  1. The F18 100% profile is found through the SimAppPro software directly. Go to KEY BINDING and then click on the appropriate panel in the DEVICE top row choices. GAME is DCS and AIRCRAFT select the F18. This should show you the profile you can then download and run. This sorted it all out for me. Hope that takes it to the next level.
  2. I have both the cockpit and take off panels and all the lights go off and on as they should when I am in the game and I have not edited any kind of file other then used the SimAppPro software settings itself. I did download the 100% F18 config file to save programming all the switches etc. I set it up as I mentioned and it is 100% bang on. Maybe there is another way to achieve similar results but that worked for me. Cheers!
  3. I use the setting BIND TO AXIS so that the dial on the take off panel controls the lights for the panel and the cockpit lights in game. In BACKLIGHT SETTINGS > BIND TO AXIS I have SELECT DEVICE set to control the take off panel in the drop down list and SELECT AXIS is set to DIAL. I also have the combat panel so there SELECT DEVICE is set to the take off panel and SELECT AXIS is set to dial. This tells the combat panel to get it's light level from the take off panel setting and this way they both synchronize with the dial. No need to edit lua files or anything. Hope this helps you find what you are looking for and good luck! happy flying.
  4. Flaps in the half position for a carrier take off.
  5. I have that panel. I believe that led is designed to be that way to prevent early burnout or damage. That being said in the F18 the handle is red when the gear is in transition but not when up or down. I actually dial off the lights on both panels unless I am actually playing.
  6. Ah, yes! I use VR (Rift S) so I understand this method will not work. There are ways to take a screenshot in VR but it is a little different in each headset. I would suggest a quick search on google of how to take a screenshot with your VR headset and you will likely find the answer though it sounds like you might already understand how. Usually a combination of hit this then hit that. I know this is vague but I have faith there is a way that isn't too painful. I have to admit I have been a little hesitant on this campaign for this kind of reason myself but I am sure I will get around to it. There just seems a lot involved. Good luck and happy flying!
  7. Print screen means it captures the image to a buffer in which you would then need to open an image/picture software, even windows paint for example, and then paste the image in the software (go to edit menu then down to paste). Then you can save the image as a jpg or whatever and refer to it later if need be. I do not have the campaign (yet) but this would, generally, be how print screen would work in a case like this. Good luck and hope this helps.
  8. "Ugra Media is currently increasing DCS: Syria to a massive 800x600 km map size. The addition of 18 airfields is also in progress. The final version of DCS: Syria will have a total of 51 airfields including the United States Air Force base at Incirlik, the Russian Air Force base at Latakia, and the Royal Airforce bases on the island of Cyprus."
  9. Not sure what you were ordering but I imagine it doesn't matter - it is applicable across the product line. The site will show when they are going to re-stock via a date. I live in Canada so I knew time zones would be a big factor so I looked up the difference between me and Chengdu China. Then I figured what the times of their work day and what time range that put me in. Then when I checked I saw that they had not updated the site to show available stock or a new, later, re-stock date. So far so good. I knew it was near the end of a "normal"ish work day so I kept refreshing every 5 minutes or so. This was at 6 am my time EST in Canada. Then - Voila! Stock available for what I was looking for. The Combat Ready Panel and the Take Off Ready Panel. Both were available I added to my cart and completed my purchase. Took 5 minutes. When I refreshed their website afterwards I saw one of the two panels was out of stock with a restock date a week or 10 days down the road. Refreshing again about 2 minutes later showed both the panels out of stock. It was that fast. And at a crazy time. I was so lucky and I totally understand the frustration of trying to make a purchase where all you want to do is for them to take your money gladly and send you whatever gizmo it is you are after. I just wanted to share this as to show you are not alone, it can be frustrating trying to make the initial purchase. I have been there too! As an aside, they did not get me a tracking number ever, but they did arrive within 2-3 weeks which I thought was pretty good. And yes - I love them and am glad I made the purchase. I wish they made a hornet UFC I would be so all over that. Good luck and till then, happy flying!
  10. Thank you for the clarity!
  11. I believe yes it does and values change to each year based on historic charts.
  12. I currently have 2 Cougar MFDs setup in a basic homemade cockpit a la the hornet and they are mounted on a wooden dashboard sort of thing. As such, I have placed small screws in the wood just above the middle button on the top and bottom of both MFDs and this seems to help me get a solid sense of where I am. Those seem to be commonly used buttons. Maybe this gives you an idea of something you can try that applies more to how your setup works. Good luck and happy flying!
  13. In the controls settings go to UI Layer and then it is 'chat show/hide'. UI Layer means user interface layer so these settings apply to every module. Hope this helps!
  14. Work great - very happy. Must say the Win-wing F18 set looks sexy too
  15. The F18 truly is a multirole aircraft and it sounds like you just expanded your own envelop! Nicely done - I was in the cockpit with you when you described the engagement. Rock on - kickin' ass on tanker gas!
