install with Modman package: http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/131355/ Blackshark 2 ONLY. Details from the readme: MODMAN Package - install with Modman and the BS2 patch. This mod is intended to resolve *some* of the wingman frustrations, i.e. make him fly into death less often. It won't greatly increase your wingmans kills, as that is not the intent. But it will make him more likely to survive. * Turned on pathfinding in mountains for lower skill level AI * Reduced missile launch time * Increased slightly the distance for launching ATG missiles * Vehicle detection distance changed to 10km instead of 5.5km. We can see them that far so why not our wingman. * Infantry detection distance changed to 3km instead of 100m. At 100m they would be dead.. * Missile evasion turned on for even average wingmen * Reduced reaction delay on missile launch to 0 for all skill levels. Your wingmen doesn't have to be stupid even if he is low skill. Other things YOU should do to ensure your wingmans survival: * ALWAYS remove rockets from your wingman in the mission planner, rocket use gets people killed in an environment with anti-aircraft threats (almost every DCS mission). * Only send him on 1-2km Recce at a time, 5km Recce can get him killed * Don't order him to attack after other attacks - ask him to rejoin first. This allows him to use his standoff range better. * If giving a non-targetted order, ask him to rejoin after a couple of targets so that he gets his standoff range back. Happy Hunting! PS Wingman AI in Black Shark 2 is MUCH improved I'm very impressed Thank You ED!! These tweaks are more of a "cheat" to help us in a difficult SAM/AAA environment. BS2 Helicopter AI improvements from ED: PPS this is what happened to my wingman before I tweaked it - notice anything missing? :megalol:2 points

I can think of two good reasons that this is being discussed.. Rightly people probably fear there will be no word prior to its release. ED have a track record for this. And people rightly would like to have their opinion heard by ED prior to the release / decision being made. While i agree one does not need to act like a dog with a bone... but the initiative is clearly in ED hands, they could simply let us know what they plan to do.. they must have had long enough to decide, and if they haven't decided the community should be making its feeling heard on this subject.2 points

I few weeks ago I stumbled on the "Inside view of TM HOTAS Warthog"-thread and read with interest about hairiness of balls and the stick's sticktion-stucktion-stickiness and different proposed solutions. Overall I've been quite happy with the stick, but being one of those claiming that the movement could be smoother I was not completely happy. In relation to that I readily admit that I might be quite picky about the smoothness. The stick provides good tactile feedback around the center, so I would rather avoid the proposed solution of removing the big spring and space-wise there is unfortunately no room for the garden hose neck extension. Instead I opted for the re-greasing solution proposed by Callsign.Vega. Below is a description of how I got the stick smooth using the Molykote EM-30L grease: Encouraged by Callsign.Vega's post and 59th_Bird's positive experiences. I moved on to contact Thrustmaster support to find out whether it would void warranty to open up and re-grease the stick. To my surprise this was not the case as long as the grease was intended for metal & plastic and I didn't break anything in the process: While it can become hairy to argue about the directness of consequences of action, I overall saw this as an encouragement. It's probably connected with the craving for disassembling and fiddling with all kinds of gizmos. I ordered the Molykote EM-30L on ebay. After receiving the grease I opened up the stick. While the initial parts opening the stick is well-documented by previous pictures and video, I have not found any guides detailing how the last part with the ball-joint is disassembled. Joe Keefe on simHQ mentions that he "... was unable to separate the two parts of the ball joint". Being careful and taking note of earlier mistakes involving the soldering iron [also see post 12 below], it took me some time to figure out how to disassemble the last axis. The procedure is to remove the two round parts that are visible on the plastic ball-joint: I used a 3mm Allen key to push them out from inside. It requires quite some force, so if attempting this please be careful. Here is a picture of the inner part of the ball joint with the two round parts pushed out from inside the joint (the metal visible is just part of the base, for fixating the ball when disassembling): And this is the inner part of the ball-joint (cleaned): Both of the two small plastic gizmo's have a small square on the upper side one should be aware of when assembling the joint again: After disassembly I cleaned all the grease of the plastic-parts with mild soap and water [also see post 9 below] - it took quite a while! Re-greasing them with the Molykote grease didn't take quite as long. When minding the wires as described in the thread about assembly everything slid into place! To my big surprise the new grease really has made a difference - smoother movement when starting and stopping motion are now much easier. The interesting part is how long this will last and whether the stick needs to be re-greased on a regular basis (hopefully this will not be the case). Happy flying!1 point

Hello friends! It has been a long time and I have dearly missed you. But you know once an updated Black Shark was around I came RIGHT back. I've been searching and searching and I can't find too much on Black Shark 2 tweaks and such quite yet. (Probably due to the fact that the upgrade hasn't been around for too long. So before I begin let me lay out my system specs. AMD Phenom X6@3.3ghz ATI Sapphire 6970 running latest drivers (11.10 I think), 8gigs of A-DATA@1600mhz, 500 gig 7,200rpm HD blah blah blah (Edit: forgot to include my ingame settings: Textures: High, Scenes: Medium, Vis range: Medium, Shadows: Medium, Cockpit Disp: 512, MSAA: 8X, HDR: Normal, Cockpit Shadows: On, TSSAA: On... WTF is TSSAA anyways???) My framerate is not HORRIBLE but it can dip down to the 30's and even mid 20's (GASP!) in crowded areas with the Shkval on. And with HDR on I tend to get occasional artifacts and white boxes etc. (I know this is a known issue, and no my graphics card is not failing nor is it overheating) I know I am not running a TOP of the line rig but it's pretty damned good. There's not another game out there that really paces my machine but the DCS series. (I know that my processor, even though it has 6 cores, is probably my weak link as far as DCS goes) But it seems to me that NVIDIA users are getting a much better deal out of the DCS series. They seem to have fewer artifacts and glitches, and higher frame rates. I'm not really that upset, I was just hoping some of my fellow ATI users could give me some tips and tricks on how to maximize my frame rate. So first, what settings in CCC should I be using to max frames? Disable Catylyst AI, etc? Should I download ATI tray tools? If I do what within it could help? Do the old tweaks to Producer.cfg etc etc still apply in BS2? (By the way, I lost that tweak guide) etc. Thanks for any tips and tricks in advance. And by the way, I've been a forum junkie for years and years on nearly all of my favorite games. You guys were always the most intelligent and respectful community I have ever encountered.1 point

