I humbly request the Calipso livery. In 2001-2002 in Sierra-Leone this chopper has been flying over the Atlantic ocean, something went wrong and the chopper went for a little drink, then pulled up and carried on like nothing happened Photos and story (in Russian) here: https://www.yaplakal.com/forum2/topic334149.html

New F14 Pilot - Takeoff and Landing Questions
WarbossPetross replied to gav88888's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
See above. Also the red lights next to the gear and the arrestor hook handles indicate that the gear/hook is in transit. Once it reaches the end position and locks in place the light goes off. -
Took the Croc out yesterday after a break and noticed that the rudder trim aka yaw stab does not turn off when I touch the pedals. I mean it does disengage (when the yellow lamp is on), but then it stays on while earlier it just turned itself off. I can't tell you how much easier it is to land now because the rudder trim cancels out the yaw momentum that occurs when you move the collective. Another tip for landing is to keep an eye on the Doppler VVI instead of the stand-alone one you normally look at. It's fine in regular flight, but when you're low and slow enough for the DISS indicator to kick in, the arching scale to the left of the drift needles shows your vertical velocity as measured by the DISS which is a lot more accurate and responsive than the regular VVI.

I confirm, wasn't flying the MiG for some time so not sure if it was there before, but it's definitely the case now. I'm on open beta.

AFAIK we're getting the 9-12 home version. As for nerfing airframes to balance the multiplayer, I have yet to see any evidence whatsoever of ED doing this at any point. I get what you're saying, but this one is on the players and server hosts more than anyone else. The problem is that the MiG that Russian law allows us to have is from 1983 while our existing F-16C and F/A-18C have a decade's worth of avionics over it (and upcoming Typhoon and F-15E will only make it worse). On the other hand the earlier Cold War has a much closer match-up. That's why a lot of people are advocating for more airframes from Vietnam general timeline that are not classified anymore, so that we can finally balance apples by apples and have a ball.

That would be quite a stretch in more ways than one, so I'd rather have a separate Balkans map (I did enjoy that in that other F-16 simulation). That said, I would like to extend the Caucasus map to include Chechnya and Dagestan so that we could recreate the absolute Warhammer that was taking place there for fifteen years straight, seeing how we have a map of a territory on which a single shot wasn't fired in military action.

I'm using the term "CDU" from the A-10 because I don't know the first thing about the Apache, so feel free to correct me. The ABCD keyboard with a screen that functions loosely similar to the Tomcat CAP panel. What I'm asking for is the ability to temporarily OVERRIDE the hot key input when using that in-game keyboard so we can press A on our hardware keyboard to enter A, press B to enter B etc. We have this binding override implemented to an extent with the Petrovich menu in Mi-24, but here we have a whole keyboard to work with. I would also like for this solution to be extended to the A-10 seeing how the two systems appear to be quite similar. I don't know much about the A-10 either, so if it's already implemented in some way feel free to educate me some more.

I would like to add for posterity that you should also calibrate the altimeter with the value they tell you when you request landing on the carrier. Don't know about other DCS modules but the Tomcat in particular can't tell land from water. Its radar altimeter shows the distance to the seabed, not the surface, as it was the case IRL, kind of a big deal when you can't tell how high you are at a glance.

Missing scale on the radar screen in the day mode
WarbossPetross replied to Magot's topic in Bug Reports
So it's not just me then, I noticed this last week, before the last update. -
There's a switch in F-16 above the Master Arm and Laser Arm switches with RF Norm, Quiet and Silent positions that does exactly that. Norm is norm, Quiet allows emissions from the radar, TACAN and datalink, and Silent disables all the things, radio altimeter and ECM included. So you can say it's pretty much programmed already. You can manually enable and disable the radar on the Hornet with a knob under your right elbow but that's pretty much it AFAIK.

