  1. Drama: The Deerhunter. numero uno of all time! Sci Fi: Aliens (mind the 's') Adventure: Raiders of the Lost Ark Horror: Nightmare on Elm Street (dream warriors) Comedy: Airplane! and' Fargo'.... and 'The Big Lebowski' can't decide which is 'best'. Touchy-Feely: As Good as it Gets Most atrocious movie eva!: Any Given Sunday (wow, what a stinker. I left after 15 minutes. 15 minutes too late)
  2. THAT, my friend, is the grand-daddy of sims. The Queen of the Virtual Skies, the pinnacle of programming excellence.... FLANKERRRRR... 1.0 :D
  3. Ah, yes... I miss it too. :D
  4. Art-J, Are you sure the thrust lever was at idle? Adjusting the power _after_ blacking out might not actually work... like in real life. ;)
  5. I think you're mistaken. The complaining won't stop (even after release) and will just sour the mood around here. It only takes a few to spoil the anticipation... Let them take the time to release a working product.
  6. Also, you can surf to http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com. Login with your credentials and select 'User Files'. Use the filter 'Device Profiles'... Hey Presto!
  7. I can't wait to see screenshots featuring fog, rain and snow. I'm very excited about this aspect in particular. Having unlimited visibility is nice but things get really interesting when your target shows up at the last possible moment or having to struggle back home in CAT1 weather with one engine out and a nose-gear that won't extend :)
  8. I'd imagine it's one of those 'no-go areas' due to mil. restrictions. I do wonder if it can be approximated in LUA by a 3rd party somehow. Some script (attached to a vehicle) that prevents said vehicle from being detected. Would that be even possible? I know nothing about LUA...
  9. I'd agree with your first sentence, StrongHarm. However, I don't think 4K displays in smartphone size are cheap enough for a while. Also, you'd need a beefy system just to drive all those pixels at a minimum of 75fps. I'll most certainly buy a CV1 (or even a DK2 if I can't resist the urge any longer) but even that will not get us to a comfortable level performance wise...
  10. Re: DCS App I was happy to see ED trying to add to the experience by releasing this app. Unfortunately not useful to me as I'm on an MS Surface Pro. I realize I'm part of a small minority and so this doesn't come as a surprise. However, the lack of an Android app is a bit puzzling to me. I can only hope ED finds the time and money to develop a similar app for Android (and Windows) in the near future. The developer support for this fruit-company is annoying at best. Strange as the vast majority is not on that platform to begin with. Sorry, had to vent... Witchking... ED refers to it as 'our app' in the email.
  11. This!!! Even for the fast movers, there's a lot of fun to be had doing a 'Trench Run' through narrow canyons. I foresee another racing competition flying from A to B via a route through the mountains... just like we did back in '96(?) using Flanker 1.x. How far we've come. It is truly amazing what ED (and comp-tech in general)have accomplished in less than 2 decades...
  12. The room is cold for a purpose. They're overclocking a 286 to a whopping 33MHz. No need for a stinkin' watercooler!
  13. Don't know why MCT and 'Full Rated Thrust' is entering this discussion because it doesn't belong... Also, procedures vary among companies. Boeing recommends the captain assumes control of thrustlevers during take-off at all times. Setting of thrust is not necessary by either pilot as auto-throttle does it better/quicker after pressing the TOGA button. :-) Assumed Temp (or FLEX which is the same thing) for reasons stated previously.
  14. Technically speaking anything over 60kts. is considered a jetstream (high or low level). It's not possible to define a 'stream' in DCS as winds aloft are 'map-wide' and not confined within a 'corridor' though. Personally I couldn't care less about jetstreams in DCS. Other weather phenomena such as fog could do with extensive improvement in the sim. Hopefully EDGE will allow that...
  15. That stick mod is bitchin'! Take my moneeeeeey!
  16. Very happy with the Surface. The stylus is very handy and OneNote is the ultimate note-taking tool. But... Chivas...? Really? Jameson all the way, mate! :-)
  17. If you have a few Surface 3's lying around... would you consider sending me one? My Surface Pro (original) needs a companion :-) Great idea... I'll be testing this once I get my new desktop sometime in Jan.

  19. Flying at 10ft. is not realistic either, is it? ;-)
  20. Missed that quote... oh well... whatever it will be... it'll be great!
  21. My guess would be Harrier (AV-8B). I seem to remember them (Leatherneck) playing around with a VTOL Mig-21...
  22. Don't take my sentences out of context. I've re-read my posts and I stand by what I've said. Thanks.
  23. Guys... I don't deny that flaps increase drag and therefore allow a steeper decent angle. The point I'm making is that this is not the primary function of a flap which some of you seem to be thinking. The flap was not designed to allow a steeper approach angle. What would you do if you were established on approach, above the glideslope, with full flaps trying to re-intercept? We're talking F-86 here... not a Cessna...
  24. It's 'early days' yet and nothing is a known at his point. It does seem to put the tech sector on the head as far as augmented/virtual reality goes... Introducing 'Magic Leap'. This company has been operating under the radar and is close to revealing their gadget. Google is heavily invested (500mil) and they just ended a second round of capital building adding close to another 500mil from tech-heavies. Supposedly this is beyond anything anyone has ever seen. It sounds like snake-oil to me but Graeme Devine (ex DOOM fame) has joined the company including many other leading tech- people. Time to ditch DK2? :D
  25. Flaps are meant to increase Lift-coefficient thereby allowing to fly at a lower IAS and thus shortening the landing distance (amongst other things). It has absolutely nothing to do with 'angle of approach' (I assume you mean approach angle i.e. 3deg. glideslope). The fact that you may have better visibility over the nose is a byproduct and, again, has nothing to do with approach angle... Speedbrakes increase drag and thereby allowing you to descend at a steeper angle with equal speed or decrease speed at constant altitude.
