  1. The Gazelle was designed as a light transport, scouting and light attack helicopter, with a crew of two. The Ka-50 was designed as a single seat attack helicopter. So two entirely different roles. I think if you keep to the intended roles, both are excellent simulations. :smilewink: The Ka-50, with wingman/flight, is an impressive weapons platform and able to take a considerable amount of damage and get you home. Systems redundancies and even an ejector seat tell you what its about!:) Although, that said, the Ka-50's data link makes it a useful scout helicopter! Navigation around the DCS map is well implemented, with moving map and waypoint update available via "fixes" (Viggen anybody!). Since we fly alone in DCS, (unless using a shared cockpit model) the workload is going to be high in a helicopter designed for two crew. (Probably why an Apache sim has not been attempted). The Ka-50 is perhaps the most accurate simulation for us DCS simmers, fulfilling the single seat attack role. The Russian design for a single seat attack helicopter was very bold and I understand subsequent decisions not to continue with its development are perhaps linked to the extremely high workload experienced by the pilots. Not to mention the development of the Ka-52, which as a two seat attack derivative, followed the US example of a weapons position in addition to the pilot. So horses for courses, a personal choice. One thing that's worth a mention is that if you own an Occulus Rift, the sensation of "being there" is greatest in a helicopter.;) Happy simming.
  2. Looks like a good buy this weekend! What navigation instruments are available? Any VOR/NDB?
  3. Set up a small practise mission with an SA-8. It uses j band and I band radar to track you and its missile. It can fire and track two missiles simultaneously. Attack it with your ECM on (try different modes and the auto mode) and try it without ECM. Can you see a difference? TACVIEW is also great to have here! Regards David
  4. Thanks. Its a powerful weapon indeed. Reminds me a bit of the JP233, certainly in its ferocity, but of course we can't knock out runways with the Viggens bk90 cluster bomblets? Cheers:)
  5. What is the code to enter after 91. The manual is not too specific. VALB (selectable) – The weapon’s altitude is set by the value in address 91 in mode TAKT/ IN. Possible intervals is set to 30 – 500 m. After clearing TAKT or entering value 0, the default altitude of 60 m is set. STD (Standard) – The default value of 60 m is set. Attack altitude The attack altitude is always 60 metres AGL. Cheers David
  6. With the Normandy map comming soon, can we fly the Viggen in that? For that matter, can we fly all our modules in Normandy?
  7. The synoptic charts would provide QFF. QFF = the actual pressure at a measuring station, reduced to mean sea level. It in essence is the opposite to QFE where QFE is the MSL pressure adjusted for the height of the staion. QFF is what is used on meteorological synoptics charts with isobars. Given the mission objectives the Viggen was designed for, the current target derived QFE target setting, in the mission map and printed in the kneeboard, would seem fit for purpose. However we always want our missions to do more! I would guess that in a more fluid battle zone, a JTAC would be equipped to provide an extra line of information, the QFE at the target. So its down to some clever programmer with the ability to add a pressure reading to the JTAC target coordinates:book: Great food for thought!:D Regards David.
  8. Yes that's what I thought. Just leave dynamic weather off. Keep barometric pressure even, like a typical Anticyclonic weather system. I would like to see the JTAC including pressure at target, I really enjoy using JTAC in the Hog and Ka50. With the Viggens Lola system, its ideal for quickly setting up targets from JTAC/AFAC. I can see some hours spent in the mission planner!:smilewink: Regards David
  9. (1000-250=750) I think a typo? I really like this idea, can't wait to try it out since I like using JTAC! Although its outside the intended Sweedish mission methodology for the Viggen, which was to attack known Soviet targets, from a pre planned route. Nice quick method though.:) The only question is what if the barometric pressure is different over the target, than the pressure at your take off airfield? Would this not affect the altitude? I havn't checked, but if the pressure is constant over the DCS World map, then this should be ok. Regards, David.
