The Gazelle and Cyclic input with a Joystick.
Zimmerdylan replied to FragBum's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
FragBum: I'm using a CH pro stick. My problem is that (only with the Gazelle) that I can move my stick in any direction and it has no immediate effect on the aircraft until it gets to a certain degree and then it seems to catch, and when it does, it's not subtle. I end up having to go in the complete opposite direction to correct, and it is very difficult to not overcompensate. So basically, there is a dead spot in the center. It does not show up in the control settings. I can even see the the cyclic moves when I move my stick, but the AC itself doesn't react until it moves to a certain point. I would post a track but we all know how that works. Just another issue in a long list of growing issues. I have to stand by my opinion. I'm not upset. I just don't fly those modules. I don't need any adjusting. My attitude is fine because I don't take any of this personally. But we've all been putting up with many of these issues for a god awful long time now. So.......I just stopped investing in modules at this point. I enjoy the planes that work and don't bother with the ones that don't. Pretty easy really. -
The Gazelle and Cyclic input with a Joystick.

Oh.....I love the Huey. And I did love the Gazelle until that dead zone was put there. My problem lies in that I don't fly any one module exclusively. And if they change something in an update, my muscle memory is all out of whack. Rather than spend time retraining it, I'll just get aggravated that they couldn't leave well enough alone. I did however spend some time working with the Gazelle after the changes, but just lost interest. Sort of the same with the Mi8. People have had this issue with the auto pilot not staying engaged and I'm one of them. It's been this way for several updates now so I just tossed the Mi8 into the scrap heap. It seems that there are so many problems with the modules these days that there are only a few that I bother with. DCS has always had issues here and there but it's worse than it's ever been with no end in sight IMO. It's the main reason that I'm not purchasing any modules at this point. Why buy another bunch of bugs and problems? I did pre purchase the new map, but no more aircraft until I see progress on the old ones. -

I couldn't agree more! It's like there is a preset dead zone and once you cross it, the heli goes full tilt at that point. I lost interest in the Gazelle because of this issue. I have seen it talked about before and have mentioned it myself but nothing ever came of it. So I just assumed that this was the lay of the land and shelved the Gazelle. -
You are exactly right. The problem is that you cannot depend on a formation of any size to follow waypoints, drop bombs, or even fly at a given speed. You have better luck setting up each plane individually. Even then, I found myself running the mission after setting up each plane to make sure it worked correctly. I found that much of the time I would have to set it up multiple times to get it to work correctly. This is a major pain in the ass when you are trying to set up a carpet bombing mission. I have even had issues getting 3 or four B17's to just take off and meet up at a given point so that I can do formation flying. The altitude and speed never follows what I set it for. The assets pack with it's indestructible tanks that don't follow orders, limited inventory, and the other issues that seem to come with it is a bust at this point. I don't bother with it and would not recommend that anyone even purchase it until it gets up to even minimal standards.

There are noob friendly jets and planes that are a lot of fun. F-86 has rockets, bombs, and lots of guns to play with. Startup is so easy that it almost hurts. 3 buttons and a radio call. It's pretty much the easiest fully clickable cockpit plane and it's a lot of fun. How anyone can recommend the F18 t this point is beyond me. No one has flown it...... So the direct answer your question...F-86 is pretty easy. F5 and Mig15 are also very easy to get going. Mig is a little more challenging due to its rigging design. After that...trainers are all pretty easy to fly. WWII planes are all out for now as they are the most challenging. After the trainers is probably goes to the Mig21, and then the more modern advanced planes. But F-86 is the easiest and most versatile for noobs.
-
There seems to be a lot of hit and miss when trying to get the B17 to do much of anything. I finally just gave up on any kind of bombing missions due to the inconsistencies in the plane's behavior. The whole assets pack is pretty much a non starter for me at this point. I went back to using modern stuff on my WWII battlefields because the asset pack vehicles, planes, and weapons aren't much help when making missions. What little it has to offer doesn't seem to do much. Maybe they've fixed some of the stuff or added to it. I haven't bothered with it in months. Sad really..........

