  1. Guys, I hate to break up the party... but I too wondered about how the F15E will fare inside the merge. I tested it. I put AI F15E's in, gave them half fuel and only guns. I got in my F14B, full fuel, 4 AIM-54, 2 AIM-7, 2 AIM-9. I only used guns. It was the same every time I ran it. The F15E went into the merge, and within 1/2-1 turn my tomcat was behind it and I was putting 20mm into the Eagle. EVERYTIME. So, I tried the F14A. Same result. I lowered the fuel in the Mudhen, fully loaded an F14A. Again, dead F15E in very short order. I personally sort of dislike the F16. Its whatever, but it's just not my favorite. I flew it anyway, and again I was behind that Mudhen very quicky and gunning it. Hornet... Same, inside the merge it ALWAYS resulted in a dead F15E. The Mirage 2000 was just silly as in all the others, a dead eagle in very short order. Now I'm not a guy who gets on PvP dogfight servers and does that. It's not my thing. I like intricate long missions to strike something, hit a tanker, all that. That's what I like. So I generally avoid merging with stuff unless I'm in my Tomcat and doing CAP. Then I'm game. But close in dogfighting just doesn't hold much interest for me. (Partly because I generally fly PVE and the AI flight model is stupid broken.) I can do it if I have to, but I'm not the best. Radio navigation? that's neat. So If I can almost effortlessly slap an AI F15E with a fully loaded Tomcat (no I didn't jettison anything) then I'd venture to guess most of you ACM addicts can slap one pretty quickly. The F15E has a TON of drag from those bomb racks. (The Dash-1 is on amazon, and it lists drag index's for the jet, go get your copy). As a side note, I also put a 4 ship if F15Es' up, have them 2 bags, 2 x AIM-9 and 6 x AIM-120's. Three of us from the squadron got in Hornets and went to get them. We got smoked. BVR the F15E is MEAN. it can go fast and chuck those AMRAMS out at long range. When the E does come out, and you're in your PVP playland, avoid it if you're in something you're not comfortable in. Guns only? well, I'm sure a reasonable Hog driver can kill it. (Never mind, Hog drivers never jettison, even if they're on fire with one wing. "I can make it home..." lol. you guys know who you are...) Of course, this is all dependent on how well the flight model on the in game F15E is. I can't answer that. I've put them in missions and tried to compare the AI flight performance to the F15E Dash 1, but... Meh... So, take this all with a grain of salt. But you can test it, get mission editor up, toss in some F15Es, fight them, see how you do. Run the same test with F15C's and compare the results. Again, my best bet is that if you know your jet, you'll probably be okay against an F15E inside the merge. And you'll probably be in trouble if the F15E has BVR missiles.

    F-15C Practice

I've be practicing AAR with the F15C as well. I make it a point to ALWAYS bring three bags to add some weight and drag. If I'm just going up to tank I also load AIM-7s as they look bigger and I assume they're modeled for a little more drag. I suppose I could test the speed of an F15 and Hornet with Sparrows instead of AIM-120s, but I'm just assuming here. Anyway, I make the jet as heavy as possible and as much drag as I can give it, then I go tank. lately there seems to be an on/ off again bug where the boom tankers won't call "transfer complete" in the F15. today I was flying my Tomcat and tanked that from 9000 pounds to full. While the Tomcat isn't a boom refuel and it uses the basket, it's a big Jet with lots of stuff hanging off. I also try and Tomcat tank the F14 while carrying a Targeting pod and 4x GBU16 for the weight and drag. In the mission editor the AI F15E has around 38,000 pounds of gas, so either way you're going to be sitting under the tanker for a bit if you've got 3 tanks plus internal fuel to fill. Do I think I'll need to tank often in the F15E? Nope. Will I? you bet. I've also been putting time in tanking various A10's with payloads, but I don't really think that compares much (apart from both using a boom.) Apart from the failure of the tanker to sometimes tell you that you're full in the F15 C, the flow rate of the fuel seems off. One of the guys in my squadron was a crew chief on a KC135, and he seems sure that the flow rate on the KC135 in DCS is wrong, as in too slow. I am hoping that the flow rate is adjusted for the KC135, but either way, it's good practice to stay behind the tanker. I'm glad I'm not the only one hitting the tanker in my F15C. But again, if you have the Tomcat, I'd say tanking any big 2 engine jet is going to be useful practice. EDIT: I'm now wondering how tanking the F4 will be, as that cockpit wasn't known for great visibility. That'll be fun!
