  1. I think you're right, it's CPU bound in those areas with lots of objects: cities, FEBA, and crowded carrier decks. Hopefully that will improve with Vulkan. It's likely why I see a 5-10 fps increase when a Liberation mission is hosted on the old PC.
  2. I installed the SteamVR beta, FWIW. That said, if I leave the universal at 50% and put the app setting at 200%, fpsVR reports 99%, and my frame times over the FEBA go down to around 10-11, but are still around 18 in cities. This is in a Liberation mission over the Golan Heights, hosted by my old PC, with smoke turned off on the front (which also made a big difference). I don’t think hosting Liberation on the old PC is helping much. CPU frame times improve, but only 5-10ms, and frame rate doesn’t change. if I run the mission locally, CPU usage is only around 9% and system RAM usage is about 24/64 GB. GPU is using 20/24 GB over the FEBA. I’d like to get rid of shimmering distant buildings, but 4x MSAA and 16x AF doesn’t seem to help much. The biggest culprit that shimmers are small buildings. If I use VR zoom on them the shimmering goes away.
  3. I'll try the supersampling... but what should I leave the universal settings at? 2160?
  4. Meaning that it cranks up past what it's set at? Not sure how I'd find out how to correct that.
  5. Reposted from the DCS Liberation thread: After creating that on the server, state.json is written and I'm able to copy it back to the Talon system to update Liberation's status. My FPS test is the FEBA of the Golan Heights campaign, just north of the Sea of Galilee, and by playing it as a multiplayer mission, my FPS went from 45-55 to 55-65. Now I just have to decide if the hassle and the loss of time acceleration is worth it. ;) This is with the parsing turned off again, I'll have to try activating it and seeing what happens (though it feels good to have normal cockpit lighting back again). Frametimes over the FEBA are around 17-18 in fpsVR with the mission being server hosted. I'd like to get that down a little bit but I'm not sure what to do without sacrificing quality. Thoughts?
  6. So I've received my new system and Reverb G2 and have spent the past several days tuning the settings in for the best performance/visuals balance, with a 5950X and 3090FE card. In sparse areas I get 90 fps, but in crowded areas like Dubai, or the FEBA during a Liberation campaign, it's between 45-55 fps. I spent time yesterday wiping my old MachV clean, setting up file sharing and RDC, and installing DCS OpenBeta server. I managed to get it working where I could copy a Liberation mission over, but couldn't get it to write state.json until I saw this little tidbit on GitHub: After creating that on the server, state.json is written and I'm able to copy it back to the Talon system to update Liberation's status. My FPS test is the FEBA of the Golan Heights campaign, just north of the Sea of Galilee, and by playing it as a multiplayer mission, my FPS went from 45-55 to 55-65. 7. What settings are you using? I'm still working on dialing mine in. In sparse areas I'm getting 90 fps, but in Dubai or in missions with a lot of objects, it drops to between 45-60. Still much much better than the old system with Rift S, which was lucky to make 40 in sparse areas and 15 in crowded areas.
  8. I’m still working on sorting out the best settings for the new system and the G2. I can get 90fps over sparse areas on the map, but in places like Dubai or if there’s a lot of objects, I get 45-60fps.
  9. I'm having an issue with my modifiers no longer working after a few minutes into the mission. I have buttons on my stick, throttle, and Razer Tartarus all programmed to do the same vJoy button in Joystick Gremlin. Restarting JG fixes it, but it's a pain to do so when in VR.. I do not have a wheel. Controllers currently plugged in are: vJoy Device VPC T-50CM2 base VPC ACE2 rudders RS F18CGRH grip via Bluetooth, shows as two controllers Winwing Super Taurus Throttle Winwing Super Taurus Panel Razer Tartarus Pro
  10. Thanks guys. I just had to find the right USB port to plug into and the microphone was recognized. I’m good. I spent last night dialing in settings, will work on it again this afternoon after work.
  11. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but no microphone is visible to Windows, even when WMR is running. Voiceattack is also reporting there is no microphone. Can anyone help with this issue? I've also tried getting SteamVR to recognize the G2, but no dice so far. Thanks EDIT: Seems it doesn't like the USB C port on my motherboard. Using the USB A adapter and moving it around to different ports seemed to do the trick. SteamVR and VoiceAttack seem to work now. Now to just get it configured properly.
  12. I got my new system up and running last night and posted my first impressions in my cockpit thread: Specs for both the old system (Mach V) and the new one (Talon) are in my sig.
  13. Well, I just got my first few flights in instant action with the new system. This is still with the Rift S, the G2 will be here Monday. I can turn settings way up, use OTT to force ASW off, and rarely get below 60 fps, and most of the time peg 80. This is with 1.5 supersampling in OTT and none in DCS, the IC shaders mod, and visibility range to ultra. Before I averaged around 30 fps in the air and 15 on the ground, with most settings turned down. So the FPS and increased settings are the good thing. The bad thing is resolution is still limited since it's the Rift S, and there won't be anything I can do about that for a few days. :) I'll see in the morning how it does with a mission with a lot of objects in it.
  14. Lots of Velcro straps and zip ties. Cables are mostly between the cockpit and the floor. But then again, I’m used to hiding cables. In a past career I worked for Time Warner Cable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. Short version is in my signature. I also just got a shipping notice for my Reverb G2, it will be here on Monday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  16. FNW support and I figured out the problem we were having last night, so this weekend I should be able to start getting things going. My first task is rewiring the cockpit. Since the Talon case is much smaller, the wire length needed to reach the PC is much shorter, so I wanted to redo things for neatness’ sake. Since I had one extra port on my network switch downstairs, I ended up running a new CAT5 line from the master bedroom closet downstairs (where the modem, main Eero, and switch are) into the attic and to the mancave to be used for the new spot the Mach V is located, at the desk where my Mac Mini is. That wall is inaccessible via the attic, but when we bought the house and had carpet replaced, I laid down two CAT5 lines around the baseboards and under the carpet, from the wall behind the cockpit, which IS accessible in the attic. I finally found a use for them five years later!
  17. Good for you, you’ll enjoy! I got my new PC on Monday. I haven’t started installing things yet, though. I’ve been having issues getting both of them talking to each other over the network. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  18. True, but let’s not turn this into a sim vs sim debate. That’s not the point of this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  19. Liberation makes BMS less necessary, because the campaign is the main attraction of BMS (well, that and their F-16 is way further along than the one in DCS). I use PointCTRL in VR with DCS and operate switches that way. That’s the reason I didn’t buy the new Winwing panels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  20. The last non-DCS title I played was Jedi Fallen Order, which I stopped because my cockpit came in from Germany a few months back, and I haven’t gotten around to playing more of it. I imagine the HOTAS desktops are plenty large enough. I currently use the Rift S but have a Reverb G2 on order. At this point, probably the only thing that would get me to set up the MFDs again were if I was to get back into BMS. DCS Liberation makes this less necessary. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  21. I took this picture yesterday. This is the cockpit as it currently stands, waiting for my new PC to arrive today. I will rewire everything to account for shorter wire length needed with the smaller tower, and I want to rearrange my USB hubs. I’ve removed the instrument panels up front as they were difficult with VR (not opposed to trying them again some point down the line). In their place I took one of the Monstertech mounts and attached it to my keyboard post to use as a spot for my iPad mini. I custom ordered two 100mm long posts from 8020.net to raise the front of the pedals up to a more comfortable level. I had forgotten to get them to thread the hole in the end, so I did that myself. My footrest in front of the pedals is the Monstertech floor panel, cut to size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