Welcome to the DCS community!!!! 1). I use Track IR and have no issues. I opt for it over Oculus at this point as the tech has not quite caught up yet. So I'll get into it when it is more stable. And I have heard people say that it can make them a little sick. So maybe TrackIR is the way to go until you get use to flying DCS. The whole Track IR vs Oculus debate is largely opinion. There are those who swear by VR and are willing to overlook the quality issues. I'm just not one of them. Others think differently. 2. Multiplayer is great! There have been issues as of late for many as to not being able to actually get into servers. I am one of those people. I am stuck in SP until it gets completely resolved. But I have always very much enjoyed the on line community! Helpful friendly people. 3. Both players have to own any module that's in the mission or they cannot enter the AC. Good luck!!! Have fun!

What is stopping the Spit coming out of beta?
Zimmerdylan replied to imacken's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Last I knew, the clipped wings weren't going to be an option. I remember something being said about the performance difference wasn't enough to justify including the clipped wings. I also remember one of the ED people saying that it was never included in the original package. I'm pretty sure that's accurate. But it's been a while since it's been brought up. -
Autopilot Pitch/Roll Not Working
Zimmerdylan replied to dresoccer4's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I have the same issue as the OP, and it's been like that for some time. Since I don't really fly the Mi8 I don't really care. But I saw a post on this some time back and commented on it. I guess some users have the issue and some don't. -
You missed out in your 20s then!!! You'll feel old when some hottie that your thinking obscene thoughts about at a bar calls you sir when you try to talk to her.

2021 (and earlier) DCS Newsletter Discussion Thread
Zimmerdylan replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
I don't completely understand about the WWII assets pack. There will be a $5 increase. I get that but what about those of us who already have the assets pack? We don't have but part of what was promised. Does this mean we'll have to pay another $5 to get an updated version? -
I could most probably tell you what it is but I absolutely refuse to go anywhere near Facecrooks!!! Sorry.......

Once I learned the parameters of the EGR everything was ok. I could take off, fly, hover and all of that with no problems. But....I still cannot take off with a full load without engine failure so it's still overly stated. I'm positive that there are a lot of guys here that have mastered full flight with it in it's current state but I do not fly the Huey all of the time. But I think that most will agree that is overly stated and too sensitive. The whole catastrophic engine failure issue keeps coming up with users and I completely agree that it needs to be altered. ED has said that they are still looking into it. This last "Update isn't an update at all. It's just a statement. There is no update.
-
The whole "moving to beta" update thread was pretty pointless. They could have just posted it when they actually had something else to update along with it. As it stands, it seems to have confused quite a few people. All that it did for me was make me think they just needed something to post so that we don't think they're not doing anything. Sort of disappointing.

"You don't want to restrict carbs in the long run though, all of the healthiest foods contain carbohydrates - fruit, grains, beans etc" I take in plenty of carbs every day. As should everyone. What I am saying (I thought plainly) is that I cut out processed or simple carbs. Complex carbs are carbs that are complete with all of the nutrience that make them healthy. Processed carbs that you find in white flour, pastas, crackers, etc.... have been stripped of all of that stuff so all you get is pure energy with no helpful vitamins and such to help your body use it. Same exact premise goes for simple vs complex sugars.
-
It's not as hard as it may seem. Don't give up on trying, it's certainly worth the effort. As I posted earlier in the thread, I gave up all processed sugars, carbs, and food in general 3 years ago. This was not a diet. I changed my lifestyle. It took only 3 months for 35 lbs to just fall away from me. I eventually lost around 40 lbs and have easily maintained a weight of around 180 ever since. My wife was 180 lbs and after watching my transition, she too gave up these foods. She is now 135 lbs at 5' 8" tall. It involves a commitment to change the way that you look at food. Some people like my father in law who is only 4 years older than I am (Yes...my wife is 20 years my junior...lucky me) and weighs in over 300 lbs. can't seem to stay away from the pizza, McDonald's, and soda. He tries to stop but can't. I suggested to my wife to have him get mental help for it. Believe it or not.....those foods are addictive by design. I had withdraw symptoms when I quit everything. I was lucky because I had a doctor coaching me through that time. I gave up all of those foods and habits because I'm 53 and have an 8 year old boy. My father, his father, and grandfather only made it to their early 60's, but they lived unhealthy lifestyles. Smoking and bad eating habits. My sister passed away in 2005 from Gastric Bypass, She was 45 years old so that should tell you how dire it was for me to stop. But so far as I am concerned, there is never a small enough reason to change your lifestyle if it saves your life. I sincerely hope that you find what you are looking for. ;)

lazduc "I've invested a lot of money in this sim and only really want the modules I have purchased to be finished and 2.5 to be a stable base so things work without having to spend debug time trying to get it all to operate." Amen to that. I'm beginning to wonder if half of the modules I have purchased are ever going to get out of Beta, or work at all the way they're suppose to. For me, it's a matter of patience. I'm running out quickly.

