  1. I finally completed the mission (successfully), Weed again did not engage the first group, but I'm pretty certain that's just me blasting the Floggers too quickly (I'm in TWS, so with both of them bugged, I just shoot at both). He probably would simply need more time to engage. He did engage the "Brushbacks", though. This time I tucked in behind Weed about 2 miles and let him get off the first shot (figured he still has his Aim-120's, he should probably use 'em ), so I was in a better position to take on Brushback No. 2.
  2. Tried 20 minutes ago, no freezes, could complete the mission, latest patch.
  3. I mean the V-22 would be an easy module to make: wouldn't even need a flight model. My guesses would be: UH-60 variant F/A-18E (F?) early F-15C full fidelity MiG-29 full fidelity Oh, I missed "3rd party" So, in that case strike the F-15 and MiG-29 Hmm, Phantom, Eurofighter and A-6 have already been kind of announced, so Cessna O1 AH-1W which is wishful thinking on my part
  4. Ok, let's say "comparatively" not that expensive anymore. Some of those things I've found when I googled probably cost more than a PPL and a lasik, and a used Piper Cup, so 5000 Euros are "nothing" in comparison
  5. IDK, from what I've seen, those platforms seemed decent enough. If it's good enough for sim racing, I suppose it'll be good enough for DCS....and the civvy one. As long as you don't want to mount a full-fledged homepit onto the thing. All I need to mount on top of it is a seat (if it doesn't come with one), a HOTAS, maybe a keyboard, a VR headset, and my elven-like arse. My biggest concern would be longevity. Edit: I've also found one for 180,000. Full 360° range of motion. Need to save up a little more, buy a garage, and invest in barf bags.
  6. What Dragon1-1 said. Also, motion platforms aren't that expensive anymore. There seem to be quite decent ones available for around 5000 bucks (that's less than a Sony A1 camera). 6 DOF.
  7. I wonder if the collision modelling will support landing anywhere flat? I'm looking at the Straight of Hormuz map, and then my thoughts drift back to the spring of 1980.....if you catch my drift, wink wink, nudge nudge. [yeeees, I know, those weren't "J's"....who cares?! ]
  8. For me, he did not engage the first time the option was presented (or I was too fast killing the southern group myself). Second engagement, he did engage with Sidewinder (9L?)... ...albeit too late for me, because I was going down in flames by the time he engaged. He did avenge me, though.
  9. I'm really excited for this campaign. Not only do we desperately need a high-quality SP campaign for the Viper, it's also the SEAD/ DEAD mission I was truly itching for, even before reading Hampton's book, but even more so after I've read it. Especially after having played the great Cerberus North campaign (where I'm still stuck in part 2 of the final mission; I get shot down every time , no matter what I'm doing. ), with itscustom ATC. And now you're adding custom IADS to this upcoming one? Instant purchase!
  10. Have you checked if you have any "double bindings" on your control axis? Maybe something is interfering with your input device? Because otherwise, it's all you, mate. I have absolutely no problems with AARing in the Tomcat, with a bog-standard (= no modifications), 10+ years old Logitech G940 HOTAS. I have zero curves and a tiny deadzone (1). Personally, I find the Tomcat to be the easiest module within DCS to AAR in. Excluding any "outside issues" like controller setup problems, my advice for you would be to just practice handling the F-14 (both A and B) in free flight. Set curves to zero on all axis. Tiny deadzone (1 or 2, depending on your stick and rudders). I make it a point to jump into a free flight instant action mission for half an hour or so, every time I come back to the Tomcat after spending some time in another module, and just practice precise flying. For example: keeping the VVI needle centered during cruise at different speeds and altitudes, turning without loosing/ gaining altitude, employing the rudder, formation flying, correct overhead breaks and AAR. In short, build (or regain) the necessary muscle memory Once you have that down cold, AAR should be a breeze.
