Hello all, I would like to present my HD retexturing of the gorgeous Mi-8 cockpit. This started as a hobby project around 6 months ago and has been evolving steadily as my skills in PS and AI increase. The new translation is based on the TM 1-1520-Mi-17-10 manual, although in some cases I used quite a bit of artistic freedom. Features: - HD texturing (4096x4096) - New english translation - Entirely redrawn HD gauges (lines + text) - Faux 3D effects - Faux glass effects on indicators - New alpha channels - Russian Blue, Dark Gray and Light Gray variants - New annunciator light effect - Windshield dirt and wiper effect - Dirt and scratches - New rivets , screws - Central panel texts without annoying "jagged edge"-effect - Gallery / Imgur - Gallery2 / Imgur To-Do Features (subject to change) - Rework the damaged glass textures (HD) - Rework the switch bases (HD) DONE - Rework the windshield DONE - Specular and Normal map implementation - ESBR-3P/A Control box translation DONE - PKV Sight renumbering DONE - Russian texts ( I need a russian guy with a PhotoShop for this) Known issues: - Central panel texts alpha channel (red light) not working (this is a side-effect of removing the jagged edges of the original texture) - Specular and Normal maps not working yet = textures look flat Disclaimer: I claim only the moral right to be acknowledged as the author/artist behind this modification and as such ask that no mirror download files would be created. No ownership of the original or these modified files is implied or stated. All stock images/files used were freeware or copyright free, however if you recognise such an image or part thereof I will do my best to remove it from this mod as quickly as possible. I'll try to keep working on this (slowly) but no guarantees are given. Credits: This work is based on Belsimteks and the original artists work who created the standard texture. Thank you for the great model and textures. I extend my gratitude to Uboats whose .edm extraction tool for the description.lua file was essential also. Also, thanks to Google for providing me with hundreds of free source files and a semiworking Russian-to-English helper. I want to thank also Yuya6104 and EntropySG for testing this. Their keen eyes spotted several issues and errors that were fixed before release.Lastly but not least Devrim and his original english translation helped me save at least 2 months of work with the annunciator lights and the corresponding dds file. Without his work it would have been incredibly slow to find which annunciator corresponds to which in the TM 1-1520-Mi-17-10 manual. [ame] [/ame]2 points

Waiting by my bait shipyards the Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano my new A6M-2 Zero is forced to use the supercarrier Stennis, a "small" anachronism. The mod uses the cockpit of the P51D and is equipped with locking hook. I modified lua files to make the operating fighter from aircraft carriers. Unfortunately as plane boarded only it works as AI. This is a limitation imposed by the DCS DLL. The damage model at the end of the work will be detailed enough, for now it's all in wip.2 points

I think that there is a tendency among helicopter pilots, real or virtual, to expect all rotary-wing aircraft to behave like some variation of a Bell product. But the Gazelle is a completely different platform. If there was such a thing as a fighter helicopter, this might be one. It's agile and powerful. The trim system is unlike the Huey, the Mi-8, or the KA-50. But once you make the right control assignments and learn to use it, it is nothing short of brilliant. You need to assign a button for "trimmer". This seems to engage or disengage the trim system and nothing more. You don't hold it and adjust the flight controls. It's either on or off and you just need to hit the button and release to set it or turn it off. Once you have hit the "trimmer" button, you can then use the buttons that you have assigned to trim nose up or down and to trim left or right wing down. These buttons adjust trim in their axes in small increments. Once trimmed out correctly, the Gazelle is so stable that you can fly hands off. And take note: YOU DON'T need to center the stick when you adjust trim as in the other helicopters and you DON'T need to press and hold any of the buttons. Just keep flying and tap the trim buttons until you're oriented the way you want it. This trim system does not work like the other choppers. The aircraft is in fact SO stable when trimmed that I sometimes hit the "trimmer" button and turn it off so that I can fly manually. The aircraft is considerably more "lively" without the trim system on. Taking off, do not yank up on the collective. Bad things will happen. Smoothly and gradually pull up on the collective and be prepared to give it some right pedal as you lift off and to adjust bank. Ascend at a conservative rate and when you've gained enough altitude to avoid impacting the ground, you can then transition and get things going. And remember, the anti-torque pedals are quite sensitive and you'll mostly need to give it right pedal. You should consider setting some deadzones and axis curves for the controls until you're used to the aircraft. You can always undo them later. I don't like using curves, but I used some mild curve on the axes until I got the hang of the Gazelle. Landing is easy in the Gazelle if you do it right. Watch the VSI and trim to a reasonable rate of descent. Gently reduce collective to lower your forward speed as you descend and just before touchdown give it some flare. You should alight like a feather if you take your time and monitor things. Once you've mastered the unique trim system, turn off trim and get used to flying the aircraft manually. It's not hard and by now you should have the feel for the aircraft. My own opinion, after flying the Gazelle for a day, is that Polychop has presented us with a masterpiece. If this is what I can expect from them, I'll be buying everything they offer. I wouldn't change a thing about the Gazelle, especially the trim system. Once you learn to use it, it is a superior system to the center trimmer on the other helicopters. You just have to understand how it works and learn to use it correctly. But you can't expect it to be the same as other helicopters. It's a unique machine and very rewarding if you come to grips with the differences. Oubaas :thumbup:1 point

