Here's something to give you an idea just what you got yourself into

I think they are too busy pushing the Corsair out and all MiG-related affairs have been put on hold until the general module overhaul that comes after the Corsair.

F-4E Phantom Phamiliarisation (whilst we wait for DCS..)
WarbossPetross replied to Karon's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Basically any radar can achieve a track in any scenario, the question is what distance it's going to be when it gets a contrast return. Which is probably going to be at a BFM range when you can see the target with your eyes, but it can still be useful when you can't see much at all, for example at night. -
F-4E Phantom Development Report - DCS Newsletter 31/03/2023
WarbossPetross replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Not in a study-level sim that rides on the premise of making it as real as possible. I agree these upgrades were made for a reason IRL, but we're here for the exact things our metaphorical grandpas were using because that's all they had. And yes, I'm still waiting for MiG-21 PFM that actually did rounds in Vietnam. -
Even with the engines off? Like, they insist on an official audio record?
-
TBF there ain't much to do with the search radar and missiles on our MiG-19 except to turn them on and off

Long requested, not a desert but with a lot of sand? I'm going to say... Afghanistan!

SU-57 Felon EFM Build
WarbossPetross replied to cubanace's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Pretty much. There are no external hard-points on most pictures but I've read a report that one airframe from the recent batch has them. I guess this kind of inconsistency comes with limited production numbers and much less limited price of modern machines. AFAIK there's no standard EF Typhoon either, so HB is essentially modelling a fantasy plane that has capabilities of several real planes. I guess you have the right (and not much choice, really ) to go the same route. -

EA 20th July Or July 2023 - From the Official Cold Start Video
WarbossPetross replied to AhSoul's topic in F-15E
Yeah, two months and how many years before that? Is anyone still keeping count? Well, it's billed as free-to-play, so ackchyually technically for some certain people... -
Is it though? My understanding is that if you enable INS+GPS setting the INS gets regular updates. Now I don't know how frequent these updates are so some drift can be expected between them, but if the update rate is once per second or more there shouldn't be any drift that you could notice.

Apparently yes. Apparently paying for beta access (which is exactly what it will be anyway - a beta version with full release way off) is not good enough since you, me or, like, 98% of people here do not belong to some more-equal-then-others group called content creators (because my highly subjective personal impression is there's a lot more people making DCS videos than people making F-15E videos right now). How would an outsider get into that group? Maybe pay some more for the product already paid for? Have they even paid for it at all? Are we going to see MiG-23 get a similar treatment? Place your bets, gentlemen!
-
We do, it's just that they're small and moving
-
The Tomcat also has a panel at the back seat with lamps indicating orders from command that are sent over the datalink. And yes, none of the above would work until we have a dynamic campaign engine and an actual, functional ATC that understands what's going on and gives us informed orders.
-
Just had to squeeze that one in, now could you?!
-
Well, well, what do you know. I guess the race to release between the F-4E and F-15E is about to have another very close contender
-
This is great! Would be better if you did things a little slower, the process looks a bit rushed. And I do hope you do the sound justice because the real thing induces serial eargasms pretty much like the P-47 and der Messer at the same time! At 1:10 you can even hear the supercharger!

Announcing the F-4 Phantom for DCS World!
WarbossPetross replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
And what about radar bombing? The teen series have a ground radar that more or less allows them to operate without the targeting pod. Do these planes have something similar or maybe it's just basic terrain avoidance stuff like, say, on the A-4E mod? -

I think I have some idea of what to expect in the A-A department, but I have no clue about the A-G. Can you tell me the difference in A-G capabilities between the Phantom, A-6 and A-7 that we're getting? Like, in gameplay terms? -
The sound is updated already and there's some talk of giving the Spit, the Mustang and the German fighters a graphics update, particularly for the cockpit (P-47 and the Mossie have much better looking cockpits ATM). As for a German bomber I vote Ju-88 for versatility, production numbers and widespread use (not many Bf.110 to be seen on the Eastern front for example).

I always wondered if there can be some cooperation between developers concerning identical systems in different aircraft. Can't imagine the TACAN selector or the red X-shaped radio channel selector thingy are that much different in different modules. I get that everyone has their own codebase, 3D-modelling and whatnot, but the very least they could do is agree on the basic functionality.