  10. May I ask how you have mapped the radar stick? Specifically the T0-T1-TV? We don't have a two way trigger on the x55. I would just upload your pro folder with the Viggen assignments. Regards David
  11. HI Nicholas, The Viggen will be my next DCS purchase. I trust I will not have to wait 6 months to fly it! I have already read the manual and watched all the You Tube vids.:) I would have purchased it already, if it had appeared in my modules page on my DCS 1.5! I don't understand why someone decided it had to be released only on the "beta" 1.5.6? Does it not run well in the release (stable) 1.5? Best regards, David
  12. Precisely! I would have purchased the Viggen already if it was released for my 1.5 version. When I realised that I would have to have a "beta" 1.5.6 version, sitting alongside my 1.5, I simply could not see the point. The "bugs", I don't like, are to do with the 1.5.6 beta platform, not the Viggen! The 1.5.6 is a "beta" platform. I choose not to run a beta platform. I do not mind buying a full price aircraft module, even if it is an "early release". I can tell you, just watching xxjohn'sxx and Bunyap's videos, the Viggen looks well developed already! I will buy it immediately I see it in my 1.5 "modules ready to buy" section.:D Cheers David
  13. If it goes on to 1.5 stable on next update, they will have my purchase for sure! I have read all the reports here and watched all Bunyap's and xxjohn'sxx you tube videos, so I am completely sold on the Viggen. Its having to download the 1.5.6 beta World that's not really my cup of tea! Thanks for the reply guys. I can wait another week. :book: Best regards David
  14. Hello all. I was all set to buy the Viggen, this weekend, especially after all the hard work the devs have done in the first patch. But then I began reading the "bugs" section of the 1.5.6 beta. I have a flawless 1.5.5 release version. I am therefore reluctant to buy the Viggen to fly in a "beta" 1.5.6 which is obviously going through further development to eradicate bugs. Can anyone say if the 1.5.6 has acceptable behaviour (especially shadows) enough to justify installing it along side my release version? I feel disappointed to have to buy a full priced aircraft, only to have to run it in a beta DCS World. It makes me feel like I am paying to be a beta tester, shouldn't it be the other way around? Regards, David
  15. https://www.mediafire.com/?8li4379hq84uaqi Hello Mustang. The scenery looks identical to your 1.20, a couple of files are smaller. I cant tell the difference? Its got your name on the JSGME, so I figured it was all your work? Beats me where it came from. I will grab you 1.21 when its done. The textures are absolutely superb and FPS are smoother!:D Regards David
  16. Yes, copy that thanks. I will probably grab the Viggen this weekend and go about assigning my X55. There should be enough hats to assign the radar and the force sender stick. There's no double detent on the trigger, but I could probably use the stick pinky and another button. Half the fun is working out an ergonomic system for the HOTAS. But I really need the aircraft first!;) Cheers, David
  17. Thanks. I have an x55 Throttle and Stick and two X52's in the cupboard. I was thinking either one of the mini hats on the x55 throttle for the radar? But I like the idea of using a x52 stick as the radar. Will have to experiment! But then there's that force sensing stick (right side Viggen cockpit)? Is that for controlling the rb5? Ohmygosh, I need a bigger table! There's some interesting times ahead for this Sweedish beauty! Cheers David
  18. On the subject of assignments, since there is a separate "joystick" for the radar, I was wondering if you could plug in another joystick and assign the radar controls to it? I have a couple of spare Saitek sticks in the cupboard, could they be used as the radar stick? I don't have the Viggen yet but studying all the possibilities first! Cheers David
  19. Have you set one of the waypoints as a target, "M"? I think you require a Time on Target in order for the system to give you a countdown to take off, in order to achieve a TOT. page174. Take-off time If the aircraft is on the ground and a Time on Target is set, a planned take-off time is displayed. An empty first digit indicates time to throttle-up on take-off and a minus sign indicates the time after take-off should have occurred.
  20. I think there is a 1.6_v1.2 out now as per 21-01-2017? Anyone know the changes? http://www.mediafire.com/file/8li4379hq84uaqi/Mustangs_Textures_1.6_V1.20.rar
  21. I was thinking of buying the Mirage and I looked for an English cockpit first! Just to let you know you do important work for DCS!:D Regards David
  22. That's great. Thanks very much. Using the Latest World Alpha in Nevada is still difficult to use Lat. Long. I will try the new JTAC MGRS system with the converter! Regards David
  23. This video by Gerry Abbott is very helpful; Enjoy this great sim!:)
  24. I know this has been mentioned before, but as we progress to a fully integrated sim, I wondered if the single player wingmen AI could receive some attention? It appears to be mostly an issue in A10c, since the Ka-50 wingmen have no trouble following orders? :music_whistling: A recent mission, Smerch Hunt, revealed the only occasion my wingman complied with orders to attack, was when the order was, "attack ground targets at my SPI with Missiles" (Maverick)...Even though he was loaded with Mk 82's and CBU 87, the only weapon he would employ was the Maverick. All other requests were met with.. "Affirm....Re-join...RTB"? He didn't RTB as it happened, but just flew along enjoying the view. I appreciate many fly on line, but the Single Player is a superb feature, perhaps its just my wingman who requires more discipline!:) Cheers David
  25. Time to fit that ECM suite.... This article would have us believe that the Ka-50 has;- Avionics Flight systems include inertial navigation system (INS), autopilot and head-up display (HUD). Sensors include forward-looking infrared (FLIR) and terrain-following radar. Countermeasures The Ka-50 is fitted with a radar warning receiver, electronic warfare system and chaff and flare dispenser. Erm...Here's the link;- http://www.army-technology.com/projects/ka50-black-shark/ Well...its a thought?:megalol: Cheers David