resolved Aileron behavior and effectiveness
Zimmerdylan replied to Reflected's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah....I've kind of given up on the Sabre. I tried it after being away for a while and it's worse than ever. Not to mention that the trim is all kinds of strange in the open Beta. This whole problem with things getting worse instead of better in DCS is wearing at me. Taking a long break. Just isn't really fun any more. Spending more time dealing with problems than enjoying the game. -
Yeah FB = evil in my book. Hope so.......
-
Honestly.....You have already convinced yourself. You'll buy it. Your just looking for validation at this point.
-
You see....That's the difference between a casual player and someone who has to have all of the bells and whistles. There are those who see DCS as a game. That would be me. And then there re those who would get downright indignant if you called it anything less than a realistic simulator. I started with FSX, and went into XPlane 9, up to 10 and 11. And in 2010, into DCS. I found DCS to be far less taxing on my system at that time than any other sim. Yet it was by far the most superior in my opinion. But other than already having a $1000 computer that I needed to run my business on, I never invested more than $400 into a graphics card. I never had any issues running DCS. I still do not have too many issues. Surprisingly, Im running an I5 @ 3.10 G, with an Nvidia 660 Ti, and 16 gigs of RAM. It runs DCS very respectably @ 30 FPS in downtown Las Vegas at medium low settings. This is all that I need because I do not take any of this all that seriously. I will never upgrade to VR. I have no interest in it. So no.....I'm not in the wrong era, genre, or whatever. I just have different expectations than a person who makes this their main hobby. DCS is just a couple of hour a week game for me. It's not my whole leisure life. However.....guys like me make up a fair number of DCS players. And although we do not play all of the time, a majority of us do purchase almost all of the modules that get released. So our business is no less important to DCS than the hard core enthusiast.

Having that slider option is nothing new. Other sims have this and it works fine for them. There are also sliders for many other details that DCS does not have. Until now, it really wasn't all that big of a deal. But it would seem that it is a viable option for them these days. I do kind of believe that it would be a bit short sighted of ED not to keep trying to cater to the people who can't or won't spring for high end systems. There is a huge niche for the casual gamer market. I fall into that category. But once a game or sim starts to consume more money or time than I am willing to invest, I'll just move on to something else. I know a lot of guys who share my philosophy on this. Although I do not believe ED are intentionally omitting lower end users, it seems inevitable that systems become obsolete. The problem there is that the computer gaming industry sees the demand rising and pricing accordingly. I'm not apt to play that game with them. Upgrading is OK. Upgrading to obscene amounts of $$$$ is just not something I am willing to do. $1000 for a video card, it's just out of the question. I pay that for tools that I use to make money, not toys.:D
-
Exactly.......Nothing personal, just a choice.
-
Bottom line for me is that DCS is little more than a toy. I use my PC for other things that are far more important than playing pilot. My system is 5 years old and admittedly outdated for DCS. However, it works great for the work that it needs to perform for me. Right now DCS works OK for me. I do not have a lot of expectations of it and am flying it much less these days as it seems to be developing more problems than benefits. This issue has little to do with my hardware. When the time comes that DCS no longer runs to my personal satisfaction due to more demanding technology, I will simply take it off of my system and not complain. PC hardware is just getting unreasonable price wise. When I started flight sims it was completely different. I am not about to fork over the money that they are asking for hardware these days. Again....it's a toy for me. The main reason that I haven't purchased any new modules is that I see this scenario playing out in the near future. If DCS would rather go in the direction of specialized, high end only flight simulation, more power to em. I got an Xbox that's just as amusing and doesn't require $1000 to upgrade. It's really just that simple to me.
