Yup same behaviour -
VR Shaders mod for better VR experience
zildac replied to Kegetys's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
The lack of Albedo SS is very noticeable (using the 2.8 compatible VR shaders in the cockpit under bright lighting conditions=extra shimmer) @Taz1004 is there anyway to reinstate it or achieve the same effect in 2.8 or are we doomed to get it working at this point? -
investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
zildac replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Just tried the latest beta, and I can without doubt gain the majority of my 2.7 performance back by simply changing TERRAIN SHADOWS to OFF (in 2.7 I always had them as flat). However, this also removes the shadows under the aircraft and auxiliary equipment etc etc, so not ideal. It does retain the cockpit shadows, which I have always run at medium. One thing I also noticed is that even with canopy reflections set to off (Hornet) I still see the HUD frame reflected in the canopy, which doesn't seem right. So something is still off with the shadows, without doubt. Just to add, rain preset 3 looks stunning in VR with the cloud layers and a strong wind, but there is still some significant aliasing at the horizon in VR. Update: I see no performance increase between TERRAIN SHADOWS - DEFAULT or FLAT.. Only OFF gets me back to 2.7 FPS and even then the GPU and CPU frame times are higher than 2.7 -
Thus sounds like a very good idea.

Whilst I appreciate what you're saying the statement "We have people that fly in VR all the time we have many different players. We saw similar results in Testing, and now we need more data with Open Beta" then why not explicitly mention these known pre existing issues at least in the changelog? I suspect the reaction would have been far more positive. -
I'm assuming this has zero impact in VR?

This!! I turned my shadows from Medium to OFF and immediately got back up to 82 FPS (2.7 was 86FPS with medium shadows ). But it looks crap -
Can we also get some idea of the split of closed beta testers that are actively using VR versus 2D please?
-
Thanks for the prompt response. Yes, I appreciate that others seem to have had an increase which is even more confusing frankly. I am specifically talking about VR here so we probably need to work out what the difference is with those seeing an increase in VR performance. My drop is easily reproducible and happens whether I'm using native OpenVR via SVR or OpenComposite.

@BIGNEWY just to confirm the 86FPS to 61FPS drop occurs irrespective of the shadows setting for me. Is this issue also being looked at?

You've just summed up my weekend, and thoughts. Who TF tested this in VR?! -
Ah Joy!

Specs are in my sig. Sorry, but show me ANY rig that can run a Varjo Aero at 90FPS unless the settings are potato mode! My point was I had 86 FPS in VR with my Aero at 37PPD....with 2.8 I get 60FPS WITH THE EXACT SAME SETTINGS. And to say 45FPS is not useable is nonsense. There are plenty of G2 owners running at 45FPS happily, as was I when I owned one.

Specs are in my sig. Re driver there are only a choice of two for the 4090 the issue happened on both the previous and current version of the Nvidia driver. The only difference is 2.7 VS 2.8 so unless they are relying on something specific in an Nvidia driver I can't see how it's a driver bug. -

You're one of the lucky ones in that case -
Exactly. My loss is 25fps in VR . Frankly ridiculous and what is frustrating is this product goes out to closed bets testing, how can no-one have noticed the shadows are hosed even if no one in the closed group uses this witchcraft called VR and had huge fps drop. Perhaps it's time to reassess the value of the current closed beta process.