  3. Same problem here. I removed those files from the liveries folder. At first my game won't load. "Logging in" for several minutes now. I forced it to close as it was stuck. Rebooted the game and logged right in. The Mirrors work in the Tomcat properly now after having deleted that cockpit mod. (Just to be sure I trashed all the Cockpit and paint F14 liveries. Works now. Now I guess I go work on the other bugs... *sigh* But seriously thank for figuring this out. I didn't even remember I had that cockpit mod installed until I read your post.
  4. First, I'm a PC expert. Not my thing. But I play the same single player mission the day before multithreading update, average frames around 75-80. Same mission with Multithreading... 40-60. Multiplayer day before multithreading update 70-80 FPS. Today 40-55 FPS. I don't know how to get all the technical stuff probably needed, but I can put my PC specs. I7 10700F 3060TI (month old) 64GB DDR4 ram. (I think the frame rate counter is on in the screenshot. Also notice the mirrors. What's that? (and how do I fix it?) So, all in all, while some people got lucky with this new update, I got screwed with performance. FYI, The target pods are nice. the new vehicle FLIR is making targeting pod work much nice. Stuff shows up again now.
  5. looks like it's coming along nicely
  6. No this hasn't happened with any other module, and I own most of them. However, there is some good news. Deleting everything didn't help. removing the entire module and reinstalling didn't work. It was still bugged yesterday, however I checked it again as soon as the hot fix 2.8.2.35759 Open Beta was installed. Now all the red is gone from the F1ee controls binding. and to make things better, even the CE has all the red removed. So, looks like it wasn't me or my system, but something in one of the updates that got broken, and got fixed in the HOT fix. Hopefully this doesn't happen again and the fix sticks. Looking forward to flying the F1EE.
  7. I've deleted them twice already. Now I just got the EE, and here we go again. I've got those stupid red exclamation points all over. I can't fly the F1 if the controls won't bind. I had hoped that when the EE was released this would get fixed. It first started happening when the first yaw and pitch stability update hit. Now every update I get more and more red exclamation points. I have given up flying the F1 air to air because I can't bind the controls. Now it looks like I won't be able to fly the EE either. I'm going to uninstall the F1. Then I'm going to reinstall. I've already completely cleared all the bindings twice. If that doesn't fix the problem, I'll be submitting a ticket. I'm not happy about having an aircraft I can't use the controls on.
  8. Okay I fixed it my deleting my preset monitor folder. (Whatever that was, it wasn't my preset.) I can get to the exit and save settings button now. Is this going to be happening often?
  9. I updtated my DCS today to DCS 2.8.2.35632 Open Beta Then my screen was as you see in the images below. My settings were fine when I did some single player yesterday. How do I fix this? and what happened?
  10. AIN (Arrorian Imperial Navy), is open to everyone. We're about 60% military veterans, a few IT guys, and a random mix of others. We offer training to new sim pilots, a play to hang out and shoot the breeze with buddies. Since we have people all over the world, there's almost always someone available to fly with. We host events, play multiplayer, training, and all the rest. The name comes from a Scifi series, as a space navy. And if you play online you may have seen someone in the same server with the "ALIEN" tag on their name. if you are struggling with learning a module, there's someone in our squadron who can answer your questions. here's a link to our discord, we'll see you in the skies. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn
  11. For anyone else reading this post, Rudder Axis often need to be inverted in DCS. I've use the TM16000, Virpil Ace, and MFG Crosswinds (my current) all need inverting.