  11. That might explain why subsequent Phoenix shots were "trashed"? I always - unscientifically - found that my first shot usually hit the target, whereas the second (and rare third) missile was going haywire. Since switching to VR, I got rid of TacView for performance reasons, so I had no way to check what the missiles were doing. Edit: strictly referring to TWS launches But IIRC someone (about a year ago?) came up with the theory that in TWS, the (in-game) AWG-9/ Jester would latch on to the first Phoenix instead of maintaining track of the target that would be "next in line" in TWS priority. Could also be complete hogwash, what do I know?! Guess we'll find out soon, though.
  12. Tried M13 yesterday, and Weed never launched. He was "stuck" on the Cat (Cat 3 IIRC from a quick F2 outside view check??). I'll try again later today and report back whether this was a one-time hickup or if it's reproduceable. Edit: on second try, Weed did launch and join up.
  13. All good arguments for a second season of the Tomcast. I hope Bio, Crunch and Jello take note.
  14. I'll just leave this here.....
  15. Yep, episode 5, I believe. @cheezitApparently, there were some commentators who seem to have raised doubts regarding the credibility of the guest.
  16. @baltic_dragonBD, have you ever considered releasing a payware spin-off to Dominant Fury, from the F-14 - as one of the "Spartans" - perspective, at some point in the future? I bet this could be really fun, to replay the campaign as a Tomcat pilot. I mean the basic campaign structure is already in place. Maybe add some Tomcat missions to replace those missions that have no Tomcats in them, some additional voice acting? Could be feasible, and I bet there'd be a sizeable market of Tomcat drivers that would be very interested in that. Just a suggestion.
  17. Same issue as described above, DCS crashes/ stops responding shortly after Jello declares feet wet. Most recent patch (August 24th), no mods installed.
  18. That's why I suggested ED could do it like with Black Shark or A-10C II. Copy/ paste the core and enhance it while leaving the "legacy" version as an alternative. So those who are content with the present NTTR wouldn't have an upgrade forced on them, and ED would get some additional revenue.
  19. I meant "abandoned" by the user base, not ED. Not a lot of content for this map, which is a shame IMO. As I said, it could be a fantastic map if it were to be extended (doesn't have to be for free: do it like the A-10II or Black Shark 2 models). And I never claimed there was. I was merely suggesting what IMO would be an easy win for ED for comparatively small effort. Edit: Just thinking about the possibilities makes me dizzy: NTC for the Apache, Combined Arms, could even fit the A-10 in I suppose. NAS Fallon: Tomcat, Hornet, F-5, A-4 mod. No brainer. Edwards: Could open some interesting possibilities for 3rd party developers who would like to recreate experimental aircraft from the 50's and 60's. Yeager, Hoover, Ridley anyone? OK, enough thread derailment.
  20. See, I know that. That was not at all my point. This was my point: NTTR could be a fantastic map if it would include Fallon, Edwards, China Lake, and Fort Irwin (NTC). As it stands, it's currently a mostly abandoned map. If it weren't for Zone 5 and the F-16 Red Flag campaign, I wouldn't own it.
  21. NTTR could be a fantastic map if it would include Fallon, Edwards, China Lake, and Fort Irwin (NTC). Maybe a little texture overhaul.
  22. Can't wait for the Western Mongolia map...... Seriously, while it's great that so many 3rd party developers are coming to DCS, maybe making more, let's say "applicable" maps would be even greater. If the Australian map would at least include Timor/ Indonesia (as someone posted previously) for near-present conflicts, or New Guinea & Solomons, where the WWII people would have something useful to play with(of course there'd also need to be Australian, early US Navy/Marines and IJN/IJA assets). I mean, there is already a very pretty civilian flight sim out there, that has the sightseeing department pretty much covered, and IMO it's prettier than any competitor. Personally, I come to DCS for the combat emphasis, and maps where real-world conflict was actually a thing, especially given the timeframe all DCS modules cover, would be preferable. Like, Iraq, Vietnam, Central Europe, India/Pakistan, Central America, parts of Africa.... I don't see northern Australia as a viable conflict zone. Maybe in 50 years, but there certainly won't be any legacy Hornets and Vipers around. Just my 2 Cents. And just to clarify, I am not against new maps - including those I have no interest in - and I wish the dev all the profit in the world, but I also wish they would release more geostrategically significant (= viable 60's to 90's, or WWII conflict potential) maps.
