  1. Yes.......trim the aircraft for landing and I would say especially for landing. But as was stated, when you get the RPMs down, and you keep your aoa consistent, you should not need to deal too much with keeping the ball centered if there is no crosswind. The plane should keep itself pretty straight. But if it's not, you may have the trim set heavily one way or another. But make no mistake, rudder trim is important from takeoff to landing. I always have the Mustang trimmed around 3 degrees for takeoff. Although not mandatory....It Makes things much smoother.
  2. These two aircraft can't perform the tasks that they were designed for half the time in DCS. I honestly cannot imagine the nightmare an aircraft like the C130 would present. I'm all for getting the stuff that's already out and needing work up and running before we get something that seems like it would have the same problems only a lot more complex.
  3. Yeah....The Huey, and the Mi-8 have become a major source of frustration for me. I love flying the Huey, but it seems that every time they update it and fix something, something else breaks. Some modules I have to just not bother with because they'll cause me to get very frustrated. The Huey and Mi-8 have become two such modules. Lately it seems like there are more and more that I'm shelving and waiting for patches and updates to.
  4. Non clickable cockpits are a thing of the past. Any new modules are all going to have the ability of manipulating the controls in the cockpit.
  5. After trying it the way TBear, and Justificus explained with no success, and now seeing everyone else's instruction, I'll have to pass. Too much trouble. Thanks anyway fellas. It's not that I cannot do it, it's that I just don't want to do it. I have had other flight sims where I had to make all kind of mods, add 3rd party stuff, and change default files, and it was a huge pain in the behind every time the sim updated, or when I would have to reinstall for some reason. Was just too much work for too little benefit. I have long since dumped most other sims and just kept DCS. It was at that point where I decided not to bother modding it too heavily. And it's all good. I'm pretty happy with it the way it is. If I have to live without a pretty livery here or there.....I'm ok with that. It's a very pretty livery by the way. :juggle:
  6. The only planes in the WWII units folder are the 109, and 190. No other planes there. I'm not going to go to any trouble altering a bunch of stuff. I'll just not worry about it. Very nice Livery though.
  7. LOL....Yes. Mr. Willis started it! But we're not picking on anyone, just adding a little good natured humor and ribbing to the thread. It was next to impossible not to give in to the temptation.
  8. Guys: Where do you drop the file to get it into your DCS? Thx
  9. I too was confused and intrigued by thread title lol. Not to get off subject but You haven't vacuumed until you've done it with a Kirby! :yay:
  10. Go through this thread https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=183121
  11. I have actually noticed this with several of the aircraft with the new update. Was pleasantly surprised.
  12. LOL....This depends on how much frustration you can deal with. The spitfire kind of leans toward the German planes when it comes to ground handling, takeoffs, and landings. That's not to say that it's quite as bad, but it requires a certain level of skill that the P-51 doesn't really teach you. But hey.....it's on sale and you can always just hold off on really learning it for a while, but you'll have it in your pocket for a rainy day. You can also just start flights in it in the air to get the feel of it. All in all, it's a nice module. Worth the $$ as far as I am concerned.
  13. Agreed 100%. The high performance pilots I have talked to about it also agree, and it works well for me. What I do is regulate the speed of the plane from the beginning if my inbound approach so that I am at around 150 mph at final approach. From there, I am descending at a very shallow rate, and my speed drops considerably as I approach the end of the runway and am gently pulling back on the stick preparing to flare. At that point, I'm at around 100 mph. I guess it's a feel thing. But keeping the RPM up is the norm according to every pilot I have talked to, and indeed I have found it to work quite well as I can control things much better as I bring the plane down.
  14. What I find is that it's a much slower process than in the other helis. I know exactly what you mean and you are correct, it's harder. I just do everything slower in the Mi8. I watch my collective and me descent rate closely and feel the heli turning as I slow it down and adjust my rudder accordingly. It's much harder to do it as quickly as you can in the Huey or Gazelle. As you improve your skill at it, you can feel the turn before it really happens and head it off quicker. I have gotten much better over time and can bring it to a hover much quicker than I use to with little problems. But for a while, you'll have to take it slooooww. The balance seems to come with time. But from what you are telling me, you are doing it too fast for your current skill level at it right now.
  15. EXACTLY!!!! To the degree that the SU25 isn't an interactive cockpit. But it's the same idea.
  16. I can't tell that with the AI aircraft. I notice this with ground units, but AI seem pretty accurate no matter what level you set them.
  17. Just my two Cents: I personally enjoy the Gazelle much more than I do the KA-50. It's much simpler, It's not a flying tank so to speak. Although it can pack a punch, it is more vulnerable to attack, and there is no fire and forget anything. It's more challenging to fly and navigate than the KA-50 as it doesn't completely depend on computers and it has only one set of rotors. It's much more of a "get your hands dirty" kind of aircraft. To me, the KA-50 is pretty much like the A10C. Once you master the buttons, it's pretty much a piece of cake. That's why I pretty much stay with the WWII modules most of the time. It's nice to revisit all of that techno stuff, but nothing beats getting up close and personal with the enemy. In gaming anyway.........
  18. I'm not particularly into altering files so I'll just stick with the yellow and green for now. I appreciate all of the input.
  19. From my experience and everything I have ever read on this forum and others about the DCS AI skill level, it only effects the distance at which the AI detects you. I have set it a different levels and that seems to be the case. What other behavior are you seeing different?
  20. In virtually every A2A combat sim I have ever flown, the AI aircraft were just vicious, and insanely over matched. When I started dogfighting in DCS I thought that it would be better, but AI behavior seems to be a very tough thing to code. I get why, but it doesn't make it any more pleasant when a Mig15 is shooting me out of the sky after I've ruptured it's fuel tank, shot off it's rudder, and an aileron or two. Downright infuriating lol. All you can say is "It is what it is".
  21. Yeah....The training missions are just terrible in DCS. They will just stop instructing for seemingly no reason in the middle of the lesson if you do anything that's not exactly the way it's set up in the mission. Many of us just quit bothering with them and go on to YouTube where someone has usually posted the completed mission (for that one lucky time) and get their instruction from that. I remember trying the landing mission some time ago, it did the same thing to me, so I did it again, and it did it again. I got it to go through once or twice but never with consistency. It's been a known issue with users since the beginning.
  22. Yeah....I can't pull that kind of speed out of it either.......
  23. Thanks!!
