NOTE: Due to the recent update with link4 data link and hornet ACLS, AIN will be working to get those features in the mission before public time. Again, we will be removing the password at 2000 hours (8PM eastern time) and everyone is welcome. there will be slots for the following aircraft. F14 Tomcat, A & B. F/A-18 Hornet (on both the Truman Super Carrier and the Forrestal as well as on shore bases.) UH-1 helicopters for plane guard CSAR/ CTLD. AH64's from the Tarawa AV8B's from the Tarawa and Kuznetsov 2017. Su33 from the Kuznetsov 2017. (Might be a few ashore as well.) In the northern part of the map there will be a cold war/ Vietnam area with F5's UH1's, and payload restricted F/A-18's (playing the role of A6's) and F14A's playing the role of F4's (payload restricted to Sparrows) In the southern part of the map there are non-payload restricted A10C 2's, F16's, and Mirage 2000's. I think there are a few P47 slots in the cold war area of the map to play the role of A1 sky raiders. There are boom and basket tankers, both S-3's and KC135 MPRS and KC135 boom tankers. All tankers should have working TACAN's, as do the ships. There are SA342 Gazelles for CTLD/ CSAR and plane guard duty. (There might be a couple Mi8's and Mi24's if I recall correctly.) (there's a couple Mig21 slots around the map as well.) The mission name is "AIN ship operations" The mission will be running all weekend, and again, everyone is welcome to drop by and fly. See you in the skies. (we had a little weather issue with the tankers, but that'll be fixed.)

I forgot to add that we'll have AH64s on the Tarawa as well. Operating from ships in the AH64 is fun.

AIN will be running our Ship operations mission on April 29th 2022 starting at 2000hrs (8pm) easter time (1800 mountain, 1700, pacific time) During this event there will be Hornets, tomcats, and helicopters on the Forrestal and the Super Carrier, as well as AV8B harriers on the Tarawa. The TACAN's and ICLS will be set for the different ships. CTLD and CSAR will be active so we can have Huey's pulling plane guard duty (or whatever helicopter) There will be tankers in the air with both boom and basket for practicing a2a refueling. Here is a link to our discord https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn During this event we're taking the password off the AIN server. (AIN Ship Operations will be the mission name.) While we've tested the mission with different mods, during the event there will be no mods. (if there's enough intrest we can do another with the A4 and/or the UH60L Depending on what people want. Here's a few screen shots of some mission testing in the UH60

