  1. IPD, to my understanding is Interpupillary Distance - I have mine set to the number given to me by my optometrist on my last check-up. I think it is set to 66. I use a Rift-S.
  2. This was actually fun to fly and was very, very well done. I am looking forward to how this project evolves and using the C-130 in more missions. Adds a nice variety. It made me wish I could have some F-18's refuel - Chicks in tow! :-)

    Members age?

I am 55. Happy birthday, Quadg! :pilotfly:
  4. Game changer. First time it has ever worked for me and it was goooooooooood :-)
  5. As food for thought, if you have a HOTAS with dual engine throttle input(s) (ie: al la Warthog) then you can split the throttle, reverse the axis and use one as the throttle and one as a collective. (This works ok for me). Helicopters give a whole new perspective to the game that is very exciting and enjoyable. Happy flying!
  6. I would like to report a hijacking. The OP is about who can reliably refuel one of the modules/aircraft. :-) Where why how when what is their psychological make-up does not pertain. Digressing in to arguments over opinions makes no sense as opinions are opinions and not facts. Can you refuel air to air is a fact. Have fun playing the game any way you like, we create our own reality. Happy flying.
  7. I play mostly single player and occasional multiplayer with 2 or 3 friends on some custom missions and campaigns we have designed, some of which require air-to-air refueling. I am able to refuel the F-18 and F-16 day or night, moon, no moon under the correct conditions (being considerations for speed and altitude the event occurs at).
  8. I noticed since the latest update when flying on the Syria map in an F-18 at night that the lights of the cities are very very bright in the mirrors and not as bright when looking out the cockpit directly at the cities. It seems like some little tweaks here and there will be expected as everything gets polished. Loving the map and really appreciate the effort of ALL the developers all around. They give me hours of fun and enjoyment and I cannot thank you enough. Happy flying, y'all :-)
  9. Perhaps the CANCEL button cancels the updater/launcher checking for an update and is not intended to stop the application launch process itself when half way through. As to the Warthog I have one and have not encountered any issues other than often multiple controllers (throttle, stick, MFD, and rudders) get crossed and need to be cleaned up a bit when you add a device or go to a new module. Happy flying!
  10. Muas - I wish it worked as it should as well. Nowhere do I say or imply that it is non-essential. Simply, I have never seen it. I will be happy when I do as I am sure it will facilitate the process in a meaningful way. Do it as the real aircraft would. I have refueled the F-18 from every tanker in the game and have yet to see a probe light working much to my chagrin. Hopefully it will be on the list of things tightened up as we go. Sorry for any miscommunication and happy flying!
  11. I am always baffled by the posts that show a picture where a light from the refueling probe is so bright because I have never experienced any lights from any probes refueling an F-18 at night from ANY tanker in the game. Oozler is bamboozled :-p
  12. I have done many refuels at night in full moon, no moon, all external lights on and otherwise and I have never experienced the probe light having any effect on helping to locate and track the drogue.
  13. I use the rift S in my simpit when I play DCS and I use the hand controllers for various different things as well. I have found that if I put the hand controllers down on my lap (or I suppose any surface applies) that I needed to build the discipline to put them down with the palm button facing upwards. Especially on my lap, when I moved my legs a little it would often be enough to depress the button and trigger the controller in to an active state - frequently inadvertently grabbing the virtual flight stick and aileron rolling my aircraft unexpectedly at the worst time. lol Perhaps this might help you manage while you find what works best for you. Good luck and happy flying!
  14. I have a Rift S and I use a mod for the hands that makes them look like the green gloves pilots wear as opposed to black hands. Then when I am flying with the pilot body on and I lay the controllers in my lap (for example I frequently fly the F-18 ) then the gloves blend so well I barely notice them. Not a solution but sometimes work around's can provide some relief while looking for better answers. Good luck and happy flying!
  15. Purchased and when the time comes I look forward to flying the friendly skies over Syria :-) The videos look great so far, and though I am primarily a fast-jet player, it looks like it will be tons of fun with the choppers too!
  16. I have found ensuring we have set the flaps properly right from the get go always prevents this from happening... However, It is good to know a work around in flight for when I experience a little lack of awareness and get careless while taking off from the carrier. When I have tried taking off with the flaps in an incorrect setting then once in the air and the gear is raised the aircraft might pitch up strongly, seem somewhat unresponsive to trim adjustment, have an auto-trim setting that shows the stabs making the aircraft pitch up and it doesn't want to seem to reset the flaps. I found that slowing right down, lowering the gear and putting the flaps in the take off position then raising the gear and putting the flaps up before gaining speed will re-trim the aircraft via the FCS. This allows to get control of the aircraft without having to restart. I am sure some more capable people will help with more of the technical voodoo. Hope this helps a little. Good luck and happy flying!
  17. At risk of stating the obvious or something too simple, I have found in my experience with AAR that the altitude of the tanker and it's speed can have a huge effect on the experience and difficulty or ease of the task at hand. Ensure you are not pushing an envelop that would make it challenging no matter ones skill set to give yourself the best chance of success. Good luck and happy flying!
  18. If you are talking AI aircraft I believe you might need to 'link unit' to the carrier's 'unit name' in the mission editor. If you are talking your aircraft placing it on the deck, define it as a client aircraft in the skill level and select 'take off from parking hot' (if you want to taxi to ramp but not have to go through the startup procedure(s).) I hope this helps and good luck! Happy flying!
  19. I have found that the logbook is updated with single player missions, but not multiplayer or, I think, training missions. Perhaps this is what you are experiencing. Happy flying!

