  1. What hard landing inspection?:pilotfly::D If that's all you're good for on the A-10, go find yourself another job, buddy.:D
  2. Agreed, GG. I'm guilty of a few out-of-parameters landings in FS, and who isn't? But I know how to fly an ILS in the sim and a real plane. I think knowing, and having experience with, the fundamental principle of pitch controlling speed and power controlling altitude would help a lot of people out. Lots of people dive for the strip near Vne, put the gear down 0.5 mile from the numbers, and expect to stop in time. It just ain't gonna happen!
  3. If I may chime in with my personal experience.... I was ten years old when I took my first flight lesson. I progressed at a rate of about one one-hour lesson per month. Later, during high school, I had to take a break from flying, for various reasons. I ended up being out for at least two years. On the first hour of instruction after two years of not even touching a real plane, the instructor didn't even come close to taking the controls, including the landing. I maintain that my proficiency stayed high because I simmed the entire time that I couldn't fly. I've also read extensively about different topics, so I am aware of phenomena such as spool time/lag associated with turbine engines, among other things. To get more specific to the Hog, it may be easier to fly than some other frames, given the thick airfoils and rectangular planform of the wing, which give it a nice, low landing speed. Personally, I'd tune up an ILS and hand fly raw data, using the AOA caret. I'd also have the speedbrakes out some, and be carrying some power, for faster response. Over the numbers, close the throttle, put the brakes all the way out, and raise the nose gently. This method works for a lot of planes, with some modification, and I believe the A-10 would be no exception.
  4. Ah, yes, everything was flat surfaces! I remember the two-polygon wheels!:D
  5. Agreed. Anything from RealAir looks good and flies well. (I have the 260 and the Duke.) Accu-Sim from A2A simulations is right up there, too. The lotussim has got to be my favorite, though. That is, until A2A releases the P-51 in an Accu-Sim version. Can't wait!:pilotfly:
  6. I'm a sophomore in an aerospace engineering program, but I've finished my Physics classes already. My only formal, real-world flying education is a student certificate that has expired. I got to the solo cross-country phase, then college got in the way. Damn college!:D Anyway, I've read extensively about flying since I was little, even before I got my first sim, FS98, 10 years ago.
  7. I wish I could say the same for myself.:D But you kinda have to read when you're in college.:music_whistling:
  8. How violent was that landing if the gun came apart like that? Ouch!
  9. Top gear is an amazing show. I love it!
  10. Nice deal, man! Best of luck.:pilotfly:
  11. :megalol:
  12. From the manual for the A model: "The airspeed indicator (25, figure FO-I), on the instrument panel, is graduated CW from a 50-knot minimum indication in increment.s of 10 knots to a maximum indication of 550 knots. A barrel in the top center of the dial displays a scale from 0 - 100 knots, in 2-knot increments. The striped pointer, which is altitude compensated, moves to indicate the limiting structural airspeed or the airspeed representing the limiting Mach number. A yellow mark indicates the limiting airspeed for use of full wing flaps and gear extension." From this, it seems as if the barber pole moves only as altitude changes. This makes the most sense to me, as that is how other aircraft I am familiar with function. But I may be wrong. @Babu: His post does contain a question mark, the answer will benefit all simpit builders (including myself), and that sure looked personal to me. After all, this thread was made for the specific purpose of asking questions like this one. Avilator out:pilotfly:
  13. Methinks the bigger question here is: why are our forum/community members calling the newcomers morons? However, your question certianly deserves asking as well.
  14. That's an S-3 Viking.
  15. Welcome aboard! FYI, there is an entire thread on how to improve the G940.
  16. No! Come back!:( Bad topol.:chair:
  17. I'm almost speechless. That is amazing! Great work, man! Cheers from a fellow Solidworks user:)
  18. Why would anyone whine about having more high-quality terrain to fly over anyway? Bigger=Better, right? Only if it is good, and I have no doubt that it will be excellent.
  19. If you put your targeting computer in A/A mode, the cannon will lead automatically. Just lock the shkval on the enemy (eaiser said than done!), and the cannon will slew to lead the target. A note about using Vikhrs in A/A mode: they don't turn very well, so only use them head-on or in trail with your target. Try Dragon's multi-player mission pack, there is a A/A practice mission with varying levels of difficulty.
  20. The Mi-8 looks real now!:) The Mud Hen would be awesome to have.
  21. Of course he's right, he's Topol-M. :book:
  22. I agree that some people can be put off by having to expend even the slightest amount of energy to achieve results. However, we can tell them that they have to put in effort without giving an impression that we are too good to help anyone, because we aren't. If someone has a good, specific, question about something, I'll help them arrive at an answer if I can. If their question is answered within the first few pages of the manual that they didn't even make an effort to read, do they really have the right mindset to be flying a study sim? I have to agree with CAT_101st on this one. If you don't want to read the manual, don't fly, it's that simple. Sure, we want to grow the hobby, but we need the right people to do it. Okay, rant over.
  23. He did all of the producer's notes for the Shark as well. He is also on youtube as Wagmatt.
  24. That panel you questioned about is from an A-10.
