Ah, I bought a USB 3.0 hub which is shown as incompatible, but the Inateck internal pci USB expansion card is what Oculus lists as compatible. When you run the Oculus Compatibility Tool does it show your USB is compatible?

Some more detailed comments re my initial impressions of the CV1 after a few days use. 1) VERY pleased with my purchase of CV1. Demo's are nice, included games Luckys Tale, Eve are neat but are not my thing and do not hold much interest for me. However, slipping on the Rift and entering into a cockpit in the DCS world is simply a jaw dropping thing of beauty. The leap in sense of immersion, going from flat monitor (with TIR) to Rift, is utterly staggering. I am using a home built sim, seat see pic below. While holding the stick in the Su-27 (which has the virtual pilot body) I looked down thru the small gap around nose in the Rift and could see a portion of my real life right arm which merged into my virtual gloved hand in the sim. Looking at my left arm, I could see my left real arm merge into my virtual gloved hand on the throttles. Wow. A couple of times while in the rift I raised my arm to check the time on the watch only to be confused/amused/impressed at what I was attempting and how my brain had been fooled. 2) Using prescription glasses. I am somewhat nearsighted and use glasses for distance. I was expecting that I would be able to use the Rift without glasses (as the lenses sit extremely close to the users eyeballs. To my disappointment, I found that Rift's lenses are focused at infinity (like HUD on real airplane) and therefor if you need glasses for distance in real life, you will need them to see clearly in the Rift. Getting the headset over my RX glasses is not easy. I found an older pair with smaller frame and it does work, however it is a pain to get the headset positioned properly over the glasses, and I am worried about damaging the Rifts foam add scratching it's lenses. 3) USB hub. In preparation for the Rift I bought a USB 3.0 hub. After installing the Rift I found that the Hub I bought is not compatible with the Rift. The Oculus website lists only ONE usb card as being compatible... the "Inateck Superspeed 4 Ports PCI-E to USB 3.0 Expansion Card" Is everyone running this card?? 4) Interaction with physical objects outside of Rift ie keyboard, etc. is (as expected), a bit of an issue. Not a show stopper by any means but trying to view the outside world through the slight nose gap is a definite inconvenience. Lifting the headset to look outside the VR world, especially while wearing traditional glasses, is a hassle. 5) Resolution. Better than I expected. Some text/distant small objects difficult to read. Could be better for sure and I look forward to future versions with higher resolution. However due to the phenomenal head tracking and sense of immersion I will simply not go back to using a flat monitor for DCS. 6) I'm using contacts now, and they are SO much better than glasses for me in the rift. That's it for now. FWIW.

Got mine a few days ago. DCS in the Rift = WOW!!
-
Hah. Never knew that. Successful bailout. Pilot stands up. Eject again and he buckles to his knees and then faceplants.
-
Do you? Wouldn't it be like shooting a gun, where it is better to keep both eyes open while looking down sights?
-
Exactly! Video or it didn't happen!

Even when looking behind you? :music_whistling:

It would be great to see some updated comments from Wags now that the CV1 is out. How is CV1 with DCS? Any updates on 1.3 implementation. How is it? Pro's cons in DCS, CV1, 1.3. Give us the low down. C'mon! ;)
-
How is the Gazelle with the CV1? Are readability etc. Thanks.
-
Thanks for this Rico. I'm impressed!

Thanks for the update KLR Rico!
-
@KLR Rico, how would you describe the readability of instruments in P3D/flyinside/CV1? Might, possibly give us an idea of how it will translate into DCS. Thanks.

Same here. Free shipping to Canada. Nice. :)

Not sure exactly how I did it... but Mrs. L. finally gave me the ok to purchase the rift. Barely were the words out of her mouth and the order was placed. D*mn the torpedos and scr*w the low CDN dollar! Full speed ahead I say! Hopefully this will be me someday soon with the O.R. ---> :pilotfly:

@ Brixmis. For me the seated VR rift experience will be just fine for my main interest of simulation immersion. Also, and of great importance to my physical well being, I do not (yet) have a rubber padded room required for the "whole body" VR experience. ;)

Come on... you have to elaborate! More details puh-lease! ;)

I know this does not address your "press the space bar when ready to proceed" issue, however the training videos are on youtube... fwiw.

Guns only when in A2A when you also have missiles?
lobo replied to bunraku's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Like Buzzles says above. While in A2A mode, use the DMS left/right short to cycle through the gun sights. You get both Aim-9 and gun symbology displayed at the same time on the HUD. As far as I know the only way to get rid of the Aim-9 symbology is to launch all Aim-9's. With that done, you've now got yourself a good old fashioned, guns only, depleted uranium spittin, A2A killin machine worthy of Yosemite Sam himself! -
Hey ya Bluenoser! For the A-10c I put together a checklist that will help you with startup and weapons etc. Link in the sig below. Have a look it might be of some use.

I've been flying commercially in real life for the last 30 years and pitot heat is always on in flight. DO NOT EVER wait until you are in cloud below freezing to turn on your pitot heat. Google crashes due iced up pitot tube.

Nevertheless, if you are in the air pitot heat should be on.

FWIW these are the two sight pictures I use. Default straight ahead view, TIR paused, and zoomed in slightly so canopy rails are on edge of screen. For myself it definitely makes it easier to always go in with the same sight picture, which for myself is as I've described above. Note in the contact pic where the tanker engines and belly are.

-Trim A/C for speed before moving to contact. -Ignore the HUD info once you are close to the tanker. -Fly formation on the tanker NOT the boom. i.e. look through the boom. -For better precision while refueling, rest forearm on leg while applying slight pressure as required to the joystick. -Once connected and taking fuel, make small adjustments as required to keep the boom in the green arc. -Breathe, wiggle your toes once in a while and relax your death grip on stick. -If using TrackIR, consider pausing it prior to connecting. -Consider keeping feet off rudder pedals, flat on the floor. -Move forward and close on the tanker at 2-3 knots until reaching the contact position. -Align the boom with the center longitudinal axis of the aircraft. Make constant reference between the boom and the tanker fuselage and avoid chasing the boom. -Practice, practice, practice. -Try not to crash into tanker. :smilewink:

Think it is too keep a/c from shaking apart when firing the GAU-8. ;)
