You hit the nail on the head exactly. I have a professional Facebook where I post my business stuff, but it's not under my real name. I will never otherwise post there or read any of the insanity that gets posted there. It's not exactly privacy that I personally am after. It's the fact that Microsoft is selling info on me to anyone wishing to use me as a marketing tool. I do not appreciate that. If they used their spyware in a constructive way, I could see it not being a problem. I go to great lengths to keep my info out of the wrong hands. A prime example is that my wife gets on average, 20 spam emails a day. I have a total of 13 spam emails in my spam folder and those are from the past year. But I am very careful where I go and what I do on the internet. This forum is about as personal as I ever get on the internet. And that's pretty funny as in some circles I am very well known and by all rights I should be getting a lot more flaky media stuff, and junk via the internet. But my wife far exceeds me in junk, and spam attacks. She's still running Windows 8...lol. As for having to lose DCS over Windows VS Apple. I will probably keep a computer just for gaming and have Windows on it. I have always wanted to try building a gaming rig. It's not overly expensive these days and I think it's a cool thing to try out. But I will wait until this dinosaur I'm using gives out. I'll then just get a Mac and start building a gaming rig with Windows that will only be used for DCS and the other sims that I have. The only thing keeping me from doing it just now is laziness. I have a LOT of software that will have to be switched over because I use my computer for my work and its all pretty expensive and time consuming to get switched over.

I completely disagree. I had no idea when I loaded 10 from 8 that there would be a ton of software that cannot be turned of or worked around. If you think that you are turning off Cortana when you hit that "Off" box you are most very sadly mistaken. It still keeps sending all of your info to Microsoft whether it is on or off. I called Microsoft support to ask them how to completely shut it down and they were very uncooperative. They actually asked me why I want it turn it completely off. In the end, they would not share any info on how to shut Cortana down with me. So I got a guru to show me. When I did get it completely disabled, there was a lot of stuff that I had to give up. Since I do not care about much of the things it shut down along with Cortana I was able to live with it. However......some time later Microsoft caught on to what people were doing and with every update, they would go in and undo what I did to shut it down. And then they just made it so you couldn't use that method without major issues any more. It's ridiculous!!! Again....Apple from here on in. Microsoft has just turned my stomach upside down with this business. And again.....I don't care about the government. I'm not doing anything that I want to hide from them, and they're not all that competent anyway. But the world of cyber marketing is terrifying and probably the most evil bunch of crooks ever to walk the earth.......they replaced Lawyers in my book.

Holy cow!!! Just got the Mi-8 set up with a new load of DCS and I have been flying it using the Fighterstick. I cannot believe the difference in control. I really disliked flying the Mi-8 with my Saitek gear, but it's no problem at all with the CH pro stick. It's like night and day. Amazing!! So much more control. That alone is well worth the price I payed. Saitek just took a back seat the CH Pro. I'm very happy I purchased it!!

Sorry guys...I'm on the other end of Windows 10. Cannot stand the limits that Microsoft has imposed on the control that users have over the software. The fact that you cannot get their snooping spyware out of the program without it effecting the the performance of it is just ridiculous. Cortana can take a flying leap. I have never been a conspiracy theory kind of guy. I've always found those people to be just off the deep end. But Microsoft has gone so far into the big brother realm that it's friggin scary. My big issue is that I could care less if they share all of my info, browsing habits, or even social media conversation (of which there are very few) with any government. It's not the governments that scare me. By and large they're too inept to do much harm. But Microsoft shares it with the most dangerous entities on earth........media and ad agencies. And they absolutely do not give you that choice as the user of their product. You may think that they do but they don't. So far as I am concerned, as soon as this rig gets out of date, Microsoft is a thing of the past for me. It's Apple from here on in. Easier to keep nogoodnicks out of my computer. I know that I won't be able to run DCS any more but it's a small price to pay to be rid of Microsoft.

