I should have thought this over more and I apologize. The link above would be a "pit trainer" ... Its very good... looks like the DCS training missions. I guess what I was thinking of was a "CDU trianer" to learn the NAV, waypoint, mission planning, wind correction and other facets of that mysterious and cursed little 1970's-version-of-an-I-Pad thingy that has a keypad... also know as the CDU. It would allow us to RTFM and then apply it with a fast launching app that would let us enter and apply data in the flight computer then practice using that data in the TAD. The reason I thought of this is I study and learn an aspect of the CDU (like entering waypoints and flight plan building) then when I need to adapt to something new Im totally lost. Be nice to RTFM or read a post and then quickly apply that newly learned skill instead of waiting for 10 minutes for my PC to launch the sim and start the plane. Again, not worth putting a lot of time into this but was curious if it could be done using some part of the game engine (sans the 3D rendering part) and then displaying it with an app like Helios or hog-touch.

I agree mauser... I think It was my fault by not keying the radio properly.

right.. and I do. Just was thinking of the possibility of something that could be launched from the desktop and run in 2D that could be up in a matter of seconds for quick access to practice. Agian, the idea isnt worth spending any real time on... was just asking if it could be ported somehow.... maybe using something like helios to show the data while running an executable that uses the TAD & NAV logic in the sim.

Sorry if this was asked already but I have been thinking how cool it would be if there was a 2D "pit trainer" that could run outside of the sim. basically, it would need functioning MFD's, UFC, & CDU, to practice TAD and CDU functions. Possibly it could be used to create and review flight plans. Not sure if it would be easy (and wouldnt expect ED to put any amount of work to create it as you guys have done so much already) but it would be nice to practice these functions outside of waiting for the sim to load and cranking up the plane. any thoughts?

it wont be much.... maybe 5FPS tops?

okay, just tried again and no JTAC response. I saw the same 2 groups of guys near search1 and they didnt move. do i have to kill the manpads before anything else will happen? or do I have to fly through the "FORD" zone?
-
OK, I fiddled with it and marked waypoints on the seal teams (do you know that you have one team as russian and the other as US?) I think I may have broken it because when i was starting up the message came in that they were starting their search #1 at 20:22. When I got to the town at about 20:45, the 8 men were still standing there at the 1st search area. Im trying out the new version now... I was just thinking you should have audible alerts when messages come in... good job!

Hmmmm... Both times when i flew the mission JTAC would show up and I would call them on 30FM and no response... tried 5 times with different loiter times. The "Z" markpoint was on a small enemy position in the mountains... maybe it was one of the bunker sites at TRGT 1 or 2. it was there both times. Ill take a look at the mission in the editor.

AAlrighty, just flew it and its very good! I really liked the action at the base... very well done and immersive The first 2 targets went smooth and worked well... I liked how well you hid target 1 behind the trees. Never got in touch with jaguar 1 or found their smoke. the map didnt seem to show the town i was looking for. I flew low and slow over where I thought they would be and called for smoke but no luck. I bombed markpoint "Z" and that was about it. JTAC never answered (2 separate mission runs) Other than not finding jaguar it was a very good mission! congrats and thanks!

Im gonna try this out mauser, but I would ask that you make a Multiplayer version as well... Its generally not too hard and the guys that fly online will really appreciate it. Also chicks dig mission maker that make SP / MP missions.

make sure to turn it on just before takeoff. otherwise it will burn out the pitot tube... something i do when rearming a lot.

Ahhhh, a real world pilot feels the landings are a bit off. I ve been wondering this myself for quite a while. After reading a bit on landings and slowing, i recently changed my technique which is working pretty well. I usually dont flare much during landing anymore. I try to level and touch down near the front of the runway at 125kts (no weps on the plane ~ 1/2 tank fuel), open the air brakes, then gently pull up on the nose to add more aero braking. usually by about 2/3 of the runway Im at a comfortable speed that i can use my brakes. I havent broken my gear with this new technique. previously, i would come in at about 140kts and try to flare and then land long and slam on "W" (white knuckled! teeth gritting! eyes squinting!) and barely make a stop and break my gear a lot due to landing hard. Paullkillirll (snoopy) has a lot of great info on what A-10's can and cant do so I follow his info. and he said that braking at high speed is too hard on the equipment... "the "MAN has spoken LOL So I know my technique isnt real world but it is working well so far and my blood pressure is down 40 points.

I would say that Im at the low end of systems out there so for the other pilots its not worth eliminating it to let my %$&$@# box run it. Maybe substitute the burning/exploding weapons depots for something else? I also notice the lag/FPS drop happens when Im "looking " at the part of the AO that has the friendlies on it (noticeable while Im starting up at the start of the mission)... maybe make them static? I see fires/smoke when im flying but Im usually only interested in them for tracking what my turn-around is to re-engage targets. as far as a burning city, that would be very cool if I ever got around to looking at it....or noticed it. I gotta upgrade to an i7

just about 5 for me, but i dont do the bit tests

Memory advantage 8 GIG vs 16 GIG?
jeffyd123 replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
i was just running 4 gigs on an AMD Phenom, I got 8 gig (2 sticks) of GSkill 21300 (for a later i7 or i5 upgrade) and it easily doubled my framerates in heavy-load missions. 4 gig was pretty much all used up by DCS-A-10. I also just upgraded my vid card to a 560Ti and that made another big jump. -
hey stronggy, I increased my RAM to 8 gig and installed a 560Ti... the mission runs much better but still has a slight lagginess to it (about 15fps after all of the vehicles are in theater and a lot of them on fire). I did have one crash after a gun run on BMPs but thats it out of 7 times in the mission.

ran choppy at times on my rig strong. Im breaking down and upgrading my ram and video. mission is very good as usual though!
-
i remeber the original had bad framrates on my pc... has this one been optimized for crap rigs like mine?
-
cool strongHarm's back! you gonna be flying at the 1st or ? good to see you bud

hmmmm... the mustang is most likely faster than the A-10. But even though Im not into WWII stuff, Ill still buy it to support ED. Im wondering if this means there will be no F-18

Need recomendations on PC parts
jeffyd123 replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
i would consider trying to get an i7 CPU if you can ... maybe instead of the SSD... when you can afford to add in the SSD then maybe that would be a way to go. -
thats hilarious druid!!!! When I was 18, I worked at the airport... One day, one of the ground crew guys handed me a flight bag and said it was "training Manuals".... It was full of rather disgusting german smut mags!!!. Thats too funny!!!!!

i was told by someone at your office that making missions would help me meet women! thanks for the thanks matt.

no... patches change things (like startup) so the pdf is enough for me. It would be cool to have an opening binder Like Falcon 4.0 had, so we could change out pages ourselves as patches modify things. On the other hand, I would buy one to support ED if they could make some extra money from it.