  16. Yes, I definitely use the JHMCS whenever I have it available, which is almost always, except for things like A2A refueling at night as it is a B***h to find the tanker sometimes on a moonless night and is very easy to get disoriented (so let's just assume it is a clear day for this example). But, yes, JHMCS on and boresight mode - and then there is the regular mode and long range mode. You will see in regular mode your range will go out to 5 or 10 miles on the radar screen but when in long range mode the radar will show it is looking out 40 miles. So, the sensor control switch up in a short press will send your radar in to boresight mode for the short range and a long press will put the radar in to long range boresight mode. Boresight mode is actually now slewing around wherever you look within the range of the seeker head/radar. This works fantastic for the AIM9X which is made for high angle off acquisition and engagement. This is exactly what I meant in my previous post. An AIM9X can literally come off the rail and make super drastic changes up, down, left or right to it's flight path so a little practice to get the feel and you will be making kills like you have only imagined (up to 80 degrees off the boresight of the actual aircraft). The AIM120 can be aimed using this as well, however, it is not as capable in the very short range regime as the AIM9X so use that missile for when they are a little further away. In the 2V2 example mentioned prior, I would use boresight mode long range on the JHMCS with a 120 for the first bandit and then I would be thinking/evaluating whether the second shot at the bandit wingman should be an AIM120 or an AIM9 depending on where they are and where I am. Again there are some other subtle things that may or may not be relevant in terms of using the radar, uncaging, weapon types that can all play in to any given scenario so we are just keeping relatively basic for initial learning of the concepts behind what we are doing and achieving our desired outcome but I hope this starts to get your ball rolling in the right direction. Nothing is more satisfying then getting some competence and confidence that you can take care of business in air to air engagements.
  17. As far as keeping track of your wingman having your data link on and having access to your SA page will help. This sounds like 2 v 2. As I am sure you have heard lose sight lose the fight, but initially we are talking BVR prior to the merge so in this case lose SA lose the fight. Assume JHMCS on. I will use RWS/TWS outside 40 but once I get inside 40 I am prone to switch to boresight radar mode, and then in to long range mode which goes out to 40. As an aside, remember higher and faster you are further you potentially can reach out and touch someone. However, I will fire (again lets assume AIM120) when I have a good solution but I will keep scanning between the two bandits. I want to keep my eye on where that wingman is going to go but also touch base on if my missile is going to be successful. Getting efficient at unlocking and reacquiring the next bandit is key to success. There are many potential situations and ways to resolve the task at hand but this is one way I like. Now.... In order to facilitate your own situational awareness while you are getting the hang of BFM/ACM there is no shame in having labels on to be better able to see what's what. Once you get yourself "trained" up on maintaining SA turn them off. Now go forth and kick some ass!
  18. As far as 2 - I find the F18 loses lock off and on so you need to keep on top of that. If your attack radar is not showing a mark for where the enemy aircraft is it could be several things but quick food for thought (1) Interpreting the attack radar requires a little getting used and 2) The radar is not from the ground to infinite altitude and 180 degrees width. It is like a cone and the plane is at the smallest part of that cone. The further away from you it goes the cone gets higher and wider. This means that as an airplane gets closer it is possible for them to be outside the area the radar beam is actually scanning depending on your altitude and theirs. When looking at the attack radar, specifically the cursor, there will be two numbers above and below it and these will represent the bottom and upper altitude (in thousands of feet) the radar is scanning. You might need to slew the radar. Hope this helps get you on the right track. Good luck and happy flying!
  19. Yes. I think FC3 is a great deal and the low fidelity planes work right alongside the high fidelity planes no problem. Enjoy and happy flying!
  20. I am 56 so we are in the same age range. I have a warthog. I also have the p51, A10 (all versions) and a host of others. The warthog throttle(s) need to be assigned in the axis commands (thrust, left thrust, right thrust). In ww2 planes I use one throttle for the manifold pressure and one for the gas. On choppers I use one for the collective (reversed) and one for the gas. I have also found that any controllers need to be really looked at in the settings as DCS and many of the other devices I use initially are cross assigned. Meaning if I look at the rudder or say one of my MFD's there will be thrust and roll assignments all over. These need to be cleared up so everything only works with what you want them to be assigned to. Ya, this is kind of a pain in the butt but you will get the idea quick when you look for it and if you add anything new to your setup you will know to check for this before you do anything else. Good luck and happy flying. It is well worth the work to get setup, brother.
  21. One of two things could be happening. 1) Ask the ground crew to launch you. If they do not then it is most likely: 2) There is an AI plane doing the final circuit to come in and land. They need to have landed OR got the go around before the deck crew gets you back in the cat for launch. I hope this helps! Good luck and happy flying!
  22. Right on! I have changed my bindings a bit as well so that's why I said F-whatever - lol. That was what probably triggered the idea of what was going on. I am really looking forward to the super carrier getting all it's functionality. Rock on, brother!
  23. First you need to hit the F-whatever key to be looking at the carrier in external view. Then, at this time, you can hit the LALT-F9 to view the LSO station. To the best of my knowledge nothing is working at this time in early release, but I believe the long term plan is to add some functionality. Also, eventually the elevators to the lower hangar deck, the plane boss station up in the tower and the aircrew briefing rooms will accessible. I hope this helps point you in the right direction. Good luck and happy flying.
  24. Short answer. No. The article that seemed to come out this week that has everyone abuzz is a bunch of old BS brought in to an article with an agenda. Any investigation with what is really going on with the F35 shows a whole other story. For example, check out 'Jello' Aiello's fighter pilot podcast and listen to the F35 episode(s).
  25. Ensure that it is plugged in to a USB 3.0 port on it's own and not through a hub. Problems may occur in low power conditions. I heard it from a friend Good luck and happy flying!
