  1. You can still call Cheney Dick though. To answer the topic though: there is nothing in DCS currently that would be too unrealistic to pit it against.
  2. Sure, attach the track and I will take a look. Also found this thread, a guy in there says that you need to restart DCS after saving the track, then you can switch. TBH I havent used external views in tracks since ages, because the tracks we watch, we watch specifically to see what the submitting player was seeing.
  3. Check this post, bud. Make sure your normal default options have external views enabled as well. Specifically when having "use this options in all missions" selected, your normal settings trump the mission settings. The linked comment also explains how to enable external views in a track, when they have been disabled in the mission itself.
  4. F10 view options, means map only. You need to either also select "all" or "own ac", etc to enable F2 view. (In your mission options.) For beginning ticking all is probably best. Hope that helps.
  5. Welcome to the flock, bud! We all started as newbies, and I hope you find the answers to the questions you seek. It is always a tremendous pleasure to see new folks around - we call them nuggets, because they're absolute gold to this community.
  6. Yeah, and as mentioned above, it is not really something you do in the Tomcat. If you watch the first video, you can see the nose comes down really fast in comparison to other, lighter jets, say like an F-16. You land on speed, and you let the nose come down, then pull aft stick to add the stabs for your braking. You wouldn't try to maintain the nose up high.
  7. You are not supposed to flare in the F-14. Ever. Has little to do with suspension. You also can aerobrake in the F-14, but you don't really do that either, you use full aft stick, you can use lateral stick steering and ofc you use rudders and then brakes once you engage NWS. The landing physics of the Tomcat are as should be. The ground handling and suspension issues in the F-14 relate primarily to ground friction when rolling off of a standstill. They are a compromise between too much friction and sliding around on the carrier deck. What is shown in the video above you can do already, if you land on speed. Which is how you are supposed to land the Tomcat 10 out of 10.
  8. My suggestion at this point is to simply take a step back, take a breath, calm a bit, then come back with an open mind. When one's tumbling while standing, the easiest way to catch yourself is to realize you are not falling at all. We all start somewhere. We all get somewhere. Some further, some less, some go different places. But no one starts at the finish. If you are indeed still learning the internet, to take the sarcasm at face value, the best way to learn it is to drop the sarcasm and realize that you arrived at a place where ppl mean genuinely well towards you. It is impossible to know at a glance in such a complex subject what is all true and what isn't. Time will teach you that. Now is a good time though to get to know the folks around you, who have been at it for much longer and who have the kind of knowledge you seek. If your questions and interest are genuine, I can assure you, so will be their answers. But if you dance around their noses, don't be surprised if they wave you off like a fly that tickles their itch. Talent is in the choice, dear friend, so my kind suggestion is to channel your curiosity in the right questions that have sincerety behind them. You will be surprised what this community will offer you in return if you give it a chance. Welcome to the club.
  9. It wasn't an oversight that we modeled the fuselage with the pylons or because we are too stupid to have foresight, lol. It was more practical, looked better and there was no necessity due to the fact that outside of the rare occasion it simply wasn't a thing IRL. The drag penalty is utterly negligable, and if you think you are losing dogfights because of fuel pylons, let me break it to you: you are not. As a matter of fact, IRL Tomcats did not even drop their tanks, because you would fly pretty much without tanks for the rest of your cruise, as there were little to no replacements. And if you think that what you call high performance BFM beats what real pilots do irl, you need a reality check of the other kind, sorry to put it that bluntly. Particularly I suggest to look up Dunning Kruger in that case. And if you want to pretend that you are even remotely close to them, at the very least fight your high performance BFM with tanks on, and no flaps or other mumbojumbo shenanigans. In hindsight, which is always 20/20, we should have made them removable and made it solely to accommodate the IRIAF version, which at the time of modeling the Tomcat was not planned at all, not even an afterthought. It was the community who asked for it, and we obliged happily, with the caveat that the fuel pylons are not removable. Until we are willing to re-do a massive part or almost the entire fuselage, so that a handful of guys can be happy vs the majority that simply does not care, with months of manhours going into it, you will, pardon my English, simply have to deal with it. Forgive me if I sound abit harsh, but usually I would not respond to stuff like "wanting to kill yourself" at all. We're really happy to talk on eye level with everyone, but you gotta come down a notch for it please.
  10. Unfortunately not yet. We're currently stuck at reproducing the issue, but we're continuing to investigate. ATM we're not even sure if it is indeed F-14 or somehow DCS related, we need to find a way to reproduce it first. It is also very impractical that it happens for most that far into a mission for that matter.
  11. He will default to cruise speed upon switching, so if first thing you do is command him the speed you desire, he will light the cans and you shouldnt lose much of your gained speed.
  12. Hope this helps. Please read the video description, which contains a few corrections for a few mistakes I made, it was a quick, one-take recording.
  13. We do plan on adding better vapor effects, etc on our modules in time, however lots of other stuff needs to be done before that.
  14. To quote Goose: I hate it when he does that. In other words, I have automatic switching disabled. When I go for any aim7 shot within 40nm (I rarely fire outside of 15 keep in mind), I always have him lock, then switch to PSTT immediately. PSTT within 40 is pretty rock solid, I haven't had a guy shake that lock on me yet. That said, it is not really Jester's fault for losing the lock in transition, but a limitation of the AWG-9 under certain circumstances. SARH shots usually involve lots of maneuvering, so as @near_blind mentioned above: if your maneuvering is unfavorable, or the bandit's aspect, or any of that sorts, Jester currently has no way of telling that the situation indeed is unfavorable. He just switches at a certain range. So you helping him understand when to switch, aka actively commanding him to switch, is helping yourself. In the course of Jester overhaul this is certainly an item we will revisit, as right now it is too rudimentary and dull imo. I think we can make him more clever in this regard. For the time being I second that disabling the option to have him switch automatically is indeed preferable. In fact, on a second thought I am thinking now that we should remove this option until the Jester overhaul altogether, seeing how it is the prime source of players being under the impression that "Jester constantly loses lock."
  15. You absolutely do not, to the contrary. No worries at all.
  16. We haven't fully decided on the BuNo yet, it is possible it will be random rather, feasibility will have the last word in this case I would carefully suggest.
  17. With a big caveat: if all things go well within the next two patches. It is a bit unpredictable atm, as we are trying to tie up many lose ends and thus it is an extremely busy time, working on several things at the same time. But pilot body has one of the higher priorities currently, we know how much you guys have been waiting for it.
  18. if you have a short track that will surely help, thank you. Please remember to not use the Jester menu in the track. It also helps to engage ATT hold within 10 seconds of mission start, in order to prevent desync cause by inputs. Thanks a ton! And yes, ofc, if there is an inaccuracy, we intend on fixing it.
  19. Unfortunately not, we did not participate in the hotfix.
  20. We are, in fact @Super Grover acquired a FFB stick so we can finally test FFB issues on our own and debug the issues properly. Our apologies for all the incoveniences, but it is quite the rabbit hole we have to go through to get everything working. Thank you for your tremendous and kind patience with us @Shadok. It is much appreciated.
  21. We'll take a look if we can do something about it.
  22. EDIT: In the meantime we have a public discord. Either follow this thread: or join directly here: https://discord.gg/heatblur-simulations Thank you all for joining our Discord.
  23. No, we haven't found anything on our side so far, and are not even sure if this is really F-14 related. There are reports of this also happening in the F-18. Our hunch is that it is maybe F-14 AI related, but we were unable to even reproduce it so far. For instance I never had, nor seen that myself. We are continuing to investigate though.