NP Blackwolf. Don't feel unique in the sense that proper use of the AP channels didn't come intuitively to you. Most of us started 'fixed wing' before the Shark, so we're used to a single AP channel that's either all on or all off. The Shark forces us to rethink this or 'become a slave to our trim'. (<looks around> .. that's what she said?).1 point

(edited out the pics) So nice!! :surprise::shocking::beer: Last one above me here too, setting is perfect. Two from me then.. Was hopping from airport to airport practicing landings with some others and after I crashed my Mirage I couldn't respawn the same plane (South African *or something* server), so after that I saw they had the F-18C mod installed. Almost forgot I had it.1 point

Not sure if SIMFFB will work, but I'm going to try that with my G940. I'll report back. Edit: Here is where to download it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=848831 point

I'm not a Gazelle pilot, but I am a real helicopter pilot. I've flown a Bell 206 some, an MD-500 some, a Blackhawk quite a bit, and an R-22 a bit. Based on my experience so far, I've found that aircraft fly how they look. I know that sounds too much like a generalization, but I think it just has to do with experience, and understanding of aerodynamics. With that, I thought the first iteration of the Huey by Belsimtek was too twitchy, but having not flown a real Huey, I couldn't be sure. Low and behold, it became more stable in subsequent releases. Really, I think what it boils down to is hardware. You guys (developers) are amazing at making these helicopters perform realistically within the confines of our computers, but it is incumbent upon us to do our homework on our joystick setups, and try to make them imitate the real thing as much as possible. This is going to be hard for someone who has no idea what it "should" feel like. It's possible, though, with research, and time. Another bit to think about is this: for some people, it takes 8-10 hours solid to hover for the first time. And I'm talking about a helicopter you have to fly, not one in which you can push a button as long as the AFCS (autopilot) is up and running. This amount of time will only be increased by two factors: lack of instruction with immediate feedback (huge), and unrealistic hardware setups. With all that said, I think what people are saying here is a step in the right direction. Making adjustments to your joystick curves will help offset having a computer joystick that is not built exactly like the real thing. I've only seen a few examples of computer hardware that look like they would act close to the real thing, so if you're trying to fly it with a Thrustmaster Warthog, G940, or MSFFB2 (all of which I own, and I can say must be configured differently), some adjustments will have to be made. I'm of the belief that if you can takeoff, hover, and land in the Huey without crashing, you should be able to do the same with this aircraft if you take the time to setup your equipment, are slow, and deliberate, and don't try to fly it like Chuck Aaron right away. If you made it this far through my ramblings, thanks for reading. I'm going to try and setup my G940 now, and I'll report back what I feel is realistic for settings.1 point

There is no logic. Just war :gun_smilie: On a serious note, our will is to provide different concepts and scenarios each time in order to "force" both sides to adapt to new situations. This should lead to better training and help improve our flight sim skills. We mostly try to balance stuff like player numbers and features. For example we have SU-25T's in both side as they are the only module for now, able to fire SEAD missiles. Our plan is to separate A-10C's/SU-25T's also on a next Blue Flag campaign in which SEAD missions won't be against Long range Ground radars. So let's hope for the best concept choice and prepare for the worst. :)1 point