Sorry, guess I misunderstood the question. Here are some general specs for you, hopefully this helps. A USMC squad 10-12 infantry (including 3 saw gunners) clearly this changes from time to time, but that's about as close as you can get in dcs. A US Army infantry squad 8-9 including 2 saw gunners. Should fit in one Stryker. A Bradley squad will be closer to 6 infantry. U.S. armored platoons are 4 tanks. For DCS, as close as we can get to a us/NATO style armored company is close to: 3-4 tank platoons 2 tanks (co/xo) 1-2 Bradley command vehicle. 1 heavy truck 2 scout / atgm hummer (I use one of each) 1 fuel truck. For Red side cold War 3 tanks to a platoon 3 platoons in company 2 IFV for command in company.(hq) 2 tanks (co/xo) company (hq) 1 sa19 (sa21, sa15, zsu-23, your choice) 1-2 heavy trucks. 1-2 fuel trucks. I also add a Russian jeep type thing. Those are not perfect companies, but they are generally representative. A U.S army Stryker platoon is 4 Stryker. Only 3 will have a .50. One (Irl) has a mk19 or something. (I rode many miles in a mk19 equipped stryker) when I make a Stryker platoon in dcs I use 3 ifv and 1 ATGM. As a generalization, NATO/ western trained armies use 4 tanks or 4 IFV per platoon. (3 platoons/ company + HQ stuff) Warsaw pact (as a generalization) uses 3 vehicles but sometimes adds a 4th platoon to a company and almost always has SPAA with a company. In my squadron we have a guy who was a stinger team in the USMC. He helped me develop a quasi stinger (on humvee) platoon/ group. 3 humvee stinger 1 atgm stinger 1 ammo truck. 1 fuel truck. It isn't perfect, but it's as close as we could do with avaliable DCS assets. Here's some naval stuff. In 1980's the US navy used some surface action groups in the Persian Gulf. (See U.S.S. Vincennes/Iran air shoot down) 1 Ticonderoga class cruiser 1 Perry class frigate. From my research the U.S. navy rarely puts more than 1 Ticonderoga cruiser in a battle group. They'd like to, there's just a finite number of those ships. A carrier battle group (usa) can't be perfect in dcs. We don't have fast supply ships, or SSNs. And an SSN generally isn't very close to the carrier. (Think dozens of miles) from what I understand, there's no such thing as a friendly submarine close to a carrier. (All subs are hostile type of ASW thinking) this means US subs generally stay outside the close ASW bubble around the CV unless they need a doctor or something. With all that in mind I make my cv groups with 1 cv, 1 cg, 2-3 ddg, 1-2 ffg, depending on what I'm doing. I make separate Tarawa groups with the Tarawa, 1 DDG, (sometimes, not always) 2-3 FFG, and sometimes a gunboats or 2 (LA Combatant) Tip. Most armies will put a gun truck or MP IFV at the front, middle and back of a fuel or supply convoy on the roads. Before 1990, most Iranian armored formations were NATO style, because of all the money spend by the shah. Israel is a small country, they generally run fewer logistics and supply vehicles in their armored formations. Insurgents and ISIS/ ISIL would often use 2 truck bombs. One to blow the gate, one to detonate inside the convoy or compound. The U.S. military rarely, if ever, fires only one cruise missile at anything. If it's worth shooting, it's worth shooting a couple times. I hope that information is closer to what you're looking for. Remember in dcs we can't make things perfect because of limited assets, so I personally try and substitute as best as I can.

You can script it. "Once, no event" "Unit hit (static unit name)" "Explode unit, (explosive value)". Hope that helps, let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Yes you can make your own templates. I'm not at my computer right now, so I'm doing this from memory. In mission editor there is a bar of options on the left of your screen. Stuff like deploy airplane group... One of the options is two boxes with a line connecting them. First, make a unit like you want. Move it around and into the formation you want. Select that unit by clicking on it. Push the "save template" option. Now, you can only save a template to the nation it is when you make it. Thus why most of mine are either red or blue Joint forces. Name the template, for example "Red T72 company" or whatever. Now when you go back to add template you can pick which you want and drop it where you want. If you need further help here's a link to my discord and I can screen share with you or something. Or you can just drop by and fly, ask a question, or whatever. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn

Mission Editor Scripts library
Dscross replied to RagnarDa's topic in Scripting Tips, Tricks & Issues
Nice work. I'll be using this for refrance... -
Personally, I don't think disabling auto start is a good idea, however I disagree that it's impossible. I recently watched and rewatched a video about scripting by Reflected Simulations. In it he talks about how every key bind/ action has a value and as a mission designer you can hook actions/ events to those events. While I don't know how to do it, I'm betting you could disable the action relatated to auto start in the script file for the mission. For example, if you have the binding number for auto start, you could add a message to player like having jester say; "Lazy bastard." If you push the auto start. (Well you'd need a jester voice file saying that... but you get it.) If I were doing this, I'd just hook a failure to the autostart so it breaks 100% of the time. Now this might break the jet, or something, so you'd need to play with it, but I think you could get it to work. Anyway here's the video I was talking about.