  12. badger7966, You're welcome to come and fly with AIN. (Arrorian Imperial Navy) Were pretty laid back. We offer training for whoever. Core group is about 60% veterans, plus a few IR pros and random other people. We can play serious when we need to, but we mostly just try and have a good time. There is the occasional burst of profanity, as these things happen. Were got people who fly everything, warbirds, helos, jets, and all that. Basically, if you have a question about DCS, there's someone in our squadron who can answer it in short order. We welcome everyone, but not everyone fits in. Oh, and we have people all over the world, Including North America, Europe, Asia, and sometimes Australia. Here's the link to our discord if you'd like to check us out. If not, well, good luck in your search and we'll see you in the skies. https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn
  13. Like the rest of you, I try and dig up anything I can find on some airplane. I don't have an extensive list. However, Here are a couple of Ok videos and books. The pilots flight manaul from Amazon. (I like printed copies of stuff.) F-4 Phantom II Pilot's Flight Operating Manual: Navy, United States, Aircraft, McDonnell: 9781935700418: Amazon.com: Books I haven't read this one yet, but it's high on my list. as the author flew both the F4 and the A10, I can imagine there are a wide number of DCS sim pilots who will find it interesting. Amazon.com: From F-4 Phantom to A-10 Warthog: Memoirs of a Cold War Fighter Pilot eBook : Ladd, Steve: Kindle Store Hope you all find those interesting.
  14. A couple things. First, if you're flying the F/A-18, stick with it. Learning is a process, not an instant result. Spending time with the avionics of one jet, things will start to make sense. There is the early access guide for the Hornet, you can find in in your F/A-18 module folder of your main game files or download it directly from the DCS website. ("Downloads") Documentation (digitalcombatsimulator.com) Here is the link to the Chuck's guide, a must have reference for any sim pilot. https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/fa-18c/ The NATPOS for the F/A-18 is also publicly available. Just google it. I don't want to get dinged for putting a too recent NATPOS in here, but they're easy to find. You can even get a printed version on Amazon if I recall. Every aircraft is different in DCS. They all have different systems, weapons, and performance. A good Hornet driver can do just about anything. Just like a Good Viper driver, etc. The more time you spend with the airframe, the more comfortable you'll be with it. I give ED a fair bit of stick from time to time, but there is nothing in the sim world that compares to how detailed these modules are. NOUTHING. So you're not going to figure everything out about the hornet (or any aircraft) in a day, or week, etc. For every system, there's usually a subsystem, and several different functions for each. For example, you can bomb in CCRP, CCIP, Manual modes. You bomb an offset, a target waypoint, or drop on a buddy laser. You have high drag bombs, low drag bombs, etc. I personally know some very knowledgeable hornet drivers in DCS. None of them can use every single system on the jet to an expert level. (Because really, how many of us practice getting bombs on target with manual bombing in the hornet? No many I imagine) Personally I have more than a few hours in the hornet, I still look stuff up, I don't have the entire HARM table committed to memory. (But who does SEAD in the Hornet if they own a Viper with the HTS?) Point is, you'll need to put in the time on the module to learn it. The best advice I can give you is to find someone to fly with. Learning any jet in DCS all alone is a pain. It takes at least twice as long as opposed to having a buddy, wingman, or half competent instructor. Anyone to ask questions too, discuss problems, etc. What I tell everyone, with every module, is learn the Navigation system first. Warplanes (and warships, and soldiers,) all depend on navigation to perform their mission. Learn how to make a waypoint. Learn how to input MGRS coordinates, and Lat/ Long precise coordinates into the jet. Learn how to make a mark point. Once you know that, everything else starts to make sense. Next, learn how the targeting pods work. Learn how to slave your tgp to a waypoint or target, or how to make a mark point with the tgp. Once you can do all