The A. That explains it, because "Fear the Bones" is the first time ever that I use the A around the boat. Thanks!

Hi, since the latest update I noticed that when I'm "calling the ball", the pilot says "Hornet Ball" (I'm in the F-14 ofc). Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but if I am not gravely mistaken this is a step back from him actually saying "Tomcat Ball" pre-patch? I am using VoiceAttack/VAICOM Pro (which also received some updates), so maybe some of the commands got mixed up? Could someone who does not use VAICOM Pro do me a favor and test this with the "vanilla comms" to see if this is something on my end, or if that ball () is in ED's court. Otherwise, burble is a little unnerving, but manageable (lots of one-wires, though)

Hi Greg, I was just playing mission 4 ("First Blood") and I couldn't hear Focus. I normally use the ARC-159 for preset 1 (flight) and have Jester push the respective preset buttons for each mission asset (to keep my "head down" time to a minimum). Now in this mission, it turned out that the preset button 2 on the ARC-182 doesn't seem to work. After several prompts to inform Focus on passing waypoints with no reaction, I switched to preset 2 on "my" radio and told jester to switch to the fighter frequency, and suddenly I could hear Focus (too late, as I was already at WP 3). Is this by design (=on purpose), or a mission bug? Other than that, great campaign so far! I'm really enjoying the 80's vibe (having been a teenager during the 80's myself). Edit: I just flew the mission again and checked the kneeboard card. ARC-159 preset 2 (251.000) corresponds with ARC-182 preset 3 (251.000). In the briefing, preset 3 is the tanker, Arco IIRC.

Hi, I thought to pass the time until the next big patch/update, you'd enjoy listening to this podcast: https://youtu.be/wLySFC6c2Qo

If you listen to it at ten times speed, you can hear it's not a seismic anomaly...but a magnetohydrodynamic drive.

I found another small booboo in mission 6 (SC version) in 2.7 (the "Bombcat" mission): All works fine, but on return to the carrier I found an AI F-14 had parked smack in the middle of the landing area on the flight deck, right on top of the wires: shut down, wings swept, canopy open. On the "Stennis" (Truman). I have found the culprit: it was the wingman from the F-14 flight that attacked Senaki. What a jerk!

I find it quite challenging to get behind the F-15C in the F-14A. Going once-circle and shooting it in the face after the first or second pass, on the other hand, works quite well.
-
Can't wait. Hopefully ED doesn't sit on it for too long. I need fresh Tomcat content!

F-15C guns only with no head-on shots allowed, or SU-33 with off-boresight IR missiles? Oh, and you should fly in the F-14A, of course. And another edit: for the ultimate challenge, don't exceed 6.5G

Does the heli get destroyed, though? In my recent playthrough (last Friday), it was. According to my Tacview, the MiG doesn't fire missiles or guns, but the helicopter gets destroyed anyway. I checked the Tacview file from an older, pre-2.7 playthrough, and it's exactly the same. I suppose this is a gameplay concession, because a "real" missile might not hit and wreck the whole mission flow.

The mission kinda sorta works on my end, but still has some quirks. I accomplished it successfully at least 3 times pre-2.7, so I don't think I did something wrong: Somehow the initial "Pontiac trigger" doesn't fire. I fly to steerpoint 1 as per briefing (and because I already know how the mission plays out and I therefore know what I'm supposed to do ), visually acquire Pontiac flight and form up with them, follow them unit they launch their TALD's, then fly to my assigned CAP station and the rest of the mission triggers as it should. On my way back to the carrier, just as I am about to enter the stack, suddenly the first mission trigger fires, and I get the "MiG magnet" message and Jester's briefing recap. A bit anti-climatic, I'd say. Since the message was triggered when I was practically behind the boat (somewhere around 5-8 miles?), I assume the trigger zone must have "wandered off".