HOTAS Confusion and sheer frustration!!!!
Dscross replied to PMac's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Lol, see, someone who likes steam better. So now I've got to change it. "Most people prefer standalone over steam." But there are people who prefer steam... -
Oh yeah, mines are super fun. Interestingly... if you're really devous you can script an artillery strike to on. So when a specific mine detonates it trips a flag that causes an arty strike in the zone, or on the unit. You can also make the mines...bigger...lol. FYI you can make sea mines with triggers and scripting, buts its something of a pain. You just need something (a unit or static) that floats and put a trigger zone around it. When a blue, or red unit enters the trigger zone the original unit explodes with how ever much of a blast you want... (bigger is always better, lol) Edit: I made suicide bombers and truck bombs this way. The bomber enters a zone it explodes with however much explosive I want. Then I make the suicide bomber late activation, and hook it to a trigger. So say when a helicopter flies over a building, or a blue tank drives down a road, the bomber activates, runs where I tell it, and blows up.

A-4E skyhawk Install issue
Dscross replied to Deadly_Seafood's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Hey, guys, the community A4 is free. It wasn't developed by ED. However thousands of players have it, including myself. I started in dcs with the A4. I still fly it regularly. I've spoken to members of the development team, and I have one of the development team on my discord. So here's a couple things. First, if you paid for the A4, please inform the development team where you got it, and who is charging for it. They'll want to nip that quickly. It's free for everyone, and from everything I know, it'll stay that way. Second, if you have A4 question on anything from install to bombing or navigation, feel free to stop by my squadron discord. It's often easier to help figure things out that way. Here's the link. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn Third. Some versions of the A4, and some other great mods like the UH60 have sub folders and so on. Here's how I install them. I download only from the official mod link. (Very important) next I extract all files to my desktop. I then go into my c drive/users/my name/ saved games/ open beta. I make or check to ensure I have a "mods" folder. (Make it if you don't have it) inside mods, I make "aircraft" inside aircraft I copy and paste the basic mod file. It'll be the last sub folder in the download before you see "bin" "liveries" and all that. Paste the A4 into that folder. IT CANNOT GO INTO THE MAIN GAME FOLDER UNDER PROGRAM FILES! if you've accidently done that, repair your dcs. Remove anything and everything connected with the wrongly placed A4, including user profiles (One will auto generate) I hope that helps you guys out. The link to the discord is up a few lines. If have any questions just go there and myself or someone else will walk you through it and get things figured out. -

Dscross replied to PMac's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Some good advice here. Rudel_chw is good and helping answer questions. However, sometimes it's something else. So I'm sure they got it right this, about steam, I'll like add a couple things. First, the best advice I can give you is to convert your dcs to open beta and ditch steam. I don't know anyone who has converted who dosent have a better experince in open beta or stand alone. I'm sure they're out there, but I don't know them. Second, dcs is always easier if you have someone to help you, someone to fly with or whatever. With that in mind, I tell you want I tell all new players. Here is the link to my squadron discord. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn We have some pretty good instructors. We don't know everything, but the squadron can probably help isolate most issues, and controls binding is certainly one We can help with. Drop by anytime. Everything about dcs is better when you have a group you can fly with, get instruction from, or just hang out with. Welcome, and good luck. We'll see you in the skies. -
First if all, welcome to DCS. Okay, so depending on how your brain is wired, using a pre made bindings might work great, or won't work at all. Personally I can't use anyone else profiles as I apparently bind things weird, yet they make sense to me. So keep that in mind. Next, DCS is very different that any other sim I've played. It's a combat sim. The normal bindings you want quick access to in say, Microsoft flight sim, don't matter as much. Different priorities. Trust me I learned that one one the hard way. Alright, now all that being said, DCS can be daunting and even frustrating as he'll when you first get here. I know it was for me. Because of that frustration, I ended up starting a squadron to help new and old players alike learn their aircraft. We've got instructors for just about all the jets in DCS, and most of the helicopters. You're welcome to drop by our discord. Just say you need help with something and you're new, or whatever and we'll find someone to help you. Trust me, it save you about a month of frustration to talk to one of our guys about binding your stuff. Here's the discord link, anyone who needs a little dcs help, or just wants someone to fly with is welcome. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn See you in the skies.

Looking for more info about making cinematic videos
Dscross replied to Art of Simulation's topic in Screenshots and Videos
I've done a few videos using dcs. None have been perfect. It's a learning process. Let me share with you some things I've learned recently. Triggers. Resort each scene at least twice. Just because you can't do it with the airplane, dosent mean you can't film it, use a little editing and make it look good. But seriously, reshoot, Rosholt, Rosholt. You'll never get the AI to do what you want in just the right way. Use triggers to force things to happen the way you want. Sometimes you'll need to make the explosion bigger. Name you units for the mission so you know who everyone is. Organization pays off big time when you want things to happen or are scripting something to happen. If you have any questions, or need advice or whatever, here's a link to my squadron discord. Drop by anytime, and I'll do what I can to help. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn -
We're testing the mission now, and during the testing phase we have the A4 community mod in the mission. (It'll be removed for the public open flight missions.) Here are some more screenshots of AIN pilots testing the mission. Again, anyone is welcome to come to the free flight sessions. If you want in on the testing phase and have the A4 mod and UH60 mod, just drop by the discord in the original post and we'll get you the password. FYI: The refueling a4 is one of our British pilots. I haven't been able to refuel in the A4 yet. (Or most other jets if I'm honest. But the new virpil controls did enable me to plug into the tanker with the Hornet for the first time)

DCS takes the simulations too literally to be fun or practical.
Dscross replied to gotit's topic in New User Briefing Room
Agreed Sir. I think however that the problem here is that while many of us very much enjoy the sandbox, someone felt the urge to urinate in our lovely sandbox out of what seems childish contempt for not being able to learn how to build a sandcastle. When that person could have simply asked likely anyone here for help, in learning to build sandcastles. Instead, they've pissed in it. I did debate making counterarguments, etc. But after having written one up, it dawned on me that this really is just someone pissing in the sandbox. Well then, I'm going back to my sandbox, and I'm taking my toys with me. Anyone who doesn't want to urinate in my sandbox is welcome to join... Seriously, it's just trolling or childish lasing out from someone who didn't get what they wanted. It'd be best to just shut the thread down. I.E., moderator, please lock this thread. California needs no more stereotype ("I don't like it, change for me!") reinforcement. -
Hello all, I'm inviting anyone who would like to participate to an AIN ship operations multi-player mission. We are going to run it on Caucasus map with no mods. There will be 4 big ships, super carrier, non super carrier, Tarawa, and Kutz for the flanker pilots. The mission will have active csar/ctld so the helo pilots can do plane guard duty while the jets do flight operations. AIN will have tutors for all the fixed wing, and at least a few of the helicopter models. There will be a few low threat level ground targets so people can practice that as well. We haven't yet set an exact time and date for this training, as we're going to run it several times, and we'll likely leave the server open and without a password while this mission runs. So come out and hop in your favorite aircraft and do some carrier practice. The tacans will work, as will the ICLS so you can even do automatic carrier landings in your tomcat. There will be tankers up with active TACANs and easy comms will be enabled. The mission will be "AIN Ship operations" in multi-player. Here is the link to our discord.https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn More information will be forthcoming, and I'll will add to this post. We hope you'll show up regardless of your flight experince level. We'll see you in the skies!

