  1. the historical records vs. what ED can simulate are two separate things it seems I read that P47 engine could run for ~10 mins with no oil. In-game such a scenario gives you about 1-2 minutes tops. However, DCS A8 can chug along with no oil (no more oil leaking out, oil pressure on 0) for about 15-17 minutes. Go figure.
  2. it's a bug. If you overspeed the turbo the light on the dashboard comes on and the engine dies immediately (its starts grinding and stops within 30 seconds). P47 "engine degraded" situation arises after you stop using water/full power, and in my observed cases it happens 10 to 30 minutes later (happened to me on the ground when I landed), not during the full power use. It's a bug.
  3. wow, this is awesome news! The release of La7 will surely supply the much needed blood infusion for the WW2 scene in DCS. Can't wait!
  4. As far as "low graphics preset" for Normandy: it may be due to the fact you have a Normandy 1 map only. The updated version of Normandy (Normandy v2) requires a paid upgrade (~$14, I believe), it will unlock the high level detail in the map. I hear ya, go where your heart takes you I've played Il2Box for 4 years prior to diving into DCS, and even though IL2 has a lot more 'battlefield' content I grew tired of it once I learned all 'gaming' aspects of the sim, and wanted something a bit more challenging as far as the flight model/system damage goes. DCS fills that niche quite nicely. The DCS sound design alone (true engine and weapon sound recordings, directional sound design, etc) is levels higher than the other sims with their synthetic sound engines.
  5. rgr, thank you!
  6. I feel your pain, indeed there's much to be desired in the novice ww2 content in DCS. Whenever you raise the topic with the ed's bigwigs their response is always: "ww2 team is small. DCS is a sand-box simulator", which means "figure it out, it's your problem". Luckily, the ww2 community is very engaging and are ready to help you with your questions in module learning, their operation, and there are a lot of folks that have an in-depth knowledge of historical mission aspects of our ww2 aircraft. For missions, I recommend you browse through the user created mission files in the below link. It'll show you single mission files for P51, and you can modify the filter (change the Unit filter) to see the missions for other airplanes: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/type-is-single/unit-is-p-51d/apply/ salute! edit: once you're done with the single player missions, you can always load into Multiplayer servers and try it out there. There are plenty of 'training' servers available, so don't worry about running into some hotshots ruining your experience.
  7. yup, the DLSSswapper does all the renaming/replacing for you... Tweaker/Inspector are two apps that do a similar thing, I believe. I personally used NVidia Inspector for the profile config. edit: dlssswapper works for Steam DCS only.
  8. you need this thingie: https://github.com/xHybred/NvidiaProfileInspectorRevamped/releases/tag/v3.0 - unpack NV-Profile-Inspector-Revamped - run the .exe in it - in the application top "profiles" search for "digital combat... ", make sure you find digital combat simulator in the profiles list and click on it - Scroll down to section 5, and select profile J per screenshot below: null
  9. how's the K preset with spotting when used with DLSS Quality? Is it squashing the dots like J?
  10. Can you fly without a rudder? Sure. Will you be able to perform complicated maneuvers seen in videos? Nopes. But you can always start with a joystick that has a twist axis, it'll emulate the rudder enough to understand that there's something there and will keep you interested in pursuing the goal of getting the actual pedals. But a twist axis itself is a poor substitute for the actual pedals simply because you're trying to maneuver in 3 axis using only one hand (pitch/roll/rudder). In short: there has never been a case where a player bought themselves some great rudder pedal and then painfully regretted the purchase. You'll only regret it if you buy some crap, like the 'slider' pedals from Thrustmaster TFRP. Look for the pedals with a cantilever mechanism, they are more expensive but are definitely worth their price.
  11. yup, I guess it's for people who just simply can't wait!
  12. unfortunately, not really. I've installed the latest Nvidia 4090 driver (for Win10), the behavior hasn't changed. The clarity of dlss 4.0 is amazing though (I'm running Quality), so it outweighs the tracers issue... not ideal but DCS is all about compromises, so business as usual. edit: apparently there's an early access Nvidia driver 571.96, trying to find it now.. I'm definitely not using it right now.. edit1: youtube vid explaining how to get the driver
  13. oops, my bad, ... here's another link: https://github.com/enertial/streamdeck-dcs-interface
  14. sry, wrong product..
  15. I think you need to rename/modify your first post that you're using some 3rd party solution (I still don't understand what it is) to send controller commands into DCS and it's not working. Otherwise you're confusing people thinking it's the module's fault. It's not.
  16. it definitely looks crisper, less of a wash out. But it also affected the ground tracers (from ships for example), the tracers alternate between 'thick' and 'thin' state, and the close you get to them the 'thinner' they become and almost invisible, so bombing ships for example (in ww2) is very dicey now without seeing the tracers at all ...
  17. something is up with your install. I never had any problems with either machine guns, or cannons, or arming switches on A8. They always work. It's very surprising to hear about your experience.
  18. the annoying part with the 'unlimited weapons' setting is the rockets don't get reloaded instantly, there's some time delay, around 60 or 120 seconds... It'd be nice if the "unlimited" weapon setting was without reloading.
  19. yeah, D9's engine is pretty finicky and buggy. It operates at the maximum allowed temperature for the maximum power efficiency, and it seems the damage modeling for it is unforgiving. When you played with the thermostat knob you've closed the automatic radiator cowling, which led to the immediate temperature increase, and after a few seconds the damage to the engine is irreversible. Just don't play with it, or be sure when you're playing with it you're actually opening the cowling and not closing (sometimes it's useful if your engine water jacket got a bullet hole and you need to extend the life of the dying engine).
  20. gotcha, maybe it was a left-click, it's been a while since I played with ME, but I distinctly remember there's a direct way to interact with those 'boxes' without using the below presets. Anyhow, it seems you've figured it out anyway, so cheers to that!
  21. to fire rockets you use the same button as the bomb drop, however you must have the rocket arm switch in ON position (left switch below) null
  22. you can equip the bird with the rockets by right-clicking in the middle of box 3 and 1: To fire cannons/guns: - turn on the master arm, wing arm (top left of the dashboard), there are 2 switches - flip the safety cover on the stick null
  23. the current damage model for the ww2 locomotives is wacky. The locomotives continues to release a steam stack even after it's been completely destroyed, requiring very close passes to confirm if it's dead or not..
  24. I had a "engine degraded" failure couple of days ago, and that was already on the ground after landing. I've used water injection prior to that for maybe 45-60 seconds, all engine temps were within their limits. Sounds like the issue may still be there...
  25. there was a technique the ww2 fighters used when traversing the combat zone: weaving. And they did it continuously. Anyway, I've beaten this horse to death, at least I have. My point is, ED never paid attention to any inferred evidence when talking about a specific technicality. Your claims lack some basic evidence, i.e. a reference material from the appropriate timeframe, or represented by the appropriate timeframe materials presented within the current timeframe. If you don't have those then it's very difficult to get everyone on board with your ideas, especially ED. Happy flying!
