  1. First I would like Apologies to the Urga team. It seems that the View distance is not a unique issue with the Syria map, but something that has changed in the core. As I now see the same in Caucasus map. BigNewy, i dont have a track currently but I have a few videos that show the issue quite clearly. For me at lease, oil tankets (not shown in these vids) behave just like trees. The sprout out of the ocean in point blank range and shrink back to nothing when I move away I usually have view distance at medium, i bumped it to high before taking these vids. In medium it was even worst. Also, I'm using VR (in case someone missed that :))
  2. it's not just oil tankers :( View distance behavior of the map is abysmal. you fly along the coastline at a short distance and the coastline is empty. you fly above 15Kft, and you see nothing on the ground. only when you start a dive and go below 12kft static objects start to sprout. (buildings, trees, roads). it makes CCIP dive bombing very hard, as you can't actually see the building you want to attack until you are in the dive already. trees magicly sprout (like the Oiltankers) at a very un-realistic short distance. I'm sure these are all measures to mitigate some FPS issues. But common. that makes no sense except for helicopter only simulator. which is why I suspect all the map previews where in helicopters and one low-level all the way F-16 vid.

Old SA-3 launchers only had 2 missiles, not 4. the 4 missiles per launcher came later to the export variants then they came to the Soviet AD. attached a photo of SA-3 from Vietnam circa 72. however SyAD almost always utilized SA-2 sites for SA-3 and SA-6 as well. they also always have a reload vehicle. like you can see in the 3 o'clock and 11 o'clock dugouts in the photo you have provided :) http://forums.eagle.ru:8080/showpost.php?p=1998351&postcount=6
  4. A friend sent me his task manager readings. Seems that the Syria terrain is filling up all the VRAM (he has 1080TI). So there is probably a lot of swapping between VRAM and system.memory which hits performance. With Low texture, less VRAM is used per texture and performance should be much better.
  5. Hi pikey. Thanks, I'll check it soon. However i've noticed a few errors in your writeup. Sa-6 is typically 4 launchers and 1 STR either in a square or in half hex around the STR. SA-3 are typically 4 Launchers around a low blow, with p19 as SR SA-2 is indeed 6 launchers around the FanSong in a hex.

  9. for the F-18D and F-15E, you can operate everything from the front cockpit. so IRL, WSO is there to share the workload on complex missions where the PLT can focus on flying the jet. so the "jester-like" functionality will probably won't be required in DCS. the F-4 is a different beast. Like the F-14, the radar is operated by the RIO only. which will require some functionality, and the human RIO will have a workload like it has in the F-14. (in addition to some extra AG stuff like MITL weapons which are not available on the cat). similar WSO/RIO/BN interesting workloads can be expected on platforms like the A-6, Tornado and attack helicopters (Hind, Apache and even the OH-58D if they have bothered giving us shared cockpit)
  10. Your system is far superior to mine, and I find almost all version acceptable (including the widely complained about OG 2.5.6 - it took a massive hit, but was acceptable). so your request is very, very subjective. where was the best performance? it'll probably be 1.5.6...

I'll PM you the same, as people tend to not look at their threads after a while :) However, the Basestations can be linked to your computer via BT. and steamVR will bring them up and power them down when you open/close it. You can turn this feature on/off at any time by navigating to SteamVR->Settings->Base Station->Power Management.
  12. I've flown a sortie with a few friends. Two ship F-14 (4 clients) and 2 ship hornets (2 clients) on a dedicated server (with 100mbit+ BW) I flew PLT with a human RIO. we had one missile shot, which I knew was trash when I took it. (bad aspect, and I was expecting the target to be lost in the clutter) however, looking at the TACVIEW recordings later. every participant of the flight saw something else. I saw the missile go ballistic. however the RIO and one of the human hornets saw the missile impact the target. I have no trackfile to provide but here is some crapy cellphone takes vid of screen of what it looked like. I assume it's a DCS thing. but it's an extreme case. it's not a missile off by a few feet without proximity triggering (which also happened 100ft AIM-7 shot did not trigger proximity fuse). a few notable events, After takeoff my OBS experienced renderer issue (quickSync) which caused a massive lag for about 5-10 seconds. immediately following that, my RIO's DCS crashed (it crashed about 15 seconds after lag recovered) and he joined it again mid flight as soon as he brought his DCS back up this all happened about 30 minutes prior to that missile shot.

  15. Tried it. Helps a bit. But it's BS. i have no issues reading A-10 MFDs, no problem with M2k radar, F-15 is working just fine, and No problems with the instruments of the 'cat. However, Viper is just no go for me (and I assume for many others). Regardelss I prefer Cat over all other DCS planes so I don't really care :)
  16. Not F-16. The MFDs are not legeble in VR. Other then that, they are all fun.
  17. what happens with the diamond? I've noticed that the radar sometimes looses lock while in the dogfight (after PAL lock). when the radar looses lock the system reverts to fixed distance mode for the gunsight (pipper and diamond). when the radar re-aquire the Diamond will go back to sit on the target and the pipper will be correct again.
  18. Is this going to be the new mode of operation? An update once a month and a weekly hotfix? Because if that is the plan, I'm all for it. It would be a great!
  19. I don't know about thenlantirn. But when viewing a HUD outside of what is called the "Eye box" It does not look as you expect it to look. The eyebox is the imaginary 3d space in which the hud optical system is calibrated for. Outside that area HUD may look large, small, out of focus etc. In this case the rio sits wwwway back of the eyebox so it being huge is perfectly reasonable.
  20. F-14 has a special radio menu option that will only show menu when PTT is pressed. Releasing the ptt will make the menu disappear. Note, It's only the Cat that has this option. Check special settings tab

  23. doesn't seem likely. they have some bugs what needs fixing first. I guess they will push it to release once performance is optimized and all the annoying stuff is out of the way. and no one will give you a timeline. it will be pushed when it's ready. (I hope)
