this is probably a topic better served in a different thread but while I have your ear, here's something I've been wondering about the F-15 and it's pseudo-canard intakes and you seem to know a lot about ol' rodan...do you think that if the intake ramp schedule were shifted slightly, so that they maintain a slight AoA, with the resultant lift forward of the CG and the unloading of the tail, that the Eagle CAS is capable of keeping the plane flying with effectively relaxed stability? or would it need a "real" FBW and perhaps modification of the intake cowl system

To play the devil's advocate a little though, as a primarily F-15 pilot I can admit that the Turkey and the Tennis Court are soooooo equally matched in energy-maneuverability that the ability to pull an insane initial 12g+ initial turn from 600 knots at the merge gets you so far ahead in the first circle that it is a clear advantage...if you take advantage of it. I think the real issue is that DCS models factory-fresh aircraft which, sure both the tomcat and the eagle with 0 hours on them could spike a gajillion G's and probably not be worse for it. But what if DCS modeled very tired birds instead, or had the option to, planes near the end of their lifespans instead? Ones that would definitely break if you yanked them too hard. I don't know what the solution would be, perhaps a slider in the mission editor, under the loadouts section, "plane weariness"

reported AN/APG-63 range is under-represented
henshao replied to GGTharos's topic in Flaming Cliffs Bugs & Problems
that's good to know. it explains why interleave seems easier to notch than Medium PRF. intermediate PRF is an actual F-15 radar mode as well as far as I know (at least in the apg-70) so thanks for that. -

this is what I always thought; downside of interleave 4 bar scan should not be reduced detection range but rather the slow update speed of an 8 bar scan. 8 bar interleave, effectively 16 bars, etc -

another thing I've long been curious about: should interleave reduce detection ranges by 25%? -
it is tempting to read into it but we're talking about a literal simulation here

Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
henshao replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
my mistake. Mbot, not draconus, seems to be saying f-14a is behaving wrong -
Based on my observations, the F-15 autopilot seems to not be respecting deadzones also, the F-15 has functional instantaneous fuel flow gauges and also tank quantity display selector if you're really curious about what is going on in the fuel system though I am very curious what kind of instability you are running into and why. with the refueling door open some strange fuel tank behavior is possible

Patch Nov 18th - F-14A release - Feedback Thread
henshao replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
this is very true and one of the hardest things for me to learn in real airplanes (along with "pitching for airspeed" in a climb) after flying simulated F-15s for so long but just for the sake of completeness might I add- some FBW aircraft do not autotrim (Su-27) some non-FBW do autotrim (F-15) funny how that works isn't it? that being said draconus seems to be saying the F-14A is performing opposite to real aircraft. in reality power up = nose up but it seems power up = nose down in the sim. of course there could be other factors at play -
yes I am not sure how a mechanical array would guide two SARH at the same time on different targets. one after the other MAYBE but not the same time unless the targets were close enough to fit into what would be effectively a "Flood" area, or the radar has multiple arrays. a PESA or AESA has enough beam speed to sweep multiple targets at basically its pulse repetition frequency, that is to say from the missile's seeker perspective it is just a HPRF STT even if the electronically scanned radar is actually in TWS

The F-15E and the MiG-23 may be competing for dev effort but the former has IMO much more pre-existing work done and also IMO a much bigger potential market
-
F-15 has definitely had enough variants over the years to be consider a "module pack" so to speak, original F-15C vs current F-15C is different enough that the latter could honestly warrant a new letter (F-15F?), add in the F-15E and you have at least 6-7 aircraft worth modeling. A, C early, C midpoint, C late, E early, E late, and hybrid/Saudi/foreign
-
I know the Mig-31 has the capability to guide multiple R-33s at once, I was thinking maybe it was something similar. But if what you say is true then the Mig-31 radar most definitely is built around the R-33
-
So DCS Su-30 should not have the ability to guide SARH missile while attacking a second aircraft? I don't think I saved the track file but it should be possible to replicate that event
-
thank you do you know if -30kn has phased array radar to guide SARH missile while attacking another aircraft?

according to the tail number, at least one of the Saudi Eagles involved in a recent event was one of the F-15C "FrankenEagle" single-seat F-15E, tail 1323 (the near one)
-
so apparently the Saudis ordered some F-15C after the production lines were already switched over to mudhens. Several F-15E were built as single-seaters. I don't know much more than that but they are tail numbers 90-0263 through 90-0271 http://www.uswarplanes.net/f15.pdf given that the Saudi 100% ordered their F-15C with intent to bomb I can't help but wonder how what systems those "frankeneagles" possess/support

today I had an interesting experience with an AI Su-30 remaining in guidance mode on me while it was firing an R-77 at my wingman, which makes me curious what version of the Su-30 we have in game

As it should be. The cat has more than enough capability at 7.5g to get the job done. It is really quite a lot of available G already, if you find yourself needing to exceed 7.5g, examine your tactics and see where the breakdown is. Surely you don't need more G BVR so if you're WVR needing more, try flying slower

it may not be a normal thing in the USAF anymore, but it is for israel's F-15A's and C's. USAF before the invention of the F-15E (1980s) had a squadron of F-15C which trained ground attack as part of a Rapid Deployment Force but obviously the mudhen took over that role
-
i mean sure the F-15C had a dated cockpit, but like, what more do you need? Unless you were using it for ground attack and would want to see for instance datalink and targeting pod information at the same time, one MFD is probably enough. which is probably why USAF has upgraded their pits what I would look forward to as hinted to above is a hybrid/israeli F-15C with basically F-16 ground attack capability in a jet without ~3500lbs of extra weight

Bug - F-15C HUD, VSD, TEWS and MPCD blurred

I think razbam was working on f-15E and some have extrapolated that an F-15C will also come but maybe I am wrong -

still, if I'm up there I'd like to know where I'm looking. do we know if the real radar behaves this way?
