  1. MiG-21 radar shows clouds if you leave the weather filter off.
  2. The exact same thing we are doing now. Demanding Vietnam, Afghanistan and the Phantom.
  3. Not too much of a surprise there. BMS has its roots all the way in 1998, and while I'm no expert on BMS (only played Allied Force) they may or may not have changed the radar code. In DCS radar code simulates target RCS, ground, clouds and what have you, while the Falcon implementation could hardly account for all this all the way back then. Ditto the Trick While Scam target retention. I also had massive problems seeing, well, anything until I started to fiddle with the scan zone and elevation.
  4. I think it's not about the Hornet systems (you might try the Sparrow loft mode though), this has more to do with general tactics. First, in combat there's not much need to fly straight and level, you're not flying a tanker. You may want to gain some speed to throw your missile further and faster, but that's it. Second, there's hardly a case for launching as soon as you reach max range. The target only needs to move its nose a few degrees and it's completely safe. What does that give us? You can try flying at an angle towards the target while gaining speed and/or altitude until the target is at two thirds or even a half of the range between maximum range and no-escape zone. If you have datalink target support you don't even need to lock it until you fire, so just turn 90 degrees away from it and let it chase after you as you gain speed and altitude. When ready to fire turn toward target, tell your wingman to engage air targets (he always starts with the closest one so you should take the other guy), launch and start zig-zagging within radar gimbal limit, just don't pull too hard so as not to lose speed. That should bleed off the kinetic energy of the enemy missile heading your way (as you should assume it is once you reach your own max range, whether you have the RWR indication or not). If you had more speed and altitude than the target at the time of your launch you should have the advantage. And don't sweat, I've tried the Hornet 8v8 Caucasus instant action mission, like, 30 times already and survived only once (I do much better in other planes though). Generally air combat is as complex as it is fascinating, so feel free to take previous recommendations with a grain of salt, watch DCS Youtube channels and read the book called "Fighter Combat-Tactics and Maneuvering", available for download somewhere.
  5. 1. MiG-29A, S and G. 2. Yes, but only on the S version. 3. Sure, and the S version even has dual-target track.
  6. I fail to see the problem with that! If anything, that would prevent pilots from writing checks their RIO can't cash. This is a study-level sim, so it's safe to assume some studying is expected. And who would've thunk, radars in other planes work pretty much the same way, just a bit more automated.
  7. No problem with that either, only two azimuth/bar configurations to select from the menu in that case. Overall a great suggestion, would love to see that!
  8. I'm going to pretend my opinion represents the entire DCS community for a second and say that all these should stand in line after Vietnam and Afghanistan that have been requested since time immemorial. I understand that Marianas are free so we can't really complain, but with 3d party devs choosing to make a theatre as massively significant in military history as the Falklands over any of the above I just don't know what to say anymore. It's like they're throwing darts in the map, and when the dart hits Vietnam and Afghanistan they just pull it out and try again, as if consumer demand does not exist in this area.
  9. Shows for me as well, only in red while it used to be black. Don't know which is correct.
  10. I'd rather the drawing was generated dynamically based on user F10 map markers so that we could produce legit flight plans on our own the way we do with the F-14 Jester or the DTC on the Jeff. That would enable us to plan our flight with a few mouse clicks as opposed to tedious manual drawing while getting spawn-camped in multiplayer.
  11. That's exactly the case. Not exactly a mistake, but more of a shortcut to cut down on development time. See also a similar investigation into AI MiG-19.
  12. I can totally see how this mechanic would work in the A-6 module! One thing left to do is to be able to tell Iceman to fly straight and level to the designated ground target and pickle when appropriate since most of the necessary programming logic seems to be in place already. Speaking of logic, when does Jester start talking the pilot onto target after acquiring it? When I tried the Lantirn test mission yesterday he did talk me onto target and gave the countdown to pickle, but today he's having none of that. Are there some release criteria I'm not meeting? UPD: nailed it. After you start the mission the A/G Jester page says by default your laser bombs are selected... except they're not. What you need to do is to go to the ordnance menu and select the bombs. You will hear Jester flip some switches in the back, and gee, the pickle queue appears at the right side of Lantirn display and Jester starts calling the shots. The solution might be to modify the A/G scripting procedure to force the selection of default A/G weapons at the stage of preparing the Lantirn when the player presses the A/G master mode button, but if there are multiple A/G weapons on board things might get confusing.
  13. - Five seconds to target. Pickle! Five seconds to impact... FIRING MAH LAZERRR!
  14. Well, we do have Arstotzka and MGS liveries, so why not: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3318759/
  15. That and the currency exchange rate for fellow non-Amerians. Userpic checks out Steam contractually compels publishers to state the release date, but it says nowhere it can't be moved. It's basically a placeholder but generally ED do try to estimate it. Probably sooner than that.
  16. Well, it's only a second's worth of thrust, and having as many sticks as the opposition kinda matters. And the ignition pauses even if you launch from outer pylons, so not much of a difference.
  17. Combined Arms players: - Brace yourselves...©
  18. Unless they are some of the oldest DCS modules around, namely the Shark and Su-25T. The BS3 that we're getting is even less than that, it's a project of further development of original prototypes. They were going to make this but added a two-seat glass cockpit and a radar and called it a Ka-52 Alligator while the prototype that we're going to have has never left the drawing board. I get it, it's a tight situation of having to choose between making something or not making anything at all because of Russian legislation, but that's not to say I would say no to interesting designs that could have been and that do, in fact, have some basis in reality. And what I wouldn't give to fly Su-47 and MiG-1.44, at least in a game...
  19. No, because if you catch 5 wire he will be silently shaking his head in disbelief
  20. Yes, the autopilot yaw channel. Originally it turned itself off when you touched the pedals, now it only disengages temporarily.
  21. It appears the RWR is after-market as well, seeing how in Caucasus 2v2 Instant Action mission the wingman reports nails from 12 o'clock. The original MiG-19 RWR only reported emissions from the rear not unlike the P-51 rear view radar (except it worked in reverse ofc), and the Mig-19P proper didn't have even that.
  23. Well, now you know why folks make such a big deal out of it for the Hornet, the Viper and whatnot. Especially in multiplayer there's a difference between clicking your mouse a few times and typing in every digit for every waypoint yourself. While we're at it, in the Tomcat you can order Jester to make waypoints out of your F10 points. You still have to tell him what's what but he'll be the one doing the typing while you tend to other things.
  24. That's basically the whole point. You can make your own waypoints on the F10 map, tell the chief to update the cartridge, then load it and your waypoints will be right there.