Back in May it was mentioned that the end of 2011 was a hopeful release date. But who knows. I agree with Pyroflash - tweaks to the engine are required to keep it current. The way lighting hits the Nevada desert will give a much better experience than blowing out polygons or using 50gig of textures. Normal mapping and lighting effects are where its at. Frankly, Bf3 was a waste of money. Ask the Germans.1 point

This is what a real patch is for a game. Thanks ED. I probably won't notice half the changes though :smilewink: I'm so conflicted, do I check out the new patch first or attempt to lube up my TM Warthog? Both arrived at the same time. I'm afraid I'll screw up my WH and not be able to check out the patch, yet I am anxious to see how lubing the WH will work. Decisions, decisions... Just as an FYI; I rent a torrent "seedbox" and will be seeding this torrent 24/7. Hopefully it will help out some of you. The upload on the seedbox is very fast.1 point

So if your a paid for A10 as a beta purchaser, who is entitled to get the nevada update for A10, would you then have to pay for it in BS2 I wonder?1 point

Why, because the Suite that is modeled in DCS A-10C is 3.1 and the A-10 did not start to cary the sniper pod until a later suite. You state "And yes, the Sniper XR pod is availaible with the A10C suite that is modelized in DCS" you know this how? You can't look at an A-10 and say "that's a suite this or that jet" as it's all avionics upgrades with occasional "cosmetic" upgrades as well. Just because you read something on the internet doesn't mean it's true. EDs goal is to model an aircraft as closely to real world as possible, to have the A-10 carry the sniper pod in DCS A-10C as it is modeled now is completely unrealistic. And just because I know you're going to argue and incase you don't know I work A-10s in the real world, have access to A-10 Technical Orders, and direct communications with A-10 Technical Representatives.... The ONLY way I see ED ever implementing the sniper pod was if they got permission to model a later suite version. So...that being said thanks for your pole but you can wish all you want but it ain't gonna happen...1 point

It's not just a copy and paste, you can see that the E3 has different engines like in RL, unfortunately they just seem to have taken the wrong fuselage dimensions. Shit happens, but i'm sure this will not stand uncorrected for long.1 point

Waiting on offical word, does that mean when it's released, a few days prior or what? Good post MadTommy, even a few days would have been nice. Some people don't care if they had no notice and only saw it when they looked in here or some other forum. Some are upset that it was sprung on them at the last minute. Either be mad or happy, most people are surprised buy the $20 price tag, which isn't much. With that being said, I hope they let us know in advance on things like that. If does seem that the Russian side of the forums gets more or better info then everyone else.1 point

Sure. Since I first observed the behavior in Black Shark 1.0.2, (see this post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1057027&postcount=1 ) the host- and that means the multiplayer host OR the single player PLAYER- will drift on the back of at least some moving ships. The work around I used back then was to host Black Shark on a separate computer (my laptop), and fly on my main computer. When I did that, I never drifted off the ship. It appears to still be the same now. I have tested it on two separate computers. The first: I hosted, and 16th Scooter (aka "Scooternutz" on these forums) was client. I spawned on the ship from ramp, he spawned on the ship from ramp. I drifted off the deck WAY before I could ever hope to get started, and died. He, as client, never moved a millimeter, and was able to do a full ramp start. Next, HE hosted, and I was client. He drifted off the deck within 30 seconds, but I never moved a millimeter. You see why I said previously that it's the same bug as I reported a year ago? It acts exactly the same. Of course, I wasn't too... proactive about bug reporting back then, that was before I went through the whole DCS: A-10C experience and found out that the dev team actually listens. But anyway, the moral of the story is that ship deck physics are just fine as long as you aren't the host. Comms with the ship is still broken for everyone, however. No rearming or refueling.1 point

Its pretty funny that you ask about the hind and mention gear problems in the same line. I threw together to stuff to make the hind work, and its landing gear work just fine. The internal view is in the back seat at knee hight, so you can see unless you go alt-f1. Still haven't nailed down how to move cockpits Also the flight model for all of these is unchanged. The file that(i thought) has engine power characteristics is apparently just a holdover and no longer used Video of the hind rolling1 point

I think that is what people expect, but its far from clear that it is going to happen that way or indeed if we will end up with a 2-tier version of A-10C. The point is though if you are buying BS2 it is reasonable to ask up front what the plan is here, even if the answer is 'no Nevada update for DCS will be an exclusive to A-10C when its released', regardless of cost. I would like to see the KA-50 to be invited for a training exercise next year ;), but if thats not going to happen please don't tell me on the day its released.1 point

Bah, I disagree. Getting shot down or even flying with people who can go from cold start to airborne in under a minute is frustrating. If you get into trouble, it's a 5-minute start up sequence. If they get into trouble they'll be back in the air a minute later. Not only that, but as soon as I put FC2 aircraft in missions, it fractured the players. 2 nights and nobody showed up anymore. If FC aircraft are brought up to DCS standards I'm happy to include them, otherwise I'm having none of it.1 point