I had an inkling that it might be too much work for such a small change, hence my preface. I was just wondering if there was an easy way to tone Jester down a notch (and not completely "off") for those who think him too much while still keeping him the way he is for those of us who like him that way. Apparently, not easy at all.
-
Just for the record: I don't mind the jokes and banter at all. I find Jester's comments hilarious (except maybe during AAR where it's too much IMO), and they make the sometimes rather lonely single player experience in the regrettably all too sterile DCS environment much more entertaining. Jester also makes the module much more organic. The only Jester fixes I would like to see are already mentioned in the roadmap, so, personally, I'm good.
-
I don't know whether this would be feasible or too complicated to implement, but I could imagine a "Jester slider" in the special options menu to be a good solution sometime in the future. Set it to 100 and Jester will crack jokes like Chapelle on steroids, set it to zero and he will have the sense of humor of an especially dull Vulcan. Anywhere in between will trigger his funny takes at a certain rate.

So, will the "next gen soundtrack" be more "All along the Watchtower" or "Waterloo"-inspired? -
Heatblur Update - Supersize Me & Public Roadmap
Jayhawk1971 replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Next Gen = Gripen. A developer that made the Viggen and is in the process of delivering an AI Draken. Eurofighter is already "taken", and 6th gen is way too arcadey due to the utter lack of useful unclassfied information. Seems like a no-brainer. Super Hornet is too close to ED's product. Edit: Rafale could be a possibility, but given that HB seems to be very, err" Ikeaphile", I doubt that. -
As I said a couple of months ago: since hard documentation on the AIM-54C appears to be impossible to come by for the time being (and foreseeable future), HB should collect all the soft data they can (from their SMEs and unclassified literature) and make their best guess regarding C-model performance. At least for single player (by far the larger player base in DCS). For MP, either implement that as well but leave it up to server admins, or simply don't bother with the C at all. Edit: Provided ED lets them. Ultimately, all missile performance appears to be in ED's court.

Thanks. Maybe Bio should have delivered the same briefing to his instructors as well. I swear, especially the Vipers always seem to aim straight for my nose. (both AI Vipers and F-15s seem to tighten their turns very aggressively and keep forcing head-on passes, with no regards for their own safety). Maybe they completely misunderstood the term "murder board"?

Hi, just had a weird issue during event 2 (1v1 vs F-16). After winning the second engagement, on egress, at around IP, right after completing the fence-out check, my aircraft suddenly exploded. Out of nowhere. Since this is a single ship mission, no wingman to collide with. Flying straight and level Mach 0.83 @ 23000 ft. (at 1G). The bogey F-16 however did seem to have crashed into my left wing right after I shot it down with an AIM-9 in a head-on pass earlier. Could this explosion be a delayed action, since I assume the player aircraft changes back from "invincible mode" when passing BIGHORN? This is my third playthrough, the first with 2.7, and previously I never had any such issues whatsoever. Unfortunately I forgot to save the replay/ track file, but I have a TACVIEW file if that helps any.

No curves, only a deadzone in my case because my Logitech G940 is too mushy in the center (and throttle too spikey, but that's a different story; makes AAR a real "joy"). Anyway, the best setting for the Tomcat is actually no curves at all, but a lot of stick discipline, especially when you "transition" from a FBW aircraft like the Hornet or the Viper. When I first started out in the Tomcat, I actually set -10 (negative) curves until I got the hang of it, then went to 0 curves. The F-14 module requires a considerable amount of training. Hence why I have neglected the Hornet module so much, because I actually dread having to "relearn" the Tomcat if I play around with FBW modules too much. The Tomcat handles more like a very overpowered warbird or F-86 than modern FBW "plastic jet".

Why is ACLS not working in some scenarios?
Jayhawk1971 replied to Cato Larsen's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
My only problems with ACLS have been when I fail to get a working DL-connection with the carrier. For example in Mission 2 of the "F-14B Iron Heel Campaign". Works fine in mission 4, though. If there is a valid DL, ACLS pretty much works ok (4 wire, seems that indeed the glidescope angle is too shallow). At first I thought this might have been VAICOM-related, that Jester simply didn't understand the "link host" command. But it works in other missions, so could be a bug or an oversight in mission design? -
Adding to what draconus wrote, if you want to reduce speed before landing, do it right by performing an overhead break. Wings will sweep to 20 on their own if set to auto as you bleed speed rapidly in the turn (especially if you enter the break with wings swept full back MAN).

This video reminds of the that old classic Top Gear episode where they kept flipping those Robin Reliants over.
