  1. Yet another "first flight" video: I dived right in to full simulation settings, with no take-off assistance or auto rudder. I've provided links in the YouTube description to skip all the messing about at the start (setting up TrackIR, messing with zoom mapped to joystick slider and general looking around the cockpit, like a child with a new toy!). I'd heard the stories of how hard it can be, so I was ultra careful, and I think it went quite well. Ironically, after watching the take-off training I got worse for a bit but now I'm much better and smoother at taking off and landing.
  2. This only happened to me when I had "Disable Aero Interface" ticked; untick that and the mouse doesn't lose focus.
  3. Those displays appear when you are in 'Game' mode, as opposed to 'Simulation' mode. You can either switch to simulation (via Options menu) or there is a tweak you can apply to one of the .ini files to remove them. Let me know if you're still desparate to get rid of them and play in game mode, as I used to play like that myself and can probably work out what I did for you. Or try a forum search, I'm sure it's mentioned in here somewhere!
  4. Load the game and start a mission or quick mission; the splash screen should show you your version (bottom left corner).

Bohemia Interactive (of ArmA fame) uses Simul Weather in their new sim 'Take on Helicopters'; the best clouds/weather I've seen by far, and flying through them is equally impressive too. (Mr_Burns, you should check out the demo, there's a nice fade and transition as you enter the clouds).
  6. Every mission is a different scenario albeit with similar targets. You play a certain role, as do the MiG 29's and Russian boats and everything else in the game. Maybe the F18s are attacking the boats, the MiGs are sent to see them off, F16s are in the air to clear SAMs for you, whilst you fly in to destroy the tanks. Everything is there to add to the immersion, for your benefit. This isn't a sim where you take-off, destroy every plane and ground target you see, then land. :)
  7. I used my Saitek Cyborg Evo for months in much the same way; I used the 3 base buttons as "shift" keys for the POV hat, so I could switch between TMS, DMS and Slew (without shift it defaulted to Coolie). China hat fwd/aft was assigned to 2 thumb buttons. I found this setup to be perfectly useable and enjoyable. After learning the ropes and realising I loved the game (sim!) I decided to invest £120 in an X52 Pro.
  8. If you're talking A-10C then do this, it works; no need for ATI Tray Tools or D3D Overrider. Also, it is a known issue and is being addressed in 1.1.0.9 patch. Preliminary change log for v1.1.0.9: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1230436#post1230436 (it's under Other Changes right at the bottom)
  9. TrackIR. You won't regret it. As others have said, you already have a functional joystick which you can upgrade at a later date.
  10. I hate to admit it but you're not alone there, I've done this too!
  11. +1
  12. I believe they are still working on a Nevada map. Currently there are no additional maps available to download.
  13. I had that once on one of the Betas; it was a ramp start, in a hanger, started her up, applied throttle, nothing. The Hog did dip forward as if brakes were applied but I hadn't recently changed key assignments or anything. A quick restart sorted it out, not had it again since.
  14. There's a nostalgia thread here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70631 And a great nostalgic story here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=64631 Can't remember my first sim but I've played (in no particular order): Skychase, F29 Retaliator, F19 Stealth Fighter, Fighter Bomber, Flight of the Intruder, F15 Strike Eagle, F16 Falcon, IL2 (all the way up to 1946 edition), Knights of the Sky, FS2004, Lock-on and Flaming Cliffs, Thunderhawk, Commanche 4, Superhuey, Battle of Britain... Most of these were for the Atari ST, some on PC. Not sure I had any for my Atari 800XL!
  15. Never had a problem with the patches; I'd rather apply a patch than have to download 4+ gigs every time! If ever I do get a problem, the full install is always available a few days later; I don't see an issue.
  16. As others have said, your stick is not worn out; mine is brand new and does this too. I ended up setting up bands with the top end as zoom in, and lower as zoom out (large band in the middle with no command and a separate button as reset zoom).
  17. I think there is a plan to try and include them in 1.1.0.8. Edit: Link http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71408
  18. 5.1? Or are you keeping it hush hush? :)
  19. It's on the command list under LAAP Engage/Disengage (by default mapped to the '1' key).
  20. You can see it in action though in the new tutorial vid; check the official updates thread for a link. Looking good.
  21. +1 That way anyone who's worried about the performance hit can just turn the option off. I agree though, it will be a huge immersion booster; I can see myself spending more time looking inside the cockpit than outside!
  22. Why on earth would you want to sell it? The game hasn't even been released yet!
  23. I've seen this happen during a play through one of the easy instant action missions. Your last target is a column of armour making its way along a road; as soon as you engage one of the targets the rest will disperse. They eventually form up and carry on if left alone long enough.
  24. What, cheaper and you still get some play? :smilewink:
  25. Do you know what kind of graphics card you have?
