Which is more important to you?
LawnDart replied to S77th-GOYA's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Of course! Just saying... the helo(s) is not what makes me want to buy BS. Updates, fixes, more AFM and an improved Lock-On is my reason. -
OT: Cockpit Instruments Question
LawnDart replied to sp0nge's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Primary flight display (typically one screen) or HUD replaces as many as 6-12 dials (a.k.a. "steam guages") used in older aircraft. An EICAS screen has condensed engine and crew alerting messages, and just like britgliderpilot said - many things monitored only flash or pop up when something goes awry, otherwise there's no need for the pilot to see them at all. Add to that, multifunction displays (as the word implies have multiple functions) and you can flip through screens of systems, load, etc etc. Can't do that with analog guages and lights... it's a digital age thing making the cockpit less cluttered. ;) ...although there's usually a LOT more information you can present with a "glass cockpit" (i.e. CRT screens) if desired compared to "steam guages"! -

Well, I'm not getting BS because of any helicopters... ;) -
I think Rugg was being a little sarcastic. The only silly things are what we are joking about here! ;)

I know I've had a long day at work (14 hours), tired and blood shot eyes, so I re-read your post and sounds like you did ask a question (X2 for the 'site is down')... although it was a rhetorical question. ;)
-
Yes and yes to your questions (being a mod myself); however, especially considering the topics about the site being down; I didn't even realize and later found the other threads about it... Others also started new similar threads after I did, simply because the people were wondering and hadn't found out (or searched thouroghly enough) for the info. I know I log in to the forums directly 99% of the time and hardly pass by the main site, so it surprised me... even if it may have been two weeks after it went down.

Anyone else feel the need for an off topic forum on these boards, since you can't even get a word in edgewise before threads are being closed quite routinely around here. EB, your point is well taken from the now closed "What happened to the "It's July" thread". It is also obvious to me that the policing is not scoring any major points with the user group on these boards either, so maybe it's time to look at the big picture and not put all blame on the users alone... I know what "infractions" I'm guilty of, but as a customer I'd expect anyone representing ED to go the extra mile and be courteous and professional while dealing with the user group. Policy is policy however and if this is the way it is, that's ED's call, just don't expect an overly positive image spread of these boards and ED in general elsewhere on the internet...

Wanna know what pilots think of ejection out of aircraft?

Great video!!! Seen it before, but still had to watch the whole thing... Thanks for posting! -
What happened to the "It's July" thread?
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The old thread may have gotten a bit off topic and a little heated, but not out of hand. Everyone had valid points and opinions. Besides the topic was kinda loose to begin with anyways... For those not interested (who cares?), could have easily avoided reading it. But it didn't even get closed, just deleted! WTH! I just felt as if the forum police was on the prowl again after some other very recent bans and closed threads (some of you know what I'm talking about here)! :( -
ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved Just thought I'd point out the already obvious... any word on progress being made or alternative solution for everyone waiting to re-activate the game?
-
Huh?! Gone... first it was moved to the "chit-chat" forum, now it's deleted...? Anyone?

OT: 3 on line/streaming aviation films
LawnDart replied to No Fear's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks for sharing No Fear! I first saw the first movie in IMAX and IMHO it stunk, but I love the third movie you linked! -
You cannot have an original v1.12b without having Flaming Cliffs. So to answer, no - you must have Flaming Cliffs, the 1.12b patch will not work with just LOMAC, since it is a FC patch. The highest you can update or patch the original copy of Lock-On is 1.02. Version 1.1 IS Flaming Cliffs, and any sub-version of it such as 1.11, 1.12a, 1.12b is Flaming Cliffs. Black Shark will be 1.2 and its patches would be 1.21, 1.22 and so on if it ever gets patched... ;)