that, all the weapons systems just fall into place, because they all depend on the navigation system. (don't' forget to learn how radio navigation & TACAN works, because you'll need to find your way back to the boat somehow). After learning Navigation and Radio Navigation and the targeting pods, learn how your radar works. When you're ready to move onto weapons, start with one and use it in every way possible until you know it and can use it in any mode. Drop Mk82s in Auto, CCIP (manual if you are into that...) Drop them on a target from the targeting pod, or a waypoint. Drop Mk82Y (air ballute) bombs in high drag, low drag, auto and CCIP. (Again, and manual if you want) Use the AIM-120 in RWS, TWS multitarget, and in dogfight modes. Use the AIIM-7 in STT, loft, and helo modes. Use the AIM-9 with your helmet, without it, and with the radar. During all this training, fly formation with a tanker or an AWACS whenever you find one, and soon you'll be plugging into the tanker all the time to top off with gas. Since you learned Navigation first, the JDAM and GPS guided weapons will come easily, because it's just plugging in coordinates or using TOO (target of opportunity) mode with the helmet, radar, or targeting pod. Navigation, Targeting Pods, Radar, Helmet, Jettison, Emergency Jettison, Dump weapons, laser guided weapons, IR weapons, GPS weapons, SEAD, A2A weapons, Aerial Refueling, and Datalink weapons. (Walleye, SLAM / SLAM-ER) Make yourself a checklist of one thing to learn per day. learn it and do it until it comes naturally. Then do the next thing. Each progressive step will make better sense because you already learned something else about the jet. Now, on the F16. Don't' fly it. Not because it's not good, it is. Don't fly it because it's an air force jet and you've already started learning the "Navy" way. Every nation or military which builds or buys an airplane puts their own "flavor" into it. Airforce does things one way, navy another, the French... Yeah, each have their own flavor. When the Mirage F1 came out, it was fairly easy for me to figure out, because I already had a bit of time in the M2000, and those real jets were made by the same company / nation. I learned the F-16 after I learned the F/A-18 and Tomcat, I still am annoyed with the F16 and A10 just because I like "navy" and air force jets work differently. You've already started on the F/A-18, stick with it. All that being said, in my experience the JF-17 is the most straight forward modern jet. Everything has one function. No long press, short press, just make something sensor of interest and go to work. Granted there are some big limitations to what the JF-17 can do, doesn't carry much gas for example, the gun might as well not be in the jet, but what it does, it does well and in a straightforward manner. Good luck on your learning process. Feel free to message me if you have any questions, I may be able to answer. I'm Dscross#3705 on discord, or message me here.
  15. Gentlemen, Here's a link to AIN's discord. We do training, multiplayer, events, and all that. There are people on all the time to fly with. We have documents, manuals and information on each airframe as a resource. Bunch of us are former military (not just USA). You're both welcome to come by and fly with us. 16. Oh they do cripple frame rates. My squadron has done drops with the Nucs on the MiG-21. It's a server crasher. But having training bombs for the B61 might at least allow some leeway for the more sim focused squadron and people, without ED having to let this particular cat out of the bag. I know there's lots of people who REALLY, REALLY want the B61 for the Hornet, Viper and other "WIP" modules. This seemed like a compromise solution to me. Anyone from ED want to weigh in on this?
  17. I know there is a thing about nuclear weapons in DCS. I know Ed has stated flat out, no more nucs. I think I have a compromise. What about practice bombs. I was talking in my squadron about this, and honestly having practice B61's for US aircraft would at least slightly solve this issue. Some people really want them, because the jets really can carry them. Pilots need to train with them, (real life) and the aircraft need to be tested to ensure clean separation with the weapon. As a practice B61 could be skinned to look real, and won't crash servers since it doesn't blow up, I think this might be a nice compromise solution. Practice bombs for the B61? anyone?
  18. kingeider kingeider, I have a almost nonfunctional left leg, I have some understanding of how much of a struggle the controls can be sometimes. (I still fly with rudder pedals) I do fly the tomcat a lot. I use DLC on every landing. But... I don't always use the adjustment. Often I simply turn DLC on, try and fly a clean approach and 90% of the time that seems to work fine. The Tomcat has a lifting body, and the airframe itself generates about 60% of the lift for the aircraft. It wants to float. DLC spoils some of that lift, enabling you to get the big bird on the ground safely. If you're a little high, DLC fully out, low, all in. The Tomcat has flaps, DLC, speed brake, and wing sweep all to help you lose enough lift to land, or to maneuver. Now, when' you're landing on the boat, there is a draft of wind coming off the ship, the island, and if done correctly, the carrier should be steaming into the wind. Right as you get close to the boat, the airplane gets a big bonus on lift from all that wind, resulting in the airplane floating and a bolter. Even if you're perfectly on the approach path that burble near the boat will mess you up, and that's the time to slap that DLC out fully to counteract that wind and lose just a little bit of wind. I personally use the Virpil throttle, and I bind my DLC axis to the radar elevation axis on the front of the right throttle handle. But, depending on where your hands are, and how far or how little you can reach there might be a better option. Also it seemed from your post that you are holding the "DLC activate/ countermeasures" button. This shouldn't be necessary. Activate, then all you need to do it move the slider to bring the DLC in and out. Or course remember that DLC won't come out until your gear and flaps are down. My personal order is "Gear down below 200" then when they're down and locked, "Flaps out below 180" then DLC active when flaps come down. Then I try and maintain on speed with the throttle and pop out the airbrakes. Set her down on the mains without flare, (remember antiskid ON for runway's "OFF" for the boat") I roll out on the runway until below 90, then pull the airbrake in, gently apply the brakes, pull the flaps up, and fold in the wings just as I'm turning off the active runway. I just moved my hand around my virple throttle, contemplating. I can turn the rotary knob on the far outside left of the throttle with my palm while still moving the throttle back and forth. Perhaps binding the DLC to that rotary might be helpful? (Just and idea, I don't know what movements are harder or easier for you.) I hope this helps you. Don't hesitate to message me if there's anything else I can help with or questions I can answer. Message me here or on discord (Dscross#3705). https://discord.gg/JuBydbsfDn Here's an invite link to my squadron. we've got a few banged up old guys and we'll pass on any knowledge we have. You'r welcome to drop by and fly with us, ask questions, or whatever. See you in the skies
  19. I can't seem to bind "TEL" positions after a recent update. original I could bind all three positions. But now I get a flag on one and I can't clear it. I'm including a screenshot. If anyone has an idea please let me know. Thanks. (Yes before we go through all the obvious and pointless replies, I've cleared it, checked modifiers, and all that.)
  20. I believe you. I've tried to put it on three computers, never works. I've gone through their FAQ, help, all that. Nothing. goes unresponsive every time I open it. It sucks, because it looks really cool, it would be super helpful, but no dice.
  21. I know all this. I'm not new to the tomcat. And Tacview is garbage and crashes on every computer I've ever bothered to loaded it on, and it's pay ware. I'm not paying for something that crashes whenever opened on any computer I've used. Sure, looks great from what I've seen on various YouTube videos, but I'm not paying for it. If it worked, that might be different, but it doesn't. And As I'm sure you know, track files with the tomcat are broken. I've never gotten a single F14 track file to work.
  22. In a recent update we got the ability as mission makers to give tanks a specific load of ammunition. Personally, I'm hoping that we get the same thing for ships. being able to choose the payload of a Mk41 VLS would be pretty handy. As for the ships, another thing you can do is set the range at which the ships fire, something like 10% on the Tico or Arleigh Burke still gives the ships a formattable air defense system. You can also use mission editor to "tune" things a little. For example, make your plane "invisible" but put it in a really big trigger zone and then put in a trigger with a switch condition so that if you fly over, say 500 feet, "invisible off" (under trigged actions.) You can hook "invisible off" to all sorts of triggers, such as altitude, airspeed, zone, or who knows what. If you're not worried about the ship shooting you, lets say your in a hornet shooting Harpoons as 60+ miles, you can put a trigger zone around the ship. Then put "missile in zone, flag on" and pick the harpoon. then go "if flag true, unit emission off" (unit is ship). There are lots of ways to tune ships air defenseand depending on the mission you might need to use some or all of them. Good luck.
  23. I have repaired, twice. It isn't my PC problem, there is something wrong with Jester.
  24. I looked at the link. I found one post, after much digging that had the F15 E flight manual. It was spam links to... well, I didn't find a F15E manual. I've found one from some company in new Zealand, but it's pay ware. (I found it elsewhere) so if anyone has a valid link to an F15E manual, that doesn't lead to pornography, that'd be great.