    Thank you ed.

I am a relatively older guy so I recall a time prior to any computers or video games. I started playing flight sims with games like Red Baron and Aces Over Europe/Pacific and evolved through a bunch of the other ones as they came out(Janes etc). I say this to put a reference to my opinion(s). I am amazed every time I fire up DCS and get in the cockpit of any of the planes. The way the game looks, the modelling of the planes in flight, blowing stuff up... The new super carrier? Are you kidding me? Awesome... The crew at ED and their 3rd party developers are doing a good job and I am grateful every time I get to play DCS. Now with VR and a home made cockpit and super duper computer/controllers I am making my gaming dreams come true... And it is thanks to the hard work and dedication of ED and the DCS team. Thank you for giving me joy and pleasure every time I play your wonderful game. I look forward to many many MANY more hours of fun and enjoyment.
  21. I have the TM Warthog HOTAS, rudder pedals and two of the cougar MFDs and the axis controls were cross bound on literally everything and needed to be cleared up on each device in the DCS controls setup. Give a good look in to the controls setup as suggested and I think you will find success. There is some solid advice (ie: Feefifofum) on how to clean the settings up. I am confident you will love the HOTAS once you are configured so good luck and happy flying! PS: Remember you will have to do this for each aircraft/module you wish to play.
  22. t1mb0b: Spread some love - why rag a guy out who says he finds A2A hard when almost everyone who plays DCS acknowledges it is one of the hardest things to do in the game? The OP does not request or suggest that ED makes A2A easier or anything, they simply ask if anyone uses the built in things in the game already when they do A2A.... Give him some help. Acknowledge that they are simply at the start of a fun learning curve. Offer some constructive guidance.... OR say nothing.... To give them grief serves no purpose other then to be selfish and spread negativity. I get it - these are stressful times. Rex - Keep at it. It is very rewarding when you get it down and will give you plenty of confidence later in the game to do many things. There are plenty of videos online to show you the 'ins and outs' so check some of those out. It gets better with practice so keep at it and you will feel the satisfaction once you learn how. Happy flying friend. Good luck.
  23. Everyone in video's and comments will say to fly in formation reference with the tanker. But let me provide an alternative way of thinking that might help in this case. Focus on the drogue until you have made contact. Then, switch focus to a place of your choosing (I choose a place through the drogue or on the actual wing-mount for the drogue system and I fly formation with that). I find the two most challenging elements for new pilots is controlling approach speed to the drogue so you don't overrun while, conversely losing forward momentum just shy of the drogue which can quickly lead to PIO (pilot induced oscillation) and an unsteady aircraft. I have faith - it is 90 percent nerves. Less is more.
  24. In my experience it seems that at 0.7 nautical miles it is up to the pilot (the player) to use the key command to call the ball. Then the LSO acknowledges and completes the landing calls.