One of the many things I struggle with when making missions is a general lack of historical units from Israel, in addition to skins to existing vehicles such as halftracks. Considering the inclusion of the Northern part of the State of Israel exists in the sim, and assets like the Mig-21, Mi-8, UH-1, Ah64, and the forthcoming F-4 Phantom (legend has it...), I would like to request some new assets, or at the very least, some IDF skins for things like halftracks and M4 Shermans, and M60's. However, and this is my opinion, there are a couple weapons which need to be modeled. There is no model for the ground versions of the hispano 20mm cannon in game, at least that I know of. Furthermore, how many 20mm Oerlikon guns were make? During the Falkland's conflict, both sides used the 20mm Oerlikon (? sorry about spelling, never could spell that one...) Auto cannon. Hopefully this is something that ED has taken into account with the rumor of a south Atlantic map. So, here's an image of a vehicle that I personally as a mission maker would find a lot of use for in cold war era settings, like 1973 War, 6-day war, Falklands war, Vietnam, 1st Gulf war even, if I'm being honest. And finally, there is the ground based 35mm. the twin 35mm (same guns as mounted on the Gepard already in game...) is used in large numbers by a number of nations. Iran deploys very large numbers of the 35mm guns, and mounting foundations for the guns can be seen in sat images of important sites around Iran. The 35mm was heavily used during the Iran-Iraq war. Currently in mission making, I use a Gepard as a replacement, but I don't like to, as these are towed guns and such. You get it. Thanks, I know you get requests for more, more, more al the time. I hope ED will consider this. See you in the skies. The file was there, but it and the "servers Passwords" files were both wiped. They have stuff in them now because I'm rebuilding all the templates and saving passwords again. For example in my passwords file, I had passwords for about 8 servers, now I have one, just the squadron server.
-
Hey everybody, I've been trying this out for the last couple days, no luck, so I'm posting it here. A few days ago when I opened mission editor all my saved templates, including the stock ED templates, were gone. At the same time I also lost all my favorites and passwords to multi-player servers. Now this really sucks, because I make most of the squadron missions, and I had dozens of premade templates saved. I'm putting this here because I don't know what happened. It's possible I did something, but I wouldn't have messed with the template Lua files on purpose, or even accidently if I was paying any attention. But I'm not discounting that it happened because I did something. However, I'm pretty sure it wasn't me. I was (that day) working with the mist, ctld, csar Lua files, but again, I don't see any reason why I would have wiped my templates file and my server passwords file. Everything was fine, then my game crashed in multi-player. I tried to log back on, and all my favorites were gone. The next day I found I was missing all my unit templates. (Like ALL OF THEM, 100% wiped) Anyway, if this has happened to anyone else, or anyone knows why this might have happened, please let me know. Until then, I'll be remaking dozens of unit templates and saving them... FYI: I'm making a mission with all the units and groups set out and I'll be posting it in the mission files when I get most of my templates remade, in case someone else wants them, or this has happened to anyone else. Thanks again, see you in the skies.

Are there rules for Missons uploaded into "user files"?
Dscross replied to Dscross's topic in Forum and Site Issues
Thanks, that is what I assumed, but someone of the guys in the squadron were sure that Ed wouldn't allow a mission with bombers in it. Anyway, thanks for letting me know. I know with the Ah64 released, the F1 in testing, the south Atlantic map, fielding complaints about how long the F15E is taking, the new FLIR... the staff must be pretty busy. That being said, if there was a rule or something, I did want to know so I can stay inbounds with my missions and such. Thanks again for your reply- 3 replies

Hey, quick question, I have begun to upload some of the missions, training and squadron missions, onto the user files section of DCS. The first mission was an Air Policing Mission to intercept and shootdown a hijacked airliner. The mission went active in just an hour or some, maybe a little more. No problems. The second mission I uploaded was submitted about 30-36 hours ago and is still listed as pending. It is a little training mission in the AH64 where the player takes on three waves of suicide bomber trucks headed towards the base. Given the topic, and who knows, just want to see if my mission isn't being released because it violates some rule I'm not aware of or something? Anyway, some of the guys in my squadron are convinced that ED is going to ban that mission / remove it. ( because I put suicide bombers in the mission and the description.) I don't because after all, this is a combat simulator, and VBIED's have been sort of a thing for awhile around the world. Furthermore, anyone who owns the Nevada map and the MiG-21 can drop an atomic bomb on las Vegas or Area 51... So I mean, it's a game/ sim, and all that? Anyway, just want to make sure. If the mission it's being approved because the moderators are just overworked or something, cool, I get it. Anway, someone can let me know that'd be very helpful, thanks.
