  1. Uninstall your videocard drivers and then use a driver cleaning program. Re-install the drivers then install the latest version of DirectX. Look for the November Redist. file. See if that works. Hope this helps!
  2. I think what he means is the smoke effect continues to come out of the muzzle even after the gun has ceased firing. I would have to agree with the OP, the smoke effect needs to end more abruptly. I noticed this issue in Lock-On as well.
  3. I bought a 3007WFP-HC. Supposedly, it is superior to the 3008 model with regards to input lag and whatnot (according to the folks over at [H]). We'll see. I can't wait for it to show up. I think I might pick up dual GTX 280's from EVGA and then trade them up for 285's in a few months.
  4. Actually, it is 216 stream processors vs 192 stream processors. Performance wise, there is not a lot of difference between the 192 and the 216.
  5. No issues on my i7 at all here when changing the affinity to all cores.
  6. Shouldn't be an issue to run BS with a GTX 260. BS seems more CPU dependant than GPU dependant so you should be ok. Heck, with the prices of GTX 260's right now, you could buy one and wait a few weeks and put another in there for a darn good SLI setup. Come to think of it, 2 GTX 260's is cheaper than a 4870X2 and has better driver support.
  7. 1. Alt-tab out of Black Shark. 2. Open Task Manager. 3. Right-click DCS.exe in "Processes". 4. Select "Affinity". 5. Select all the cores (check the boxes) and press "Ok" or "Apply". 6. Close Task Manager. 7. Jump back into Black Shark. 8. Enjoy higher performance (with Vista). 9. Throw a BBQ party in JG27_Arklight's favor. **10. Donate money to JG27_Arklight. ** This should be done before and after each step. :)
  8. The mod teams out there have done a real number with Falcon in recent years, that's for sure. I remember when Falcon was first released, shortly after the North beat the South, and it completely blew. Open Falcon is a great sim, but the poor (in comparison) visuals sort of ruin the immersion for me. I can have all the button pushing in the world, but if I don't feel like I'm in a fight than it just isn't the same. Both sims have their place though. There is quite a bit of diversity between both products and each appeals to their respective fans. One man's poison is another man's wine. On a side note, If I may be so eloquent, I still think the FM in Falcon blows goats. It feels a little too, I don't really know how to explain it...maybe, "linear" or "on rails".
  9. If you are looking for a 30 inch LCD but the cost has always made you tremble (or in my case cry), the Dell Outlet is running an AMAZING deal on their 3007WFP-HC LCD's. $749.99 with a 3yr warranty AND free shipping. These LCDs are refurbished but come with Dell's return within, I think, 21 days (or longer) return policy as well as their 3yr Warranty with Advanced service AND FREE 3-5 day shipping. These LCD's currently retail for $1,399.99....so you get a REALLY nice discount. I ordered one. I have always wanted a 30 inch LCD and at $650 off I just could not resist. I am in the process of looking at a new videocard, but with what I just saved on this monitor it sure cushions the blow!
  10. Just ordered a Dell 3007WFP-HC. *Waits for wife to kill him* :D
  11. You don't get better performance in BS because you don't want to use Vista, so you want ED to lower the performance for Vista users? Umm, no.
  12. Wow! Great work, Mizzy. That last pic on the right gave me special feelings in mah' pants.
  13. What joystick do you have and does it have software with it to set up profiles?
  14. Best Buy is running a sale this week on the LG L227WTG-PF for $249.99. It is 22' but is supposed to be a phenomanal (sp?) panel. I was looking at 24 inch models but I might have to try this LG out. Best Buy's LCD return policy is so stupendously awesome I may jump on this deal.
  15. I am considering moving to a 22', 24' or 30' LCD (yeah, I know, a big difference between all of them) and was wondering what everybody was using. I currently use a 21 inch NEC CRT that is just GREAT, but, the lure of a larger screen at higher resolution than 1600x1200 (I guess the 22' inch would be higher resolution) is too great. hehe I'm thinking of going with a 30' and slapping a few 4870X2's or dual GTX 280's in there, but if I could get away with a solid performing 24' than I would be quite pleased. So, when you all are playin', what the heck are you lookin' at!?!?! :)
  16. For i7 users (and users of the Intel Northwood and other processors with Hyperthreading), you might want to try disabling Hyperthreading. Some people have reported increased performance in games with this feature off. You more than likely will not see a benefit playing games with it on. Now, if you are into heavy encoding or other things like that than HT might be best left on. If not, you may want to try your system with it off. I do remember disabling it when I had my Intel 2.4C though when I was playing a lot of MS Flight Simulator. I will report back my findings.
  17. Hello all, It appears that in recent times there has been quite an influx of new widescreen LCDs utilizing the native resolution of 1920x1080. I noticed Black Shark supports this resolution, I had no idea! Does anybody here have one of these new monitors with this native resolution? How do you like it? Thanks!
  18. Ain't that the freakin' truth.
  19. I believe the ASUS Rampage Formula supports SLI and it is also a pretty highly regarded board. The ASUS Striker II Extreme is not really one of the best LGA 775 mobos on the market. It also utilizes DDR3 RAM, IIRC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16813131274 On Newegg, 44 out of 97 ratings for the ASUS Striker II Extreme rate it at 3 out of 5 stars or lower, 30 of those being 2 stars and lower. It is also quite expensive (about $40 or so more than an ASUS Rampage Formula). The Striker II Extreme is currently $329.99 at Newegg. The 790i chipset is, IMO, overpriced.
  20. I am not sure if Black Shark will land (haha) in the same stores as LOMAC, but Best Buy, Circuit City, EB Games/Gamestop, and Walmart were all selling Lock-On and Lock-On Gold. As far as online retailers go in the U.S., my first choice is Gogamer.com. Great customer service, fast shipping, and good prices.
  21. Vista has better memory management than XP, and in my expereince, is a better OS overall. Did I read the above correctly (I can't access SimHQ from work)? They didn't include these extra missions because of memory handling in Vista? How do they figure? This extra campaign utilizes more than 6 or 12 GB or more of RAM on a 64-bit machine........How is that? Blaming the OS. lol
  22. I'd like it close out this thread by sharing how much I really do like chicken pot pies. That is all.
  23. You don't "have" to buy the English version, just like you didn't "have" to buy the Russian version. There is no reason for them to release a patch to make the Russian version into the English version. It's a free market, you choose what you buy. You bought the Russian and didn't wait for the English version. Complaining about the recession is a little silly when you are stating you can't afford videogames. lol Just save up and buy it when the English DVD version comes out. :)
