Fair enough. But still, all you could do is climb, until the DUD cue is gone. Now you would at least know that the canister will dispense the submunition prior impact. But I still think one should have an idea of it before and calculate the timings. Thanks. Yeah, I‘m well aware of that, that‘s why I was specifically referring to the Mk20. The CBU-99 is definitely more user-friendly with the FMU-140.

@Muchocracker But it‘s not a DUD. It works perfectly fine if you use it correctly. It simply is the way that fuze works. It dispenses after a certain time. If you put in 20sec it dispenses 20sec after release. How would the computer account for that if you fly too low? Again…there is no option anywhere to set a dispense hight. It doesnt have any type of altimeter. https://cat-uxo.com/explosive-hazards/fuzes/mk-339-fuze Or do you mean you would get a DUD cue if the computer calculates, that the bomb would not have sufficient time to dispense before impact?
-
I don´t see how this would work. The Mk339 Mod1 is the only fuze that can be selected. In the fuze menu. It is a timed fuze and you have to select the time for the PRI and OPT fuze setting (function delay) on the ground (or mission editor). Once in the air, there are no other options to be set, like a burst hight. So I just did a quick test, where I flew significantly below my calculated altitude, had the tgt designated via ATFLIR and as expected, the Mk20 just impacted the ground without dispensing the submunitions. Of course, I had tested this before while adhering to the calculated parameters and the submunitions expanded on that one.nullnull

@The_Cokester Yes, and for the Mk20 it gets even trickier since it does not dispense based on altitude, but on „time after release“. So you need to know your altitude above the target prior the flight or adjust your altitude in flight accordingly. Then you need to do the math by yourself or find a website that calculates the time of fall of an object and then substract a couple of seconds from that for your desired dispense (like 2-5sec I would say).

I don‘t think this will provide a stable platform, no matter how heavy it may be…unless it would be inconveniently heavy. Check out something like this maybe: https://www.monster.tech/produkt/joystick-hotas-tischhalterung/ (Sorry, it came up in german for me, you can probably switch it to a language of your choice somehow)

@VirusAM I haven’t used my F-16 throttle for a while because…well you know…the Hornet… I think it‘s simply a matter of getting used to how to move it correctly. The directions will never really change in relation to your thumb no matter the throttle position.

cannot produce and mssing track file Multiple JDAM release
Phantom711 replied to GTFreeFlyer's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
First of all, you are right, if you pickle, only 2 bombs (one from each station) should release. However, the second bomb on that rack is not linked to TOO2 by any means. The whole dual rack got programmed for TOO1. So the only way I see, that the second bombs were released also is if you accidentially pickled twice while you were still in LAR. Or maybe your controller sends multiple weapons release signals? Other than that it would be a bug. Could you reproduce the behavior? -
@CM2024 Why would you want a feature that is not realistic in the first place?

SimApp Pro - messes with TM warthog T.A.R.G.E.T. software
Phantom711 replied to hreich's topic in Winwing
That depends on the WW devices the OP is using. If he uses the UFC, ICP or the MIP displays, then SAP is very much required to run, otherwise you won‘t get anything from DCS to display on those devices. -

Because it doesn‘t with a Quest. -
The GPU renders the image for your VR headset anyways. Since this is usually done at a higher resolution than the image on the 2D screen, I don‘t think it makes a difference. The „crop to rectangle“ is only really important if you want to record footage while in VR (and use it for a video).

Good to know. Never used it really.
-
@Foka yes, but that‘s an external use. I use DCS-DTC which also uses it to initiate the upload. But of course I see that your described case uses it in it‘s intended function.
-
And the I/P button doesn‘t do anything either… Just use them to something at your convenience. Calling up the kneeboard for example. Dimming exterior or interior lights etc… I have the WW MIP as well…it‘s really great.

It‘s not like an NDB. It only shows you the direction of the station you are talking to. On position 1 for radio 1 and…you guessed it…likewise for radio 2. So if you dial in the correct radio frequency for an airfield, you call them and they reply, you should see a small circle appearing on the compass ring of the HSI indicating the bearing to that station. It will disappear when they stop talking though. One might want to set the heading big as a reminder there. Thinking of it now…I have never checked, but what frequency range are those DF that you mentioned? Maybe you could dial them into the radio and have a permanent bearing indication?!

@ex81 @ drücken und dann anfangen den entsprechenden Namen zu schreiben. Dann erscheint eine Dropdownliste bei der Du dann einfach auf den entsprechenden Namen klickst.

WinWing - quality issues and terrible customer service experience
Phantom711 replied to CalypteAviation's topic in Winwing
Maybe recheck the nut on the other side and if it‘s properly seated. If you could get rid of that tension that bends the rear part up then I would think that some superglue will fix that problem reasonably well. Also, have you sanded down the afterburner detent? It looks very worn… -
WinWing - quality issues and terrible customer service experience
Phantom711 replied to CalypteAviation's topic in Winwing
I know this is not the point, but I‘m really wondering why that thing broke there. There is not much force acting downward upon it. From the picture it looks as if it was/is under some tension. I‘ve got mine for more than 2 years now and all I have to do is to re-tighten some screws every once in a while. -
The Thrustmaster MFDs are just the bezels, there are no actual displays. A while ago there was a thread where someone showed a method where you kind of „hack“ into the BIOS (or CMOS or whatever) of the respective displays and thus can turn it brighter. I‘m relatively sure it was either here or the Virtual Reality subforum.

correct as is Waypoint Offset BRG input bug
Phantom711 replied to Killshot0597's topic in Bugs and Problems
@HanuXXL Have you entered the elevation correctly? Not sure right now, but I believe the ruler shows true bearing, the system in the Hornet uses magnetic by default. Depending on the magnetic variation the difference might be significant enough. -

Phantom711 replied to Panzerlang's topic in Virtual Reality
Well…the whole discussion is kinda pointless without looking at the FPS. And like others have pointed out, it is rather unlikely that you can manage to have 90FPS near to the ground. And if you don‘t match the HMDs refresh rate (90Hz->90FPS), you will have stutters…more or less. -
I just checked it myself and came back here to "confess"...
-
As someone with a military and aviation background, I find that very odd. I‘ve never heard or seen anyone breaking up a bearing in something smaller than a degree. And it‘s even weirder to do it in minutes and seconds. What would be the actual use case? Where would you get bearing information from, that is that accurate? Anyways…it isn‘t gamebreaking…I just fill in the zeros…
