  1. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the difference is knowing when to express it. The obvious example is Stormin's thread expressing his good wishes to the UK after the terrorist bombings. Do you honestly think it was appropriate for =Achilles= to post what he did knowing the bad feeling it would generate? for the sake of one person's ill conceived reply the thread was locked so the majority were punished for the minorities actions.
  2. From this UK citizen, thank you for you're kind words Stormin. I certainly hope the moderators will take the appropriate action to stop this thread being derailed.
  3. I was sceptical about installing drivers that came with a demo and not WHQL certified but gave them a try and WOW! it runs smoother than ever on my BFG 6800 Ultra OC
  4. Simware posted my CD out the day after they received their batch from ED the CD turned up the day after they told me they had sent it so I'm happy with the service I received from them.
  5. It was quite a long time before the CD check was taken from the UT games and how old are Ground Control and GTA2? many many years old. Lock On was only released on CD last week and the download only a month or so before in limited numbers due to the paypal problems. It's too early for ED to give the casual software pirate an easy ride. Maybe when the next add-on is released a copy protection removal util could be released but until then I support ED's right to do whatever they can to protect their intellectual property.
  6. Suncom went through years ago, they had some nice looking sticks too they were just hard to get hold of in the UK when I was looking to buy a new stick and throttle years ago. Just one word of warning if they used the same kind of system that CH and TM used on their gameport sticks i.e a gameport plug and a pass through keyboard connector be careful if you use WinXP and MS in their infinite wisdom put a stop to that capability as they apparently saw it as a security hole (yeah that's right and they missed hundreds of others :icon_roll ) so if you use WinXP then you might not be able to program it or get drivers working unless it will operate as a standard DirectX compatible joystick. If I were to buy a new stick it would be a USB one.
  7. I might pick it up, I'll wait for a few reviews first. It will perhaps be good for the Falcon community as it may unite the various groups of players using one install version. If it's complex avionics you want then Falcon has it by the bucket load but I'm a low level mud moving fan and down low Falcon just does'nt compare to Lock On which is even more fun with the SU25T. I also have a better feeling of flight, inertia and weight flying planes in Lock On v1.1 than I do in Falcon, even with the mods it's like flying on rails.
  8. A happy user here since the original TrackIR, since upgraded to the TrackIR 2 and now the TrackIR 3 Pro with Vector Expansion.
  9. Maybe he bought a TrackIR? :D no substitute for the real thing
  10. When I upgraded last August I went back to nVidia after using an ATi 9800 Pro for a few years, I'm happy with the 6800 Ultra OC I have now.
  11. No problem, glad to help
  12. So does that mean my download version will become a collector's item? :D Shall we start the bidding at say ooh errr $50,000 :D
  13. Been thinking along the same lines myself although with the registry backup util I may hold off a little longer, just burnt my download version onto a DVD and put it in a case with my original Lock On disc.
  14. Why on earth should ED send you a CD so you have essentially two copies for the price of one? you'd still have the download and you're activations and a CD, how is that then fair to the CD purchasers? It would mean more work for them contacting Starforce to disable you're existing download code from their systems. Just for the record I have the download version, I'm glad that ED gave us more activations but maybe it would have been better if I'd waited for the CD version and no activation problem but that was my choice and ED did'nt force me to do anything. I'll just put it down to experience, youthful exuberence and wanting the sweet sweet candy ASAP :D I may still buy a CD version but again that will be my choice.
  15. It will...it will ;)
  16. If you use the CH Control Manager software it's pretty easy to assign brakes to the toe brakes on your pedals despite Lock On not allowing analogue input. You can map the key commands to the pedals by using a little .cms script like this or a more simple approach like this. Personally I prefer the script approach as I've already used .cms to map the HUD designator commands to the ministick, using .cms means you have a little more control as to how far you need to push the pedal before the brake command is given.
  17. LOL yeah that's all I watched the Krypton Factor for :) to think how far sims have come.
  18. I hope the policy will change, I'm very happy with the product, just a little dissapointed with the draconian 5 activation limit and think this will hurt sales which is bad for you and bad for us users who hope to see future products.
  19. Thats the trouble, those who are happy rarely post as they are enjoying playing while those who have problems will come to complain while others who just hang around these forums with an axe to grind will just latch on to the negativity just to cause mischeif. I had no problems with payment or download, I followed the instructions to install over a fresh copy of Lock On and it went very smoothly. My only concern are reports of a change in the way re-installs are deducted from your activation quota even if you have not changed any hardware. As it stands though Lock On runs just fine from me and I hope ED can make enough money from this to provide future add-ons to further enhance this flight sim.
  20. I'm running an Athlon64 and Lock On works just fine for me running Win XP Pro which is commercially available. Win64 is not commercially available and even vendors such as ATi and nVidia struggled to provide stable drivers until recent months. There are many thousands of happy SHIII players, myself included who have had no problems with Starforce to date.
  21. Older games such as Janes F18 are still playable as they are games you can set them up to run in compatibility mode where as Starforce is a copy protection system that as part of it's function detects the OS you are running. WinXP64 is still not commercially available and with Microsoft's track record at changing things at the last minute why would Starforce waste their own resources writing in code to support such an OS that is not commercially available and subject to change when a small minority of gamers will be using it at this time? The forum search on the Ubi forums has been broken for a long time so I'd suggest putting the tin foil hat away as you won't be needing it just yet ;)
  22. If you read any EULA closely (yeah I know who does?) you will find that they all just give you the right to use and you don't own them. As an example I picked Call of Duty off of my software collection shelf as it's a different genre and different publisher to ED or Ubi and at the back of the manual it lists the agreement that is also displayed when you install the game: "Activision grants you the non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one copy of this Program solely and exclusively for your personal use. All rightsnot specifically granted under this Agreement are reserved by Activision. This Program is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in this Program and should not be construed as a sale of any rights in this Program." This is a standard EULA so you're really just renting any game you have.
  23. AC3D apparently supports the 3ds format. I know a bunch of guys use it for creating planes for Targetware.
  24. Damn! I was looking forward to coming home from a bad day at work to buy this, ah well if it's next monday we get it then so be it as I'm on holiday for the rest of this week and next :D
  25. Yeah where's the moderators when you need em! :)