Zeus just made it official. So The abillity to carry 4 Magic pylons will be coming (A modification that as discussed earlier was done to the greek mirages) And while im happy for the 4 Magics as it will increase the capabilities of the mirage 2000 especially until the Radar problems that are hampering the effectiveness of the Super-530s have been fixed. Im a bit on the side since if one modification is made that was unique to a Mirage 2000E export customer why not more armament options that were unique to export customers and the mirage 2000E. Like the Armat or a laser Targeting pod (that was was used on the M2000E of some nations) Since if we starting mixing capabilities/armament options of the 2000C and 2000Es where do we draw the line? Sure the 4 magics is a minor modification but its still something that was never done to Mirage 2000Cs and was unique to the 2000E of Greece (dont think any other export customer had that modification done either). So while i like having 4 Magics i would rather have a split of the two variants instead of borrowing things from one and giving it to the other. Having the M2000C with only M2000C correct features etc and a Mirage 2000E with Mirage 2000E correct features.1 point

Journal Entry, 30 April 2016, 0045 The war in the desert continues, it seems as if it will never end. The SA342M Gazelle that I fly is dependable and performs like no other helicopter that I have ever flown. No, it is not the aircraft that concerns me. It is my copilot, Etienne. After all these months of combat, I think that Etienne has reached his breaking point. I believe that my copilot has gone completely mad! I have noticed signs over the past few months that led me to believe that all may not be well with Etienne. His staring and refusal to speak did not bode well. But today clinched it. After staring at me for one solid hour without blinking, he suddenly began making raccoon noises and started flinging the pate de foie gras from his combat rations all over the cockpit. I was nearly forced to make an emergency landing due to impaired visibility. I do not wish to be disloyal to my copilot. But I feel that things have reached a crisis point. This man was a vintner from Bordeaux before the war started, and he lived for his vines and the wine. I do not believe he was cut out for war. Much as it grieves me, I have no choice but to bring his condition to the attention of the medical officer. :pilotfly:1 point

A few things not considered: Air to ground radar (SAR). 4th gen aircraft, if equipped with a capable enough radar to perform CAS with it (F-15E), need to fly out 15-20 miles to map the ground at an ideal resolution. The F-35 can do this from a near overhead CAS orbit, and it's the highest resolution A-G radar out there. Consider this is an all weather capability, where IR spectrum sensors are hindered. Also, higher accuracy coordinates for targeting are acquired from much, much farther away than with a TGP lasing for coordinates. Outside of identifying personnel hidden in trees, the DAS system is a huge SA builder for both a pilot and JTAC. Imagine flying the A-10 and being able to put the targeting pod wherever you look. Now, the scorpion hmcs will and does help the hawg drivers do this, but one must take the TGP off of a point of interest to examine another area. The EOTS on the F-35 will be able to stay on an area of interest while the pilot can scan elsewhere, as slightly less fidelity, yet with IR, with the DAS. This can help greatly with talk ons and mutual support (SAM/AAA fire), where now the pilot no longer needs to look "over the rail" to identify such things. The integrated ELINT sensors help the F-35 geolocate radars, similar to the harm targeting system on the F-16. The F-35 will still retain more stealth capability with external stores than any other aircraft in an A-G role. The A-10 excels in several areas: The pilots, having a solely air-ground role, have more experience and understanding with the ground maneuver picture. They are excellent at CAS procedures and frequently act as a safeguard to freventing fratricide...because, not all JTACs are created equal. The GAU-8 is excellent for protecting troops where many times bombs are too dangerous. I know someone who was 20 meters from taliban, and a burst of 30mm saved him and his team. IMO, it's hard to compare loiter times. The F-35(A) carries much more fuel, but of course burns more. As far as payload, an A-10 carrying more than 4 500lb class bombs, 2x maverick and a pod of WP rockets is a bit of a rarity. The jet is very survivable, and can get in close to protect troops effectively. Single hits from MANPADS have killed A-10s before, however.1 point

We have Mr. Cage to Help w/ That.. The Eye Points for VR are Modeled w/ A Distance between them, So If an Object is close enough to the eyepoint and only over one, it wont be seen in the other, If I have to I'll export a Custom Pit Model w/ Eye Sight Model to test, if It's Mounted to the Helmet or Upper Consoles and Deployed withing a few inches of your face Im pretty sure it's a 1 eye system, if it's deployed away from your face (ie 5+ inches), then it's 2 eye system.1 point

I found a Video Clip with some nice Viggen Footage (including interviews with pilots) Its in swedish but the footage might still be interesting for those not speaking english. [ame] [/ame] Sadly one of the pilots in the footage (Interviewed at 4:13) died in an accident the week after the footage was taken. He struck the water during a Recce flight against russian ships at a low altitude (there was bad visibillity due to weather and a russian Anti-Submarine aircraft came out of the clouds and the Viggen pilot tried to go below the russian aircraft and struck the water)1 point
