  1. I'll avoid the obvious Monty Python reference, but I still chuckled
  2. Yes... https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.8.0.33006/
  3. Same, almost back to 2.7 performance as a result.
  4. @Taz1004 If I just wanted to double the length of the current default (your old modded value) wake trail for the SC only which values do I need to "play" with just length and particle count? I did up the particle count and the length, but the wake was very "thin" toward the end, unnaturally so.
  5. I do recall. Glad you got the credit at least
  6. Thanks for confirming @Taz1004. So they've used exactly the same values as you...eerie
  7. I don't use the system wide installer (I'm assuming you do). I use the DLL here: https://znix.xyz/OpenComposite/download.php?arch=x64&branch=openxr And use OVGME (mod manager) to swap it into the DCS bin directory.
  8. I'm using the latest OpenComposite build with todays patch, and it is working fine. I'm using the standalone DLL however and using OVGME as opposed top the switcer.
  9. I can't see any difference tbh, but I was running Tazs beter smoke mod which I'm pretty sure added this about 18 months ago.
  10. I seem to recall that at one point this mod also had an effect on the ship wake size/length. Given this from todays OB changelog, does this alleviate the need for this "fix" in the mod? Supercarrier Fixed: Carrier wake too short
  11. @BIGNEWY Any news regarding the team acknowledging this would be a very useful and what appears to be simple to implement feature?
  12. @BIGNEWY Just to clarify, there is still a big performance difference between Terrain Shadows = FLAT/DEFAULT versus OFF (2.7 86FPS terrain shadows FLAT 2.8 60 FPSish FLAT), the fix you mention I’m assuming refers to the visual attributes of the terrain shadows NOT the performance impact? Also, the additional canopy shadows from the cockpit seem to be a new feature that may have some impact. As mentioned in a number of other threads, if I turn terrain shadows to OFF I get my 2.7 performance back
  13. Yes, this is actually more noticeable for me. Also deck textures on SC in the mission editor for example.
  14. I see no difference to the Harrier throttle response and startup procedure in 2.8 OB. Very odd
  15. Personally, I don't see the CA that some people describe. In regard to the G2 versus the Aero there is no competition in terms of clarity (even with the CA issues) the G2 sweet spot is very small by comparison. The only downside of the Aero, visuals wise is that the Vertical FOV is a little smaller than the G2. But given your specs as in the sig you're likely not going to see great performance using the Aero, or you'll have to drop the resolution so much that the G2 may be a better place to stay.
  16. Despite my initial disappointment, I have managed to get back to almost 2.7 levels of performance, and it was solely by settings terrain shadows to OFF. Whilst not ideal, it's an acceptable short term workaround for me. One thing I have noticed and others have also reported is there appears to be some additional reflections/shadows on the canopy now (Harrier and Hornet I have seen this on personally). Even with canopy reflections off and shadows to medium these are quite well-defined shadows/reflections, and I suspect they are having an impact on performance too. This can be easily seen by starting the F18 ready on the ramp in the Caucasus and looking at the reflection/shadow of the HUD frame on the left side of the canopy. This effect was not present in 2.7 as I recall.
  17. Noticed this too, mainly in the harrier and hornet. Canopy reflections off but these are like you say more "shadows" . Also evident in the Hornet where the frame of the HUD casts a shadow on the canopy. Pretty sure it wasn't there before. And likely not helping with perfmance. An off switch would be appreciated.
  18. Win11, 4090. Terrain shadows to off = pretty much 2.7 performance except for the increased texture load times. Terrain shadows to flat or default 25fps loss over 2.7.
  19. Yeah, same behaviour here. Terrain preload also takes significantly longer than 2.7. No idea why, as they're the same textures etc as 2.7.
  20. No, just OXRTK, no upscaling. The shimmering has been there forever, it's just worse in 2.8
  21. My apologies, I never even knew that page existed when I had my G2 just used the store. Also, the new OXRTK was released today, so added to my confusion
  22. But the Github repo is for Open XR Toolkit, it's not the same thing.
  23. Perhaps I have misunderstood, but Open XR Toolkit update was released today https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/ This is not the same as OpenXR Tools for WMR on the store however. They do two diferent jobs... null
  24. Hi, I’m basing my opinion solely on the Hornet, in my usual test scenario. Caucasus ready on the ramp. The cockpit shimmer is far more pronounced in 2.8 versus 2.7. This may not be solely down to the non-function of Albedo SS in this mod now, but could also be caused by the new lighting. Either way, the shimmers are worse, quite noticeable around the landing gear indicator lights when compared to 2.7.
  25. I get the same fps drop whether I use Flat or Default for terrain shadows. The only way to get back to 2.7 performance is with Off.
