I'm wondering if it will require some folks to have to upgrade their computers. It seems to be quite an upgrade with all of the forests, and the buildings. The map is quite beautiful and I'm eager to see it. I'm holding off on the purchase though because if it does require a lot more than my system can deliver, I'm not in a position to run out and upgrade, and I don't want a map that I cannot use at this point. I hope this won't be the case.

2.0.5.2576 cockpit glass and material bug
Zimmerdylan replied to Ala12Rv-watermanpc's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah....I hope that they fix the new reflection that they implemented the last update. It effects all of the aircraft and it's quite distracting and in the way. I understand the effect that they're shooting for but it's grossly overstated. -
Helicopter flies like a crab
Zimmerdylan replied to muamshai's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I get what both Lemeon, and Gunfighter6 are saying. I too keep the ball centered while in flight. However, when the aircraft is off center and the ball is perfectly centered, it feels counter intuitive and unnatural and my natural instinct is to straighten it out. So, the easiest way for me to do that is to use the collective to change the torque. So what Gunfighter is saying is that the "crabbing" is just a simple fact of flying and so long as the ball is centered, all is well no matter how awkward it may seem? -
From all that I have heard from Steam users, the disadvantages of using it are never outweighed by the benefits. I hear complaint after complaint from it's users about update issues, compatibility issues, late release issues, serial number issues, etc. There always seems to be problems. For the life of me I could never see why anyone would go through a middle man when you can go directly to the source. I think that a lot of the younger folks use steam because it's sold in a shiny package with a bunch of "perks". Many of the older people prefer to just do it the simple way.

Here is a documentary about the allied bombing campaign during WWII. Very interesting and enlightening movie. It gives perspective as to how realistic a flight sim is not. There is no way I will ever know how hard these guy's lives were during this time. Whew!!!! I'm thankful for that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olsAMx0fPq0

I just gave it a quick look. This video has been around for a while and most have seen it, so I would say yes it's been seen by pretty much everyone around.

This may sound harsh or like I am knocking your point. But all I am really doing is showing you another side of this thing. There are other flight sims out there that cost much more than DCS and charge more for the terrain and it's still not of DCS quality. I have another sim that was mentioned earlier in this thread that I had been flying for several years before I started getting into DCS. Just like everything you are saying, rivers were terrible, terrain (even in well marked cities like Chicago, Paris, and Las vegas) was all generic with minimal or in most cases no landmarks, and very unrealistic. Empty airports everywhere. I even purchased their las Vegas terrain and it was much more of a circus cartoon than the DCS NTTR map. It got to the point to where I just hated using it. As of a few months ago this other Sim company released their newest version with all new updated tech and terrain generators, blah blah blah yet it still looks like a cartoon and you still have to invest hundreds of dollars to get anything out of it that as realistic as DCS is putting out. I too have been and will be in Vegas many many times. I know the place very well, and much is missing from DCS's version. But still....much more is missing from the other pay version. And honestly, I don't think that you are going to find any version in a sim that's as accurate as reality for countless reasons. It's just silly to think that your going to get that kind of detail. The other sim that I am talking about gets a lot of complaints about the graphics and how a lot of people cannot use it because their computer cannot handle the mass amounts of (albeit) generic scenery. Many people have to run the sim at minimum settings. And the creators of the sim readily admit that there is no computer out there that is capable of running it at max settings. I for one believe that. And yet again, it's still not as attractive as DCS is. Not to mention that the flight model isn't even in the same class as DCS (we could go on for days about it's terrible flight model), and it's clouds and weather isn't as good as DCS. Yet it has been updated to a new and better version that'll set you back $60, and still hundreds more if you want to make it worth flying. Noooo thanks. The detail (as vague as it may seem to some) in DCS is plenty fine with me and I'm happy to pay for it because I've owned the other software, and it's no better than DCS. In fact....I don't fly the other any more. DCS is so much better on all levels. I believe that there are people who have an unrealistic expectations of computer games and simulators. I use to be one of them. The day I started realizing that it's a computer and not reality, and started understanding that there are limitations on both my side and the developer's side and stopped trying to compare 0's and 1's to reality. That was the day that I really started enjoying my flight sim. It's just not real, and we cannot expect it to be.

Doesn't sound to me like the clip wing had any real advantages. If this is the case, I'm not really in any hurry to try it out.

Really? I didn't know that. Now I'm wondering why.:dunno::dunno:

I don't know....I don't see a whole lot of vegetation. The vegetation that you see when you get close to the ground is so small and similar to the ground in color that it quickly dissappears when you get to any height. Whatever trees may be in the desert are rarely ever as big as an orange tree and the leaves are very small. When you get rain on the average of every 180 days, things get small. Google can show all it wants to show. When you live here, it's another story. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/67226801?source=wapi&referrer=kh.google.com# https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi16fzTifjSAhXlgFQKHet6D9IQjRwIBw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shutterstock.com%2Fvideo%2Fclip-4242749-stock-footage-aerial-view-desert-rocky-landscape-in-hot-arid-climate-nr-las-vegas-nevada-usa.html&psig=AFQjCNHL6XKHZD32j34a_e7xWgihuFu_VQ&ust=1490751876286749