Re WWII Assets pack and todays update
Zimmerdylan replied to Basco1's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
B-17's absolutely have bombs and can drop them, and.......do lots of damage. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=188646 < read this thread -
I have actually had these issues with the X52. Crazy Twitching. I did something similar, I hot glued it and it usually worked.
-
Well.....Been playing with this CH Fighterstick for a few days now. I really like it. Much more versatile than the X52 or the 55. Feels better in my hand, has a very natural grip and movement. It's also dead on for the A10C. So between it and my X55 Throttle, I'm pretty comfortable. Much more so than with any other stick I have used. This stick and it's potentiometers isn't a thing of the past for me. I'm shelving my two other "New millennium" sticks for now. Sometimes older is better.
-
Hmm....I'll have to get back with you when I get the stick and try it out. I get that different people have different tastes when it comes to this stuff. To be honest, I actually like the old Logitech Attack sticks for the WWII modules. It feels very natural to me. I'll let you know how I feel about the Ch stick when I get it set up and use it a few times.
-
I have been using the X52 for years, and I also own an X55. Although I like both sticks, each has it's issues as far as my taste. I like to have tension on the stick when I fly so it sounds like the CH has that going for it. What I really like is the 3 hat switches. It looks to me like it combines the best of the X52, and 55. Although I wish that all sticks came with the 2 stage trigger of the X52. It is one of the main reasons I use the X52 mostly (nice for the A10). I have pro pedals and cannot complain about them. They've been great for the past several years. I just got a line on the CH stick for $40 and thought that I might give it a whirl. Thanks for your input and opinions guys!
-
I just ordered one of these out of sheer curiosity. Anyone use em? I have read that they're very good sticks. Any opinions? Thx:smilewink:

I'm not sure that it falls into the "Bomber" category. It was initially designed as a fighter but quickly became a fighter that was amazingly effective as a ground attack aircraft. The P-38 was very effective against the German fighters. But was even more successful against the Japanese in the pacific. It was a versatile plane indeed. I would have very easily picked it over the P-51 any day. And yes, the turbocharger had issues early on but those problems were solved and the P-38 went on to become a legend that never got the recognition that it deserved.
-
All in all was a pretty positive update. Thanks ED! I think that now maybe you guys may want to give some love to 1.5. I see some people with broken hearts on the forums and you have been spoiling us 2.1 lovers with all this good stuff lately. :music_whistling: LOL :music_whistling:
-
Yeah.....P-38 is my absolute fave of all WWII ac. It is followed closely by the F4U. I have seen both discussed here but never any real talk of having them as modules in the near future. When ED or one of it's partners announce anything, it usually takes well over a year after the announcement. Sometimes several years so It's not in the cards for the foreseeable future in my book. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=154611 <corsair chat thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=126152&page=10 <P-38 chat thread

Canopy???? What canopy??? Not a fan of the new "canopy" -
LOL....I have changed mine several times already. I think that it's very much about personal preference, and what's going on in game. I think it will be getting a lot of use from me depending on the time of day and mission I'm flying. One thing that I'm sure of is that I like it

Cockpit lighting/hud glass 2.1 update
Zimmerdylan replied to Gunny Highway's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, the HUD glass thing kind of took me by surprise this morning. I figured it would be mentioned on the forums by the time I got here. I also just want to mention that I'm less and less impressed with the canopy these days. For myself, I prefer having some thing there to define a barrier between me and the outside world. It has been pretty well done in the past but it seems to be going the way of the propeller on the P-51 days.......Non existent. I'm wondering if they can't just create an option for it in game. I know that some like it to be pretty much invisible but it feels to me like there just isn't anything there in the way of a canopy. -
What I am praying to the sim gods for is that the technology lets you have better stuff without sucking your resources to the point of exhaustion. I'm getting close to where I don't think I'm gonna be able to fly much longer if too much changes. Not at least until I can justify purchasing a new rig. 2.1 and Normandy run OK on my system now but I know that I'm pushing it.

I think that the number of servers for each map available in DCS pretty sums up why creating new maps just isn't a priority for any of the devs. Although ED and many of us thought that the Nevada map would be the new dominating map, the numbers on the internet prove that it's just not all that popular. You have an average of around 130 servers for the old Caucasus map with it's old graphics, and all too familiar terrain and generic landscape, against maybe 20 servers for both maps in 2.0 combined. Now....I love Nevada. I really cannot go back to Caucasus after flying it. The detail and awesome (IMO) landscape are so much better than Caucasus and I feel like I downgrade every time I go there. Even with the bugs in 2.1 I prefer either of it's maps to 1.5. But the truth of the matter is that a vast majority of DCS fliers still really love Caucasus. The reasons range from it's size and stability, to it's variety of landscapes and about a zillion other things I have heard. My findings are also based on conversations I have had on TS of people who aren't thinking about the lack of a dedicated server. It doesn't seem to come into play as predominantly as you may think. . Some people just hate the new maps and refuse to buy them. To the contrary.......I know guys that have every aircraft that DCS puts out yet they do not own 2 out of the 3 maps. And the map they do own is Caucasus. I own almost every module in DCS and have not flown but maybe 5 of them. I know lots of guys in my same situation. So I personally cannot speculate on marketing strategies, or what anyone should be doing with the development of DCS products (although I sometimes think that I can), but I can look at everything I see when I'm playing DCS and it's clear to me that they pretty much follow what's trending among their client base. I could be wrong...I frequently am (ask my wife, she's an expert on that). But I know what I see. :D

GTX 1060 6GB might not handle Normandy map.
Zimmerdylan replied to SeaW0lf's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
I am in the same boat as you are. I have an almost identical setup as you. I am not a big time gamer and when I purchased my 660 Ti it was a pretty decent middle of the road card. Same goes for my i5. It ran most sims pretty well on lower settings and DCS was pretty good on it. It still handles NTTR and even Normandy with some tricks. I don't get a lot of stutter, and it's pretty good so far. I feel that I am pretty much flying on borrowed time at this point as I am not likely to invest in a whole new rig at this point, and then several hundred more dollars for a card just to fly DCS. When Xboxes and Playstations started climbing up to $500, it was time to give them up. The same is starting to apply to flight sims. So my time with DCS seems to be limited and is probably coming to a close in the next year or two. It has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that I'm not really willing to invest the $$, and technology marches forward. It's just how it is. I'm just not marching in that direction any more because I have other things that I need to spend that kind of money on. -
Quick question about cinfig and input
Zimmerdylan replied to Zimmerdylan's topic in General Tutorials
Thx Art! -
Hey folks: I just dumped my computer the other day and am in the process of reloading everything. Of course DCS was a priority in all of this. I'm having an issue with the input file though. In order to prevent myself from having to set up my HOTAS all over again, I saved the Config file from the previous load to insert the particulars into the new download. It seems that none of the input info works when I drop the file into the Config folder. I went so far as to replace the actual Config folder with the old one and all else seemed to work great. All of my settings (audio, video, ets...) from the previous setup were there. It's only the assignments for the HOTAS that aren't showing up. Anyone have insight to this? Am I doing something wrong? I've dropped the input file into DCS many times before without a hitch. It seems that it doesn't transfer into a completely new download though. :cry_2:

Ground units damage model question
Zimmerdylan replied to ShalashakaDS's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Yeah.....And that's a pretty big bummer for me. It's not very fun creating missions where armor is concerned at this point. You can't really destroy it. We may as well not bother having it at this point. It's next to impossible to kill any of it with the WWII era planes and their weapons. From what I hear, even modern weapons aren't as effective as they should be against them. So from my POV, they're pretty useless right now. Hopefully we'll get a few more land based weapons and vehicles (with decent damage modeling) in the assets pack with this next update. It would make it feel a little more like money well spent for me. I'm not inclined to believe that the damage model for the tanks is going to change any time soon as it has taken years for the WWII aircraft to be addressed. I'm kind of bummed about the whole assets deal at this point. -
LOL......That's what you get for being on the other side of the planet. No update anyway......................:no_sad::chair::pain::pain::pain:

Hey!!! When you're exited....you're exited. I had to tell someone. Since no one in my house cares one way or another, I thought I'd share it with people who can relate.

I'm really looking forward to the update tomorrow!!!!! :megalol: :music_whistling: :music_whistling: :joystick: :joystick:
