I do very much agree, but one can´t really expect people not to jump out of their seats and start speculating when they read something like the confusing bits that have leaked to the public out of the blue and without any further explanation. The silence now is only understandable, but as one of the initial backers I have always shown patience, support and tried to share constructive criticism whenever I did comment on anything. Right now, I can´t help but feel a little like someone who has been left standing in the rain. I am saying this not to assign blame and I guess the mdoerators do understand this as well, but still... This already is a (PR) fiasco, no matter how it will turn out in the end.

They just came out of nowhere? Nice pit!

That confused me, too.

Really? :) The scope for the new map was initially A-10C training missions and it lends itself pretty well for Red-Flag-style missions. Don´t forget that this is how it all started.

Cool, I must have missed that somehow. :) Looks like we´ll have to relocate to Nevada for sling load training... or at least I hope so. :music_whistling:

The Huey isn´t listed as 1.2.7 beta in the main menu anymore...

The part about the actual reasons behind the events and the possible consequences, yes. And I see access to the sub-forum has been completely locked by now...
-
I was "lucky" enough to read most of it before the sub-forum disappeared and even after that you should still able to access it through your browser´s surf history. It is currently invisible and read only, very much like the IRIS sub-forum. Some internal dispute led to a premature statement about the project´s cancellation and after word got around people were going crazy over this in the sub-forum. So far, there has only been one comment by Cobra on this forum that I know of. The status is "on hold" pending the resolution of their dispute or whatever it may be. He also wrote some more on the SimHQ forums...

According to a mod´s comments in order to contain speculation and because ED will only have such a sub-forum on their site if they have complete confidence in a 3rd party developer. Pending resolution and hopefully clarification by the devs concerned...

Sublte light shafts on clouds sure would be nice, depending on the atmospheric conditions.

Concerning your verdict - how does owning all DCS modules change the set of facts based on which one could be able to accurately judge the value/quality of EDGE? The BMX bikes make up the ground detail at airports, which is very much part of what you were referring to. Also, look at vehicles there for example. They are modeled with more detail in current DCS. It´s quite interesting to compare the individual differences... But enough, I don´t care for an argument here. There´s no point. As far as my opinion on this goes, differentiated criticism of DCS World should be encouraged, not the polemics and generalised attitudes that may go along with it. No offense.

Ask a 3rd Party Dev - Live Broadcast Q&A - Jan 18th
upupandaway replied to Ells228's topic in Community News
Thanks Ells for your detailed answers in the Q&A. -
Just for fun I had a look at screenshots from ORBX and GEX. EDGE comes quite close to the level of detail at airports that you can see there and in some cases even surpasses it clearly. The crowds - ok, there are no women in dresses and kids on their BMX bikes strolling around on the airfields in DCS, but that is something I for myself can live without. REX looks stunning of course, but this project clearly focusses on the realism of weather effects. Should ED work exclusively on their weather engine for a year so it´ll look just like that? In terms of immersion ED is going the right way (slowly, ok): the new sounds in the 1.2.7 open beta prove that. You should reserve judgement until EDGE is actually released. We all know little to nothing about ED´s concrete plans regarding any of this. And even without EDGE, DCS so looks nothing like games from 1999, especially not flight sims... :)

Could those be rain curtains in the far left background or is it just the the cloud formation from even further into the background?

DCS: Roadmap (unofficial - NO DISCUSSION HERE)
upupandaway replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS 2.9
It´s always good to speak up, but there´s no need for hissy fits or threats of autoagressive behaviour (discarding FC3). ;) ED has proven art several points that they respect the trust and investments that supporters have made at an earlier point in the development cycle of a product. BS2 was different, but worth it. And if you ask me, so would be said AFM patch (for a modest price). Of course I´d like to get it for free, but there´s no use getting upset before anything is set, carved in stone... Dont´even know what the current status on this is, but I faintly recall something about it being free for FC3 buyers...?! Have a good one -
Hi there! I´m certainly no authority on that subject, but it has been brought up before. There were some screenshots of beczl´s MiG-21 which showcased such an effect (I think you can still find them on his homepage). In how far such a mechanic has been prepared for or implemented into DCS World and its modules hasn´t been specified so far, I think. At some point this is going to be done (like damage model for example), probably as a part of further development of the weather system. Currently it´s probably not a high priority. EDIT: It´s in Silver Dragon´s unofficial list, right here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1931681&postcount=2

When this is released in th EU I´ll have to get one. If both throttle and stick can be used separately, it might be nice to combine the G940 stick with the X-55 throttle for example... Best of both worlds.

Let´s just hope the ED devs won´t ever get locked up for their work on the maps like it happened in the case of BI ^^ Tha might slow down their progress. There is something in several screenshots that looks a little like Ambient Occlusion (unless it´s been baked into the textures).

Russian forum model WIP...
upupandaway replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Same as when the Su-27 was updated...? It´s great news though - thanks for the find! -
Christmas is a messy business - let´s hope that all will be well next year, especially for those who suffered such tragic misfortune (not that the dog really ends up eating their work at some point). Screens are looking quite nice, but I can only agree: why not in proper resolution?

66% off on steam vs 60% off in the DCS store?
upupandaway replied to howie87's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
That is the true fun in CA and it seems it´s one of the few places where camping isn´t frowned upon. :D
