  1. No software needed to separate the 3 sound cards 1st is used for DCS - speakers (and as system default) 2nd is used for Ventrilo - headset 3rd is used for ButtKicker - SimShaker
  2. I am using ButtKicker LFE Kit that has 1000W amp and comes with single transducer (http://www.selby.com.au/brands/buttkicker/buttkicker-lfe-kit-for-next-level-racing-simulator-cockpit-by-pagnian-imports.html). I use one PCI-e sound card for the 5.1 speakers, then another PCI sound card for the Headset, and ButtKicker / SimShaker is using Motherboard Sound (just the woofer output). Trick to get them all working together (the 3 sound cards) is that they are all different brand/chipset. Having tried 2x Creative X-Fi sound cards I find they don't work together as only one card is seen by the OS at any time (and its the last one installed). I'll get a picture or two tonight
  3. Wingtip contrails are just longer especially when speed is high.
  4. Today I've added second Buttkicker LFE under my seat :) As if one wasn't enough :D
  5. Here is also my modified file for Vehicle Smoke (it looks larger, lasts longer and is visible further out. It also reduces size over time). Works in 1.5.2 and 2.0.0 This file goes to ...DCSxxx/Bazar/ParticleEffects/Effects folder Edit: I've extended visibility of Fire also - so new version of FireVehicle.lua is attached (and screenshots to show you how smoke stack changes height as time passes on (to see this concentrate on most left/highest smoke stack, that's me that crashed as I wasn't careful when flying low :D) FireVehicle.lua
  6. haven't tried to change those, I did while back but wasn't much of an improvement. If you want you can get this longer looking (and in my opinion more realistic) wingtip contrails effect :music_whistling: This file goes into ...DCSxxx/Config/Effects/ParticleSystem2 folder wingtipContrail.lua
  7. True. I was more thinking in line of over-exposure to them, which I think we would be if we are to wear the headset for few hours and every day (which I think is what I will be doing)
  8. The dust is affected by wind in DCS. I have no wind in that mission.
  9. ButtKicker with SimShaker works pretty damn good. And what they said... have spare sound card to connect ButtKicker to (to Subwoofer output)
  10. I can foresee many VR headsets that people will buy/upgrade in the future, and probably I will too. Ah well...
  11. Hi all, I have been using modified version of lua files for my install for a while now and thought I might as well share in case people like it and would like to use it. These files are compatible with Open Beta 1.5.2 as well as Nevada Open Beta 2.0.0 To install: extract WinRAR archive into ...DCSxxx/Bazar/ParticleEffects/Effects folder see also this post for longer Wingtip Contrails: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2641451&postcount=8 see this post for better looking Vehicle Smoke stack: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2642872&postcount=11 see this post for longer lasting Burning Plane Wrecks http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2655680&postcount=24 EDIT: added slightly stronger dust effect - see attached "Modified LUA Files (v2).rar" Modified LUA Files.rar Modified LUA Files (v2).rar
  12. Not too bad for a price for a seat like that. Really nice and realistic looking, just great.
  13. ^^^ Well, I just tried your settings and I actually got bit worse FPS as well as some stuttering. For my PC my settings definitely give me smoothest performance.
  14. That looks awesome
  15. This bug has been reported already, just need to wait for ED to get to it.
  16. no I haven't, I'll give them a crack tomorrow
  17. Very nice video indeed! Music was perfect for it. The only thing I didn't like was the UFO :D
  18. Make sure first that there is no memory leak somewhere when playing online, if there is increasing RAM won't solve it, eventually you'll get same warning message again. If you have max RAM usage just as you join and not because of memory leak, then it's good to get more RAM... I'd say go for 16GB.
  19. I've just tried it to off and it made no difference. FPS were pretty much the same.
  20. Ah well... here we go, but doesn't matter. I'd rather believe what I can see for myself, rather then what someone else claims. Do what you want.
  21. Yes, you can feel sounds but low frequency only, provided it is powerful enough but erm.... hairs that transmit the signal from ear water/bones to the brain cells to be able to get signal from other ear that is not even connected to them? I don't think so. Really I think we discussed this enough (for me anyway) so I'll have to leave it now, lets say we agree to disagree, as we are hijacking the tread about OR VR.
  22. Well I am no expert on the ear physiology its basically ear drum vibrating, and there's some bones connected to it that vibrate because of it, transfer the sound vibrations via some hair to the nerves or something that ultimately goes to the brain. If you meant the hair on the outside of the ear then no, they are there just as natural defense for dirt to get trapped instead of going into your ear, they don't do anything with sound capture or transmitting it to the brain. And by properly I mean do the experiment by eliminating other sources of information the person should be exposed to, anything beside sound itself, and no movement. That's all there is to it.
  23. hairs are not sensors, ear drum is. Please do the experiment I did and let me know your findings, but make sure you do it properly.
  24. I have managed to get most fluent DCS by: - see attached image for nVidia driver settings - V-sync in DCS is turned on - limiting FPS in DCS to 38 in SavedGames/DCS/Config/Autoexec.cfg This gets me very smooth gameplay when FPS is higher than 38 (in DCS it actually shows as 39) and only gets bit stutter when flying low over Las Vegas where my FPS drops into 20's
  25. - I used impartial person (my wife who isn't into gaming at all didn't know anything what I wanted to do, so her brain couldn't try to compensate or make up things to mess the experiment outcome) - I eliminated influence of eyesight (to concentrate on hearing only) - I did not tell my wife where I will be moving the mobile phone (sound source) as if I did, her brain would know where to expect it, hence the third source (the brain expectation or memory) was excluded also. this all means she had to concentrate on her hearing only, and without any movement, to determine where the sound is coming from, and as I expected she couldn't tell when the phone was moved from front to above her head, based on hearing only.
