  1. Something worth noting, just to avoid confusion while people test this: The smoke effects in DCS World 1.5 appear to stream from the aircraft along its ground track (incorrectly), and it looks like this effects multiple aircraft, not just the MiG-21. You can see this in Justin Case's screenshot in post 9 of this thread. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2510253&postcount=9 Contrails seem to behave correctly, though. So if you fire your guns at high altitude you can get the gunsmoke and the contrail moving away from the airplane at different angles. Anyway, something to keep in mind to avoid confusion while testing windy conditions. (the sideslip the MiG-21 experiences while flying in steady wind is definitely not correct though, and the other planes don't seem to do this. So there is something strange going on with the MiG flight model)
  2. I was actually just wondering this myself, and haven't seen any civilian traffic. Does restarting the game make them appear..? So far that hasn't seemed to make a difference for me.
  3. I have been tasked by a coworker to find his old house in Las Vegas and bomb it in DCS 2.0. And take lots of screenshots while doing it!
  4. Oh. My. Goodness... The French certainly know how to build a sexy fighter! Great video, I may have to pick this one up...
  5. Wow! The mountains are spectacular in that low gravity! Just the other day I was telling my wife how excited I am for more pictures to come back from New Horizons, and she asked "Wasn't that back in July?". Slow transfer speeds and limited communication windows just means we get to keep seeing new pictures and data for quite a while. :)
  6. Oh man, I'm excited! I was in the A-10C beta so I can get this map for free, but honestly I'm considering purchasing it too. I can't imagine how much time and money has gone in to producing this. I'd feel guilty getting it for nothing! Related but unrelated: where were the Top Gun training scenes filmed? Was that around the NTTR? I forget. Once the Leatherneck F-14 is out we might have to try a scene-for-scene remake of some of that movie...
  7. Good to hear that ED is looking at AA missile behavior. I hope AI BVR behavior can be improved to go with it! BFM is cool and all, but blowing up little dots on a radar can be fun too!
  8. Hmm, the Hornet was already mentioned, but how about showing the ground mapping radar in action? :D Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me what is shown on Sunday; I'm just looking forward to it regardless!
  9. Please be the AT-802U, please be the AT-802U, please be the AT-802U...
  10. Correct. :P
  11. My computer is almost on par with yours and it runs the MiG-21 just fine. I'd say go for it; no reason to wait for 1.5!
  12. Beautiful job on the Eagle! I'd love to see pictures of whatever kit you do next.
  13. That seems to be a trend I'm noticing. The more we learn about these worlds, the more interesting they become. I just gotta say, I think it's pretty awesome that we (all of us) are the first people to see what Pluto looks like. Ever. In the whole history of the universe, we are the first. That's pretty cool.
  14. Uh oh. That's where I live. :P This was something I grew up with, and I remember my parents teaching my brother and I how to store clean water, and what to do if we had a big earthquake and lost power and water for an extended period of time. We had earthquake drills all the time in school, too. I just hope this doesn't hit any time soon. The "Big One" has waited quite a while, maybe it can wait another 100 years.
  15. Agreed! And it's amazing to me how quickly the encounter has happened. Not even a week ago there were barely any surface features visible, and now New Horizons has already sped past Pluto and is on its way further out. I am very excited to see the up-close and high-resolution images over the next few days!
  16. Huh, looks like most of the screenshots have been removed from the first post.
  17. Great newsletter, and nice to see more screenshots of Nevada and the Hornet!
  18. Looks about right for a skid height of 8. I think you circled a skid height of 2 in the diagram. Unless I'm also misunderstanding something? (entirely possible)
  19. Hahaha, nice! Looks just like my setup: monitor, joystick, DCS World, cat... I find my copilot is often more of a hindrance than a help in combat situations, though!
  20. Oh, my once-per-month is for VFR. Adding on IFR is going to require more practice, but that can be done in a simulator. Even flight sims on your PC at home can help maintain some IFR proficiency if done right.
  21. My personal preference is to fly at least once per month, even if it is just a couple takeoffs and landings. If possible try to include in each flight a power-off 180 landing (pull the power to idle in the pattern and land, simulating an engine failure and forced landing). The more familiar and comfortable that is, the better. Proficiency is ultimately about safety, and that requires practice. 3 takeoffs/landings every 90 days might be enough to stay proficient (and safe) if you're flying a small non-complex aircraft in non-complex airspace. I fly piston twins in a complicated area, so once a month is my bare minimum.
  22. Wow, that ground radar image! I'm very excited to play around with that when the time comes. But wow, like trying to find a needle in a haystack! Awesome. :D
  23. I'd always wondered this too, and some reading on Google suggests it may have been due to weapons separation issues and clearance from the fuselage, or possibly with bomb accuracy. Is there any truth in that? I really can't find much info on it other than "it's apparently due to ...". Whatever the reason, it's just another example that everything in aircraft design is about compromise, and optimizing the configuration for a specific mission. If the canted pylons actually increase drag, then that's a trade-off the designers chose. On the other hand if it decreases drag, then it's a trade-off between performance and how cool the plane looks. ;)
  24. Halflife 3 confirmed!!
  25. I was referring to what Wags said in the first post. To quote: Whether the old map gets updated to include this as well, I don't know, though it has also been stated that the Caucasus map will not be updated with new EDGE features.