Streaming DivX movie: "Smoke On" by the VTB
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in Screenshots and Videos
As SuperKungFu already showed you, Aviation Nation is the name of the air show event that includes the Thunderbrids "home coming" (season closer). There's obviously a lot more than just the Thunderbird demo, incl. vintage warbirds such as P-38, Corsair, P-51, P-47, B-24's etc, Raptors, UAVs, Aerobatic displays, foreign display teams (last year, an F-16 from Belgium flew and it was quite an impressive display with lots of G's). There are many vendors on site and the sheer size of Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV is impressive during the Aviation Nation days (with all its static displays too). Definitely worth while going to, as it is the very end of the season for the Tbirds and some of the Air Force demo teams, which means they will be at their best having had all year to perfect their flying until that point. -
Streaming DivX movie: "Smoke On" by the VTB
LawnDart replied to LawnDart's topic in Screenshots and Videos
2008 or 2009 maybe, not enough time for this year... too much work. Right now the plans are for a more precise, faster paced video with game footage and real world 1080i HD footage from the real team as well as new soundtrack somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 minutes long. The idea behind Smoke On was to show everything and I think we succeeded in that, since the only thing people complain about frequently is it being too long! Our next project will focus more on fast paced cuts, special effects and presentation - not continuity or length! Production will be longer due to more effects and better quality though... Hopefully sometime next year... We are going to be at Aviation Nation this year again however, so if you happen to be there. Give us a shout! -
For those who still haven't seen our 2006 movie: Smoke On, it is also hosted in high quality DivX streaming @ www.stage6.com courtesy of Gamerz Theatre. We realize the 720p WMV HD version was quite large to download for most people (@ 1+ Gb), so here's another option to watch Smoke On in good streaming quality. It even looks quite good in full screen mode. If you missed our movie the first time around, here's a chance for you to see it without the need for any huge and time consuming downloads. The 50 minute feature is divided into 4 parts. For those of you that often leave the theaters before the credits are over, the final part includes extra bonus material following the credits in memory and dedication to, not only the Thunderbirds, but all the men and women in our armed forces, fighting the war on terror. Streaming Part I Streaming Part II Streaming Part III Streaming Part IV Note: Smoke On was originally released in 720p WMV HD following its live theatrical premiere and is available for download via our site in HD. For all flight sim enthusiasts who appreciate the difficulty in formation flying via the internet, you'll want to check out Part III in particular as it contains the Line Break Loop & Delta Series. These are some of the most difficult maneuvers we perform. In line abreast, you have very few alignment cues to stay in proper formation with other jets moving in the background, while the Delta Roll for instance is hard since each wingman has to arc their way around the Boss using well coordinated back pressure, rudder and throttle movements in a well orchestrated ballet of muscle memory. The detla formation also has more movement in everyone's peripheral, given the total number of 6 jets. While no part of the show is easy, we're most proud of these 5 & 6-Ship maneuvers. Thank You for watching!

Woah! I had to dig back to the very first post to see what this thread's topic was really all about! DANG, how did this thread get derailed so quickly... As far as the F-22 and F-35... simple answer: Different aircraft! Why? Completely different architechture and capabilities, cockpit integration and systems, but the two aircraft share coming from the same generation of figthers. Performance wise, it will be real interesting to see how well the F-35 will "carve air" like the Raptor? Not suggesting it will do better or poor, but it won't be because the same design reasons as the Raptor, because it's a different airplane. Saying anything else, is like suggesting the F/A-18 is the exact same plane as the F-14... (Which I'm sure, for once, even Viper can agree is not the case!). 159th_Viper, Thanks for sharing the video in the first post.

Issue with the Radeon HD 2900 XT?
LawnDart replied to graywo1fg's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Just wait until it's finished! I'm sure Gunner will post something when it's done... but then of course, it may never be completely finished?! With a project (labor of love) like this, it will just keep getting better and better... Last I heard he was working on the center console and eventually there might be a combining glass (HUD) with nothing but the HUD info on the screen from the game itself to fit on the actual glass in the cockpit. Btw, I like the phrase: "Pimp my pit"!!!:megalol: -

Sorry bud, but here's a another reason for you to change your shirt one more time: http://forum.virtualthunderbirds.com/viewtopic.php?t=1649&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45 OT: This is Gunner's Pit... he's still working on it, but with the 42" Sony LCD in front it looks pretty sweet. -

LawnDart replied to JonTex's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Not going to comment on the shots, nor perfect positioning or not contrary to some others - but rather what lies behind each pass. I applaud the teamwork and hard work to fly these maneuvers and entire BA demo. I know how much work that takes and it deserves the most recognition and respect. Shots look great, but the story and dedication behind the shots are far better! ~S! -
WOW!!! :shocking:  That's crazy... I thought it was a real movie even after the first shot of the plane rushing by... :clap_2: The editing and SFX are world class!!! We're at your mercy... :surrender: Awesome job!

Wider foot base?! Ok... compared to the CH peds, but for Elite or RCS users the Saitek's are still narrow. I like these: http://home.arcor.de/p.madel/simped/index.htm No truer words were ever spoken. A skillful pilot is not determined by his stick. A skillful pilot is the one who best utilizes resource management, maintains high SA and can use his stick/HOTAS (regardless of type) like a magician uses his wand! :joystick:

Didn't we just have this argument in another thread a week ago!? I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS HERE PEOPLE...
