R9 290 vs GTX 680 Benchmark & Comparison
Cedaway replied to Darkphox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I received a gigabyte GTX770OC for christmas from my wife (Hurray). Coming from a ATI HD5870 (yeah, at this time, the company was yet named ATI...), it's a day/night difference in DCS! Now, I can place all sliders far to the right and mod it like a brute without any problem. And the thing I made was to re-install Metro: Last light to (finally) play it all maxed out. And it runs fine (just finished the game. It's sometimes... creepy but the story is interesting, the action is very good, well balanced,... I recommend). So, GTX770OC rocks! (OK, ok, to be honest, a SLI of this would be... What you wrote, Dav? Yes: Mind blowing!) -
Hi, as for graphic card speaking, Santa just gave me a new GTX770. I had an ATI HD 5870 before and I'm seeing a MASSIVE improvement in FPS. I haven't changed CPU as it's more than enough for now. But truth is it will not guaranty me problem free over saturated battlefield... So, is a GTX620 would be enough? If you let all the gfx options on low, maybe. But it's an entry graphic card. I would recommend a higher class, like NVidia GTX 660 (or even faster GTX760) at least or AMD 7970Ghz Edition (or R9-280x) For the CPU, your has a frequency of 3.00Ghz (up to 3.2 with turbo). You could see a difference by changing the CPU. If you have a good cooler, and have the sufficient knowledge, you could invest in a 'k' intel processor, that can be easily overclocked (like I5-3570k (3.4 -3.8Ghz, using the same LGA1155 Motherboard). It can be OC'ed easily to 4.0 GHz. The whole remaining question depends on the budget you want/could invest in your rig. Good luck.

Learn to fly it before trying to consider it as a war beast. Just learn how the hog respond to your inputs. Do the training missions and read the manual. If I have one advise, go gradually. There is no need of super sophisticated HOTAS. The basics (my own opinion) is to have a joystick (X&Y axis) and a 'Z' axis for the throttle. All the rest can be manipulated with the keyboard (but it's less easy and comfortable for sure).

This new Su-27 banner, at the top of the forum, is just gorgeous!!! Beautiful.

:trollmodeON: It had rounded hill tops... :music_whistling: Errr, wait,... no, it had not... Well, sure, it's not DCS-W... :trollmodeOFF: Sorry, couldn't resist :D Don't flame, it was a joke.

A little F-15C AFM update - 7 December 2013
Cedaway replied to uboats's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Have you read this: "Actual VLE on a "clean" F-15E is 300 KCAS, but with the LANTIRN pods hanging under the jet, the disturbed airflow buffets the gear doors and reduces VLE to 250 KCAS." Source: http://www.warbirdaeropress.com/articles/F15/F15%20Pt%201.htm I know it's not related to the F-15C AFM but I thought the story behind the link worth the read. (Sorry if it could be considered as 'parasiting'/'polluting' the thread) Anyway, the reason of the post: Wouldn't the module be called/released as "DCS Flamming Cliffs: F-15C"? But it's stated: "We are considering the possibility of creating a complete avionics model with clickable cockpit and accurate systems modeling. This would be a major development however, so a final decision has not yet been made." (Source: http://www.belsimtek.com/news/217/) In that case, the title would 'merit' its DCS: F-15c title, don't you think? (just add the accurate hydraulic system, electrical systems,... and we're good.) EDIT: Concerning the development of the F-15C AFM, "The flight model has been through over eight months of development and is now undergoing initial external (closed beta) testing. " (Source: http://www.belsimtek.com/news/217/) 8 Month! -
From what I understood, it's not a question of abandoning the rendering engine but to ADAPT it so that it can address instructions to the Mantle API instead of Dx.

I've read several articles discussing about the new low-level API from AMD: Mantle. It's said it could be interesting and efficient to augment the performances of our graphic cards. More accurately, the API might unleash the power of our GPU to their top level. There is an article explaining that in detail. HERE Do you, ED, are looking forward this solution? In some articles, it is said that this technology could be available to other GPU than AMD's, so NVidia and Intel could also profit this tech. The goal is to blow up the limitations of MS DirectX. There is an article (in french but slides in it are in english) about the game engine 'Nitrous', based on Mantle saying that the application running in it has massive FPS improvement. Mantle sounds to be particularly designed for real multithread operations. I'm neither programmer nor coder so I don't know if it is feasible but my question is: Is it possible to consider this solution to increase the perfs of DCS engine?

R9 290 vs GTX 680 Benchmark & Comparison
Cedaway replied to Darkphox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the benchmark. I find it usefull. Just a question: I see you have an 'unusual' resolution of 3120x1200. Does it play much on the results? -
Thanks Diveplane. Good work. But I think there still work to do. I love the sound but I personnaly hear some 'loop' or 'waves' in the sound, I don't know how to explain it. Like if the sound was not 'smoothened'. Exemple: the engine throttle is at a constant level and there is still a variation in the perceived sound, like a 'wave', with the volume of a certain part of the sound increasing and decreasing continuously at a smooth rate. OK, it's hard to describe with words, although with limited vocabulary like mine...

I didn't dare to ask...

Ongoing campaign mission, all ordnances dropped, all tanks destroyed... Quite happy of the 'carnage' after a long trip... I'd get back RTB and then 'Boum'! I got blown off by a missile launched by a Su-25! I was like 'By a what, a Su-25??? é"çè'§è§&é(çà'eè!&"rç!!!" Or the classic "Pylone dance"... It goes through, that I'm sure.... Boum! Ooops, it was just too tight with the cables...

Great! Thanks Matt. Now, I can't wait until a daylight video with all the shadows, mapping,...

 I think that PhysX is only a proprietary API of NVidia bought to AGEIA to convince people to buy NVidia cards. From its integration by NVidia, Physx NEVER changed the gameplay of ANY game, it had just made minor improvements to make the game nicer to see. I really think that ED has other priorities than integrate PhysX routines into their code. And finally, I think it's Off Topic. ;)

It takes the good direction. Looking forward it. Good luck, ED.

I've searched what is 'clipmaps' technology but I don't really understand. Is it a sort of level of detail scaling in relation with the distance of the scene, or a kind of dynamic tessellation?

Does anyone knows why is there a circular "line/pattern" at Groom Lake's Desert? https://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.283921,-115.797536&ll=37.281497,-115.795083&spn=0.029605,0.055747&num=1&t=h&z=15 It's about 2 miles wide! And starts here

You're right. A normal HDD is affordable. But I really want to keep my DCS installation on a SSD, for the decreased loading time and the 'stutter free effect' So, what amount of RAM and VRAM would be needed? I hope we could get an answer on that question, up to upgrade my rig accordingly.

I just wonder... What would happen if the Hoover dam got blown up??? :D (That would cost enormous in physics calculation, isn't it? But surely a feature...) EDIT: => SilentEagle: GO FOR IT, Hope the EDGE SDK will be released soon, as promised...

"Even with the use of lower resolution textures in places, the map is already 26 GB." :suspect:26Gb!!!:shocking::eek: Hopefully I have enough place on my SSD. Oh, Wags edited his post: Here :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
