  1. I'll be danged!! you guys!!!:megalol: Flyby
  2. nearly 33 years now, actually thanks for the sentiment, Leafer. yeah, we're like a pair of comfortable old shoes. Oh I still look at a pretty wiggle, and a man thinks like a man thinks, but with eyes wide open and mouth wide shut!;) As long as I "follow orders" I'm pretty much guaranteed three snacks and a rack. Actually I wear the pants in this household (she just tells me which ones to put on!:megalol:) No kids. Had a Rottweiller that loved kids (but it was hard to get them fresh!:D Flyby
  3. you're right about that memory thing My wife remembers EVERYTHING I ever said or did, with seeming emphasis on what I did that ticked her off. Men let go. Women let build. If memory was money they'd make a killing on interest alone!:smartass: And nothing grieves me more than to have my wife try to relate how something I did eons ago is relevant to the arguement at hand. She has quite a database too as we've been married for nearly 32 years now! If I had committed manslaughter back then I'd at least have been a free man by now!:megalol: shhhhh!!! here she comes!:noexpression:
  4. Leafer there you go again! Leafer if we listen to you we'll all be out on the street holding only our "joysticks"! :D My wife is cool with my simming, though I haven't actually done so in two years now. My system fried, so I use hers to keep up with things until I finally decide on how I want to build my rig. Flyby out ps Bubu can't be blamed for this one!
  5. my take Well, I'm not drinking our money away, nor buying drugs, nor running the piss out of my little Subaru WRX (premium gas-sucking piglet that it is) anymore. In fact, I'm only upgrading maybe every three years. Simming is a hobby for me, and some hobbies cost $. I guess I could save a bit more money by taking up whistling:music_whistling: But hey man, eye of the needle. Can't take it with ya. My wife is understanding as long as I don't go this route too frequently. Besides, I sell off my old stuff to help finance the new. Further, I don't buy the absolute fasted, baddest multi-this-n-that components. In fact I'm waiting for the new Nvidia 9xxx series to come out so I can find a bargain on the 8800GT. If I can swing a decent SLi mobo then one day I can buy another GT for less than I paid for the first one. So far I'm trying to wait until May before I begin my rebuild. Oh and a new Kentfield e8400 @ $183.00 US is right up my alley.:smilewink: All things in moderation, eh? Otherise, I just sold my old BFG 6800 Ultra for about $80.00. It was $450.00 new. darryl
  6. very high settings? thanks for correcting me, kiss4luna. Always best to get such things right.;) Do you have Crysis? If so, what' your system spec? Flyby
  7. I don't want any twubble Please, no talk of spies. :music_whistling:
  8. I think it's a great production. I even watched a few more of your vidoes, and I see you have the knack. Keep up the great work. As for not being realistic, Max, it's a sim. If, in a sim a MiG-25 can be found down low, perhpas a kill is possible? Were I to fly the Foxbat, I'd never be down low, giving up my advantages, but that would be real life. Flyby
  9. who's gonna shoot Bubu now? Leafer!!!!:megalol::megalol::megalol::megalol:
  10. my take on afm realism I think it would be great if an actual Black Shark pilot got to fly the BS sim. Maybe that's happening now? Anyway, I want to say I expect that the fm will be difficult to fly, intitally, at it's hightest setting. Maybe that BS (actual) pilot could rate the fm. Then we might embrace "relative" realism as an expression of the fidelity of the fm. Simulated realism seems an oxymoron (stupid oxen?). Imagine the cpu load you'd have if the world of BS was true to real life. (In LOMAC I turn civilian traffic off to save a few cpu cycles.) Add wind effects on the flight model, on trees, on weapons, then toss in heat and humidity, or cold dry air, to also effect engine performance and airfoil efficiency. Now toss in some lard@ss of a pilot. I've read that there are computers in the U.S that simulate nuclear explosions, doing (perhaps) trillions of calculations per second. I wonder if Bush, as a lame-duck president could get me some time on that rig? Then I could loan that time to ED to test the fm. A kid in a candy store, for sure. But I'd never be able to play BS on any system available to the public. Whoops I'm starting to ramble. :music_whistling: To quote Rozanne Rozanadanna, "nevermind" Flyby