How to see anything of "combined Arms"?
Zimmerdylan replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
LOL.....I get where you are coming from. I purchased Combined Arms some years ago and found it to be pretty much a bust. Although I know how to use it and have on occasion, I found the whole M.E. to be counter intuitive, and probably the buggiest thing about DCS as a whole. Whenever I have tried to set up elaborate missions, I found that it took so much effort, trial and error, and messing with things to get past the downright bugginess of the whole thing that I just don't bother with it. Now a days all I ever do is create very simple mission where I don't have to expect much from any AI, and I never use the Combined Arms stuff at all any more. Too much hassle. Honestly, I'm glad I got it on sale for like $10. Nothing personal E.D. Combined Arms just wasn't one of your better modules. -
EXACTLY!! The deserts in Nevada are actually very barren. If you have never been there and seen them, you probably can not imagine just how empty they are.

V24 circuit beaker switch causes undercarriage to collapse.
Zimmerdylan replied to nrosko's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
With the last update, several of the modules had serious bugs that pretty much put them out of commission. Unfortunately, the 190 was one such casualty. In the 2.0 section of the forums, there are fixes you can download for every plane but the 190. I am not sure why it has not been addressed but I'm fairly certain that there must be a reason. I guess all I can tell you is to hang in there and it'll get fixed. My 190 module suffers the same problems so you aren't alone. Here is a link to the downloads for fixes in case you have any other bugged up modules, and to check and see when the 190 fix gets released: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=184537 Good Luck!! -
VR Pilots! How do you tell if auto-hover successfully engaged?
Zimmerdylan replied to Bearfoot's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
If you want a very effective way of knowing when it goes in and out of auto hover, use Rctrl+Enter to bring up the controls indicator. When you go into auto hover, it says "auto hover" in the box in large white letters. This way you can instantly see if you were successful at getting it switched on. -
This is the solution. It use to happen to me. I filled out a ticket with ED on it and they had me reset my resolution to match my monitor. Problem was solved at that point.

Guys...For many of us it just doesn't work period. We can do any and all of the things that all of you are suggesting, but it's just broken. Unfortunately, those of us who are suffering this bug are just going to have to wait for the fix to come out. It's not looking to promising at this moment.

Very good point

I believe that DCS has got a bright future also. But I think that in the short term, it's going to get much rockier and harder before it gets better. They've bitten off an awful lot for anyone to chew and it's just now starting to come down to the wire. I'm battening down the hatches for a stormy year or so of bugs, updates, and frustrations due to the both of them. Although most of us here know and understand the nature of this beast, it doesn't make it any less frustrating when we get into the the eye of the storm. We all really appreciate you ED, and we tend to forget the 100 good days when we have a few bad ones. It's human nature I suppose.
-
Yep! I always worry that even though I'm not fond of our clouds as they are now that my frame rate is going to take a huge hit when they implement the new ones.

central position trimmer mode bug
Zimmerdylan replied to decipher's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thanks for bringing this up guys. I have been trying to explain this issue as it exists in 2.0 also. They told me to post a track but the tracks are terminally toast in DCS so it's not an option for me. But this issue also exists in 2.o -
What's with P-51 versus Fw 190 in Dogfights ?
Zimmerdylan replied to SnowTiger's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Yes....and read the date on the last post before mine. That's exactly what I was getting at. -

Zimmerdylan replied to SnowTiger's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
LOL.......:megalol: You just performed CPR on a horse that has been beaten to death, propped back up, beaten to death again, revived, fed and recovered, only to be beaten to death about a hundred more times. :music_whistling: These guys just loooove to argue about this. :argue: -
Taxi with the Spitfire is a PAIN!
Zimmerdylan replied to Crash *'s topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
"1) Not having the stick hard back" For me. I tried pulling the stick back with the Spitfire when I first got it. I read that it locks the tail wheel like it does in some of the other WWII aircraft. If it is actually implemented in the Spitfire, I cannot feel it. Nor can the literally dozens of guys I see whipping it all over the taxiways in servers. I maneuver it around on the ground just fine now and really haven't felt much use for the tail lock anyway after I got use to it's ground handling. -
Taxi with the Spitfire is a PAIN!
Zimmerdylan replied to Crash *'s topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
From where you are now....it only gets easier. If you want a real eye opener....try and take off in the 109. The spitfire is a piece of cake next to that plane. -
Guys: I've been with DCS for a very long time now. From it's earliest days of Blackshark when it came out on CD. What any old timer here will tell you that this is the nature of this beast. And all of this takes a lot of time. No matter who's designing the software. The guys who have been waiting patiently for the WWII map have been doing so for years now. And they have dealt with delays, problems, and lots of missed deadlines, and they're finally getting their reward. Just like those of us who waited patiently for the Nevada map and 2.0. Yes, there are issues with both 1.5 and 2.0 for many right now, just as there have been issues with many things over the years. And we all get your frustration as we likewise get frustrated. However, it's the way that it is with this kind of software and we have all grown to understand this over the years. It cannot be helped. Every game that was worth playing that I have ever downloaded has had bugs and issues with updates. And people always seem to forget how good the game really is when something goes wrong. The one thing that I do know for certain is that all of the issues will get fixed. And when they do (as usual) DCS will shine like it always does and we'll all be grateful. Chin up fellas.:punk:
