  1. Yes. There's another forum thread with people stuck there also. The tutorial requires the user to successfully create a mark point THEN explains the circumstances where it will or won't work. Since the tutorial does not know exactly where the aircraft and HUD are facing when asked to create the point in the HUD tutorial indicator, it can be in an invalid position, causing confusion.
  2. Thanks, I did get unstuck from following your advice. I was confused for a while thinking I had to click Mav on left MFD, while I only needed to use the right MFD to swap the displays and continue the tutorial. Another later point of confusion for players is when asked to mark a point. If the HUD point is closer to horizon, it won't mark. AFTER successfully marking a nearer point, the next tutorial text message tells the player that distant points can't be marked!
  3. Related to this topic... Mi-24s still serving in Eastern Europe https://dfnc.ru/en/journal/2020-5-64/mi-24s-still-serving-in-eastern-europe/ Mentions NVG use by some customers with some variants since 2005. Otherwise interesting to see how many mi-24s in military service and that a bunch were sold to independent operators.
  4. This is still not fixed in the Open Beta at time of writing. Got stuck today playing Mav tutorial for the first time.
  5. Happened multiple times today for me, so whatever causes my issue hasn't been fixed in recent patch. I'm not certain we're all talking about the same issue. I did notice today, pressing Pause causes the issue to disappear while paused. I don't see any special CPU or GPU increase, nor obvious high count on the FPS counter second press stats.
  6. Question for the experts: When I try to perform turns at altitudes of around 20K feet, I lose control very easily even though air speed is > 220 knots. There is little advance indication, perhaps slight vibration or sound immediately before loss of control. At lower altitudes, say < 10k feet, the airplane feels much more controllable and similar to IL2 which I played before DCS. Question is, am I correct that this is altitude related? I must keep air speed much higher (near impossible at high altitude), or limit turns to be very gentle, or lower altitude. This means any altitude advantage I have, while flying above bombers to protect them, is lost after the first pass, as I can not turn tight enough without loss of control to dog fight at high altitude.
  7. I spoke too soon. The P-51D folder reappeared when I played a campaign mission with the 25. There must be a bug, the config files are not kept in sync and can't be selected separately from within the sim.
  8. In the meantime, I removed the P-51D folder, leaving only P-51D-30-NA. Both 25 and 30 models appear to work correctly. The P-51D folder has not re-appeared.
  9. No, I just tried modifying the Easy profile and a new folder appeared: P-51D_easy I renamed both, then started game and modified the default profile P-51D-30-NA was created. I guess P-51D is an old version folder. My confusion is that sometimes when I start the game or modify the controls, the game appears to use the older version. Perhaps this is a bug, or due to recent update? I am using the Open Beta.
  10. The P-51D now comes in two variants, the 25 and 30 models. I see config folders: ...\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\P-51D ...\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\P-51D-30-NA Yet in game, the Controls settings tab only lists a single 'P-51D Real'. When I modify my control scheme, sometimes it modifies the 'P-51D' folder and sometimes 'P-51D-30-NA'. How does this work or how is it intended to work?
  11. It's a fun plane. You'll like it. Comes with an excellent campaign by Baltic Dragon. It is a complete aircraft feature wise and has been graphically updated since its initial release. Any remaining issues are not show stoppers.
  12. I'm seeing something similar. FPS drops from ~90 to ~5-10. Have been playing P51 Charnwood Campaign over Normandy. Slowdown occurs once or twice per mission (~45mins) and lasts perhaps 1 minute. Then game returns to normal. Unplayable during that period. i7-4790K, 32GB RAM, RTX 2080S.
  13. I'm wondering how normal this is: Played instant mission 'Train Strafe' where a single F109 appears after the train call out. Mission review screen shows it took 90 hits to destroy the plane. Wheras a single burst would destroy a light ground vehicle, that plane took burst after burst. On its tail, I peppered it all over and could see the hit effects. Is there something wrong with P-15 MG vs air targets?
  14. Right, good ideas. There are multiple reasons why the text labels are an issue and clustering is a major one. Hopefully the devs can consider various solutions. The text labels become almost unreadable when clustered, yet they often are. Handing it back to the user to cycle between label types is quick solution that could be easy to implement. The in flight options @Mike_Romeo mentions only toggle On/Off, which is useful but inadequate. They could be extended to cycle, or add additional Actions like LCtrl + LShift + F10 cycle All Label modes.
  15. It would be helpful to be able to change the label type in flight. That is, change from Dots to Short or Full labels. We can currently only turn them on and off during flight. Why? Labels are handy to highlight units due to our display limitations. Large labels quickly clutter the display. I'd like to use Dots and sometimes change to full labels, or for some missions, text labels and switch to dots if too cluttered. Toggling labels off is helpful, but switching text to dots would be especially nice when there are clusters of units in view with low contrast. Currently we have: 1) Options -> Gameplay -> Labels None, Full, Abbreviated, Dot Only 2) In game toggle labels for: All, Aircraft, Missile, Vehicle & Ship. Either a bind-able action to cycle label style, or exposing some of the Gameplay options during flight would be great.
  16. F-14 now, F-16 in 12 months. I own both, F-14 is complete enough to enjoy and comes with missions and a couple of campaigns. Very unique 2 seater and shared work (I always just play pilot). Also great non fly by wire feel to fly. Carrier ops is interesting. Missions aren't limited to naval and A2A. F-16 needs another 12 months so while playable, consider it a tinker toy for now.
  17. It's by design, you must throttle up. Please see earlier discussion:
  18. This post may be of help, it worked at time of posting:

    Harrier module

Harrier was my first jet. It's fun to fly and fight with. It's near complete. I recommend it.
  20. These 'unlimited' type assistances are like training wheels. They can be used by new players, returning players, training players or purely for fun. The choice I'd like to see, is to use them WHEN desired rather than choosing them in advance. The maximizes both utility and enjoyment of the simulation. For example, if a player was enjoying a ground strike mission but completely messed up their bombing run. They could press 'rearm' in flight and try again rather than restart. Another example is enjoying a mission for fun, but while heading home ran out of fuel. Rather than simple exit, pressing 'add fuel' or 'refuel' in flight lets them land and enjoy the sim more. For comparison, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 has bindable actions Refuel, Add 25% Fuel, Repair. Used for the same reasons above, naturally without the combat.
  21. It's a Virpil stick with analog mini stick. I use the Virpil software to make the mini stick also output button presses for each four directions for the stick. That way the analog stick is also a 4 way hat for any aircraft where targeting displays do or don't support analog controls. For the Jester menu, I bind a modifier on throttle and the mini stick 4 dir buttons to Jester menu dirs. Feels good to use. Pressing the mini stick is also a button, which works well as the Toggle Menu. I actually had to check if that binding was axis or button. It feels like axis, but is actually button. I see you have the Thrustmaster TWS throttle. I used to use that also, and loved the mini stick. My current throttle also has one in the same place. I briefly did try that mini stick and it worked also. The joystick one just felt a bit better, or I tried it more and stayed with it. I do use the throttle mini stick for some aircraft targeting displays. The joystick is a more recent acquisition, so I'm migrating some controls to it.
  22. I use mini stick on joystick to operate Jester menu. I kept making mistakes moving my head. The mini stick feels natural to use. Briefly tried mini stick on throttle, but joystick was more intuitive. I actually use a modifier as the mini stick has a primary action.
  23. 2x Sensor Select Switch Down (Pressed), not Aft (Back) should toggle from DMT to TPOD.

    IRMAV and TPOD

I haven't been flying the Harrier lately, but this may be of help, if it still works:
  25. Please consider adding CMAA method of antialiasing. The goals are: 1) Reduce jaggies 2) Minimize GPU impact 3) Minimize blur of cockpit gauges and text Basically it's better than FXAA with the same goals. There are (license) free, open source samples available for both DirectX and OpenGL. (I've integrated both FXAA and CMAA into software I develop for both DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.5. So I know how much effort is involved and what the limitations are. Happy to answer questions if devs want to PM me.) Of course ED may be working on even better post processing anti aliasing methods and not telling us yet? Why mention now? A lot of us use SMAA and begrudgingly accept the performance hit. FXAA (no longer present in DCS?) is just too blurry on the gauges. No AA sure is faster but oh my eyes for many high contrast scenes! Post processing AA is a great compromise, and worst case, can be applied to the final image if not just one compositing pass.