After 25+ years of gaming I can't believe I'm saying this, but we have arrived at the point where we can use IRL documents for some aspects of a computer simulation. And you don't exactly need to leave your chair to get these. I mean, they are used to model the whole thing in the game in the first place, so except for the parts that have not been simulated they pretty much qualify. ROBOFIGHTER has been doing Lord's own work, for instance, collecting so much stuff right here in one place: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/type-is-document/user-is-ROBOFIGHTER/apply/?PER_PAGE=100

So is petrovich going to get some form of tooltips?
WarbossPetross replied to sandcat's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Well, except for calling out targets that's what they all are - interfaces to do things that you cannot do from where you're sitting, which is essential if we will ever get a full-fidelity T-72 module (ah, the dreams ). The Jester command wheel is so complex only because he needs to do so many things. Compare that to the Iceman command wheel, it's much more simple, though I think ED approach to the pilot control interface is a bit more intuitive than what Iceman currently has. Although I do appreciate the nav-point navigation, exact course/speed/altitude input and the ability to orbit, I could really use the Petrovich interactive command wheel when I do BVR from the back seat. Perhaps if ED introduces the Petrovich code to the core codebase other devs (HB included) could use that in their own modules, that would be great. -

Place your bets, gentlemen -
correct as is Autopilot Channel for Altitude, wrong behavior
WarbossPetross replied to Schlomo1933's topic in Bugs and Problems
The official manual for Ka-50 says the collective brake temporarily disengages the Alt Hold mode in order to set the new reference altitude, i.e. much the same as the cyclic trim function, only difference being that the cyclic trim actually works as intended. I guess this is the function of the codebase inherited by all other choppers all the way from Ka-50. Won't be surprised if the Apache won't have it as well. -

At this point the release in DCS is probably the only area the EF hasn't beat F-15E in yet... ...ducks for cover... -
Oh, I'm not saying it should not be compatible with KJ-2000, I'm just trying to make sense of why things are the way they are. Obviously we are not exactly spoiled with Redfor aircraft, so whatever works at this point. It seems to work with Russian early warning systems though if things weren't complicated enough already.

Anti-NATO is more or less CSTO which must be what you're referring to since China and Pakistan are not in CSTO but they are in SCO. SCO is more general purpose while CSTO explicitly focuses on security. As for the datalink, JF-17 is intended for Pakistan to replace F-16, so it makes sense why it's compliant with the F-16 (i.e. American) systems. As far as I understand China has little interest in FC-1 which probably explains the situation.

Don't know much about Hellfires (though looking forward to finding out!), but if ED actually goes through with in-game heat rendering or such Mi-24 will have what can amount to IR Mavericks. I'm talking about R-60 air-to-air missiles that were used in Afghanistan to detect and destroy vehicles at night (I do wonder how they were navigating at night to do that in the first place). Not as intended, not by the book by any means, but that's just one stunt folks in 40th Army have been pulling to fulfil their orders and, you know, survive. Other shenanigans include welding a 2B9 gun-mortar to any vehicle that could carry it (which are many) to hit the enemy occupying high ground above BMP gun gimbal limit and taking a particularly accurate laser-rangefinder from a SU-25 and mounting it on a ground vehicle to designate targets for other planes. The latter is actually depicted at a Soviet Military Power illustration, though I doubt they knew what they were describing (would love to read the article though).

Yeah, maybe in a decade or two. And in the meantime let's hope someone makes some skins for the Apache...

Does anyone know where does the all-blue colour scheme for the vector map come from? Is it officially used on JF-17 IRL or something? Asking because I would rather use that but it's virtually illegible for me.

mosquito now in free trial Trial License?
WarbossPetross replied to Kilted_Kerbal's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
I don't know about you guys but in DCS terms I'm legally blind. I have no TrackIR, no VR, no trim hat on my 4-button joystick straight from the 90's that I bought for $5. The only way I can look around is the numpad. I more or less manage in more modern modules thanks to radars, HSI, datalink and whatnot, but I guess you can see how that would work with warbirds. That's why it's so important for me to try before I buy something I won't get any fun out of. Then again, ED did say they are interested in making a cargo plane, and they have just released an aircraft with a bomb bay. A guy can dream -
What I think he means is the chassis configuration. It's an entry level training plane first and foremost, so there is little point in making it a taildragger because 95% of cadets won't ever deal with one.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but they really need to implement wheel chocks on all the airframes STARTING with those that do not have the parking brake. My main issue is with prop planes because you actually have to warm up your engine at a certain RPM unless you want it to seize up right after you leave ground, and with I-16, Yak-52 and German props that involves holding the W key throughout all that time. Especially fun in multiplayer where there is no time compression.