  11. Leafer, you trouble maker! Well Leafer, you've gone and done it again! Great question, and a lightning response form Wags too! The info is very interesting and a bit titillating. I do now wonder what explosions will morp into going from dx8 to dx9. Maybe if someone at ED can get to it, it would be nice to post before and after shots which show the implementation of dx9? If ya don't ask...;) Oh, I read about a config change in Crysis that allows the high settings to be rendered in winxp/dx9. I think I came across it at Tom's hardware. To that note, I too am staying with winxp/dx9 for now, though my next card will support dx10. I quess this means all things have been pushed back a bit to give ED time to find and reconcile any relaed issues. Better to find and fix now, I'm sure we all agree. :) Anyway, more info always help. good post. S~ Flyby
  12. EricJ a Tornado fan? Wow someone who remembers DID's Tornado! :D What a sim that was, eh EricJ? That mission builder was great. I recall it would indicate if you added too much armament, not enough fuel, etc. Also, creating the attack routes was cool too. Then flying the mission on auto with the cruise altitude set at 200ft. There were only a few times, as I recall, that I survived my attacks on airfields. Also, laser-designating targets form the back seat was great. Oh! I still have the Desert Storm expansion video for Tornado. It's free to a good home, except for shipping. ;) Flyby
  13. Thanks for chiming in Wags. One more thing known, plus a tiny glimpse into the future plans of DCS. Seems like the groundwork for a long relationship to me. ;) Flyby
  14. ya DSL! sounds good to me. I'll be good to go (once I go). Thanks WHMM! Almost back online, Flyby
  15. well here's hoping! Thanks for the co-signing of the question, WHMM. Here's an aside question for you. I notice in your sig that you (too) have dsl. I have never gamed online with dls, haven't had it very long and I haven't been gaming for a while now. How is the connection working out? Also, what fsb are you running your ram on? thanks, Fly
  16. Hey this thread is hanging in there. Now if only someone from ED or otherwise in the know wil come in and tell us if such dynamic lighting is in the plan. I like the idea of shadows cast by close objects (with maybe a way to set the range at which those shadows become rendered). I like the thinking that humans have predator eyes, meaning our eyes are naturally drawn to movement. Imagine hovering behind a small group of trees which are between you and the sun. When the trees sway in a breeze, eyes look to the movement. Also imagine the shadow cast that makes you look up in time to see another Black Shark passing right over you. Heck i don't know. I want all the cool stuff that will keep me immersed for hours at a time. Oh, can I have it by the middle of next week?:music_whistling: Flyby
  17. Oh! I see now That would be quite a sim. I think it will come some day along with increased computing power, and greater bandwidth. I can see the new motherboards that, with only a bios tweak, handle several cpus. Can you see "three quads in a drawer"? :P Flyby
  18. what about mission planning? I'm not real clear on what you're asking, but I think you're asking if dissimilar military assests should be in the control of the BS pilot on the battlefield. Is this correct? If so, and I have to command dissimilar AI units in a fluid battle situation I don't think flying the KA-50 is the best bird to be in. It's the best single-seat helicopter gunship atfer all. Maybe when the AWACS is modelled? :P Flyby
  19. all hopes and guesses are welcome, but data is acceptable too. ;)
  20. I will feel so stoopid if game engine lighting has been covered, but I had to ask, after reading the FAQ, and doing a search (no joy either way). Will exterior and interior lighting changes be implemented? For instance, if sitting in the BS cockpit and rotating the heli from a hover, will I see changing interior shadows and glaring, showing the effect of sunlight (clear day/cloudy day)? In exterior view how will the sunlight be implemented, say while flying along with sunrise at your back? Can it be expected that during rising of the sun, shadows and color of ground objects (buldings, forests, fields, tanks, etc) will change accordingly? You know me. Just trolling for info. Flyby
  21. it's ArmA? I'd have never known that. :( Well, Happy New Year all!! :D Flyby
  22. found this on Youtube just a bit gory, but all in black and white what is being said? I don't know the language. Flyby
  23. nice promo video there. The Hog only requires secured airspace so it can operate in a CAS environment. Thanks for posting! Always good to see the gau in action. ;) Flyby
  24. He stopped working!!! I can't believe you stopped slaving away JUST to update us! No soup for you, Matt! :megalol: Now I have to be of good cheer, and wish all of DCS_Land a great holiday season. That was a great update; impressive stuff coming for us Black Shark fans. I like the idea of those two chosen campaigns too. And having worked out avenues for contribution by the modding community is bound to be a great success and a footprint for other sim producers to follow (getting modders involved during the creation of a study sim). Nicely done! Thanks Wags! Flyby
