  1. Yep, it is literally just a triangle shaped imprint.
  2. Because it is too much stress for the airframe and it only would be used in an emergency situation like to prevent smashing into the ground. Also the plane captain would kill you.
  3. His hand is exactly where the switch is and it it is just a little lift up. You can see it.
  4. TDC depress, not WPDSG it was with the Lightening. This is still buggy. Switching the pod back to standby and turn it on again will fix this for now. Search Wags channel for everything ATFLIR related.
  5. Just .. apply .. the hotfix..
  6. It is the seat height adjustment.
  7. That might be the matter. Do that and then judge again. They stated that it will be part of the next official update.
  8. Yeah sorry, misunderstood that. Thought about the startup sound.
  9. There you go .. this is left engine with canopy closed. Earlier in the vid there is a spool up sound with canopy open. Closed the howl on startup is not the most present for sure. Of course this video is by nature not an in helmet sound. For me it is fine like it is now after the hotfix. I guess OP ran it without the hotfix?
  10. Have a look at this. You also will find a hotfix there.
  11. Well the sound that brought me and some others headaches is gone now with the fix. I described it as a rumble or grumble in a loop that wasn't related to the air over canopy flow rather than the bleed air somehow. With the fix I also can hear the Afterburner again Well I am not very familiar with spectrum analysis other than some stuff with audacity just for fun. So the only I can see is that left is more yellow and right is more orange at the bottom I would not blame ED for this. It can happen It was just the first time it brought up some unhealthy issues. That was unlucky. @btd does always a good job with the sounds imo and is very reliable here on the forums. Identified the problem and provided a quick out of order fix. I do not want to flatter too much, but other devs on other games/sims don't do that in my experience.
  12. Well things got a bit confusing here sorry So lets just rewind this. You wanna just extract the the zip. Then you have a file called "Sound". Now you put that file into your Saved games folder for the open beta wherever it is located on your machine. Then the "Sound" file shows up there like in my attached pic. I am on stand alone though cause I like to keep things away from steam as much as possible. But I believe steam is not very different aside from maybe something like "steam" within the path.
  13. Do you have stable and open beta installed? Cause your path says DCS and not open beta.. so you may installed it on stable, or is this a typo here on your side?
  14. C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Sounds\sdef\Aircrafts\FA-18\Cockpit → the two files "F404GE_Amb_In" & "F404GE_ThrustNoiseLoop_In"
  15. Yeah sure I believe you. And luckily we have that extra slider. But I cannot believe that a sound update is supposed to be that many have to adjust that slider only for not having headaches or simply not being annoyed. I put it down to 80%, another one I flew with to even 50% for not getting his brain melted Fine now for me, back to 100%. Lets see. Sure I still do that, especially at BFM.
  16. Yeah right, I always have "Hear like in helmet" enabled too. Well I dunno tbh. I am just an armchair pilot like the most here so I just can guess. But yes in the video I linked in my original post the sound what I call the Hornets "hoover" (vacuum cleaner) sound is dominant but also air over canopy. Of course all these vids are not "in helmet" sound. There would be a second example, for sure of course also "out of helmet", but here again for me the air over canopy is dominant. Would be nice to have an IRL Hornet driver to vote on what sound is the dominant sound "In Helmet". Two would come to my mind, but I don't like to call them out here.
  17. Yes it is. But at least for me now it is definitely just an "air over canopy" sound and not that weird loop that somehow came from the engines before the fix. In my opinion that was the problem and it is gone after the fix. As I said in my original post, sound is of course quite a personal opinion and feeling. Also quite difficult to describe sometimes. Some hear a growl, some a rumble, some would describe it as something totally different. Realistic sounds, yes please. And a cockpit is a loud place to work at for sure. But not when it provokes headaches when flying in a sim or that it forces you to change volume settings by a good amount to stand it. Anyways, I am happy now. Hopefully you guys too
  18. So after a test flight I would say that hotfix fixed all my issues at least. I can run my In-Cockpit volume back at 100% without getting headaches. Thank you very much for listening and providing this fix
  19. Will test the fix, but it is not about the airflow where people getting headaches from. The loop comes to life when starting up the engines on the ground.
  20. All for realism too, but not to a degree where it gives you real problems to stand it. Yes indeed. Was flying with several others last night and they reported the same. Several also got headaches. One put In-Cockpit volume down even to 50% to just be able to fly. Really hoping this will get reworked. And hopefully very soon.
  21. Hello everyone. In the latest DCS 2.7.4.9632 Open Beta update there is a line to the Hornet updates that says "Air flow over canopy sound has been improved." It is hard to describe, because sound is one of the things that by nature are pretty much a personal opinion and feeling. So this is only my feeling and opinion about it. So for me at least this new sound update is kinda a bit over the top. I have the feeling that not only the air flow over canopy is just louder, it is also the in cockpit air flow sound coming from bleed air that has been toned up and changed totally. Difficult to describe, but now there is a pervading growl or rumble that is problematic to me. The first time after the update it gave me actually some headaches. To me it is like the sound is piercing into my head. Its frequency and interval. Then I thought I just might had a bad day, so I tested it the other day too. But is was the same. I do not know if it is realistic, but at least from all the, yeah really hundreds of in cockpit Hornet vids I saw (many with good sound quality), I've never noticed that particular growling or rumbling sound. I do not have an in game video but here is a IRL video example: -- Example -- And the now introduced sound is also present when idling on the deck or ashore. So it is definitely not only the air flow over canopy sound that was tweaked. The vacuum cleaner like in cockpit sound of the Hornet was never a problem for me, but this is now something different. My sound settings always were: Hear like in helmet, NO "Loud Cockpit Afterburner Sound" (so unticked), 80% Volume, 100% World, 100% In-Cockpit, 100% Helmet, 100% Switches. Now I was in the need to bring the In-Cockpit slider down to at least 80% to make it "acceptable" for me without getting headaches after an hour or more. But still there is this rumbling and its frequency that is just too much. And that is not really a solution because it tones down all cockpit sounds. And for me at least the sound is very important, to be able to hear what the jet does. So it also affects other sounds. I still can hear the engines but it is like the need to "hear through" the "growl" to notice them. Also before the update I had no problem to hear if I am in AB (as said above no "Loud Cockpit Afterburner Sound"). Now I can barely rely on the sound if I am in burner or not. The constant "growl" I am talking about is actually a bit similar to the pre-update (and surely still present) sound of the Afterburner. Additionally before the update after the fire test, when rotating the bleed air knob, it was very good to hear the air coming through the now opening valves. Not anymore now. When engines are shut down and canopy closed I now still can hear a much quieter but still changed sound from the outside that has the same frequency as when engines and bleed air running. It is a bit like hearing when putting on tins over your ears. So the new air flow over canopy is basically fine I believe, it is just the bleed air sound that needs to be toned down. I really like all the other sounds of the Hornet, but with this particular new one something is off.. in my opinion. But, does anyone else have this impression?
  22. lol really? I just had a look on the map. Wasn't there yet myself
  23. Nope, sadly not yet. Was hoping for it for the training range because it is shown in the release trailer.
  24. Yeah especially Comm 1 & 2 I wish the would be in the OFF position on cold start. As you can see HERE And will be turned ON after powered up after right engine start HERE
