  1. You are right, but I am aware of that (Wags basically said it in his post, and not for the first time). This wasn´t supposed to be any form of criticism. The comparison in fps between this and the other scenes just made me think of that particular point (which is still very much unclear at present). Did not want to spread any panic. :) EDGE ftw
  2. +1 Anyway, I noticed that the framerate in the vid seemed quite low and choppy around the part where downtown LV is showcased at dusk. What I wonder most about at this point how well it is going to perform in the end. I´m probably gonna build a new PC for it, but it might also be due to Wags hardware specs. Time will tell...
  3. ...and linking videos of older versions of EDGE doesn´t count. :)
  4. I know the feeling. Just keep it up and eventually you´ll be right. ;) But, seriously - there should be several news that will make many of us around here quite happy quite soon. And the new GUI is nice to have.
  5. Do I look like a cat to you? :) But seriously, it´s just a little frustrating to see that somewhere in ED´s licensed engine there are newer maps and models than what is publicly available today. I´m patient though.
  6. Luckily that´s not a real problem, I still sleep just fine. But we´ve been shown so much over the last weeks and months and it´s all still out in the open when or if any of this will ever be available - I fear much of this winter might be wasted doing useless and nonsensical things like reading for example... ;)
  7. Aargh, it haunts me that there may be an unknown number of secnarios that were developed for some version of EDGE and that might just work perfectly within DCS, if it weren´t for some contractual agreement that prohibits any such use. With all the maps that we have gotten a glimpse of DCS would sure be my new home adress... And BTW: There are some F-16s in the video. Does the current model even have a canopy animation or could those be potential new models within DCS? I can´t really tell. Or is this just content that was created by AVIA?
  8. I don´t really see the problem in saving a ton of variables, transforming the mission state into a save file that the ME could load again later. There are enough other game that create/handle huge savegame files (TES for example). If some of the variables aren´t stored right now, would it be so complicated to add them to mission files? Apart from that I don´t really think it´s THE most important thing in DCS right now, certainly not more important than a new engine or modules as tose will add different things which are at least equally important to me personally.
  9. Several years back, a former girlfriend of mine introduced me to Action-RPGs with TES: Morrowind. It is one of my favorite series until today. Later, I tried talking a female friend of mine into fyling the A-10C just for a moment to get an impression, but I did not succeed... Playing flightims is mostly considered quite nerdy, to some degree even within the gaming community itself. People must be rather concious of the things projected on them as a minority to even raise such a question by themselves: Are XXX part of our community and what does it imply? Usually, in the gaming world, it is women who speak up because they feel disrespected and want to be acknowledged as equal members of the community. Luckily these forums are visited by mostly very civil people and even the servers don´t see excessive hating and trolling like elsewhere. I think that´s rather something to be proud of which this thread also represents to me. Maybe the flight sim community could partly mimic whatever the military does to specifically adress female pilots so the community may grow further. Going to schools and all that...
  10. Yay, how nice to see two such great updates in one day! Love the work you guys are doing, even though it may be unfinished. It clearly shows great talent and attention to detail.
  11. Don´t read something into it that I didn´t write, please. My inquiry was just aiming for the circumstances during the initial / conceptual phase of development, not games being pushed out in an unfinished state because the publisher has run out of patience. Really just being curious... Just so there is no misunderstanding - this was more or less my initial point.
  12. One question in this context - just out of curiosity: CoD had a publisher, for DCS WWII we are basically in the role of the publishers. At the beginning of such a project, after it has been greenlit by a publisher, how often are progress update expected by them? I know this might differ heavily depending on the particular circumstances, but do the publishers get all the dirty details about the confusing and unfinished lines of code that have been written during a week and so on? Or does it tend to be more like "ok, you have a couple of weeks now, when some of the basic features are taking shape, report back etc. etc."? This would interest me.
  13. Oh, I know that story, and yes, I have played it - after I bought it for 5€ on steam last year... I gave the man my money because I want to support his idea / the project. Right now, I (personally!) don´t think the updates are too decisive. He´s probably still busy working on his reward lists or whatever. As I said, if this were to happen at a later and more crucial point in development, I might worry.
  14. Agree - that´s why I wrote it would make sense to at least post that there is nothing to post really, just to break the silence and communicate. Personally, I don´t really care too much about it right now. Other projects for DCS interest me much more, especially since it´s about a year away. If anything goes wrong at that time, I might be worried.
  15. Very much agree - I think that is a very sensible attitude. What´s so unusual about a delay? Pretty much all 3rd parties are behind shedule with their updates. Even ED has backed away from the regular updates, plus in the course of the KS-campaign they practically vouched for Ilya and the project, so it´s all legit. I also agree that it might be a nice gesture on Ilya´s behalf to at least post that there´s nothing worth posting about, but I´m not getting excited about it. If a greater number of people does however for this delay of news, I don´t want to know what´s gonna happen if (or when) the projected release date of Sep 2014 is not met because the game might not be 100% ready... Concerning the lack of updates: I suggest to Ilya to do as beczl has done - release an update every month and just call it a weekly update. ;)
  16. Indeed +1 I loved Jane´s F-18E back in the day. lol
  17. A wise precaution. You have a point, but this could also be done with any other aircraft that has A2A capability, no? What scares me is how casually you go over the point of possible delays. ;) But seriously - while most projects seems to be more or less on time by ED´s current timetable, there is so much left to get the complex environment of DCS in better shape if you look what kind of bugs and glitches are being reported. I personally do not just want as many cool modules as possible, I also want the functional, engageing and immersive environment to come with it. But I guess the ED staff will know best how to approach thiss anyway.
  18. Thanks for the re-post. Where did you find it? So the F-15 might become module no. 21 to be released within the next 18 months? :music_whistling:
  19. I´m having one right now ;)
  20. I don´t think it´s really typical. Sometimes, even if you check the most relevant threads, you will miss some news because they are posted somewhere else - a little like a treasure hunt. News have never really been solid, especially since everything is subject to change. I can live with that as long as I am being informed by the devs about the general direction and landmarks in development. Wags wrote that he was making the announcement because the BST site is down and as the F-15 AFM is their work it would fall to them to make an annoucement. His post was probably just a temporary placeholder.
  21. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1918954&postcount=20 ;)
  22. It is well hidden in the FC3 announcement thread, but I think it has been moved or deleted by now. Link does no longer work, but he stated in his post that he was making this announcement only as a placeholder for BST because their site was down. Basically: BST developed AFM for FC3 F-15 over the last 8 months, Yoyo is doing the Su-27 AFM (no specifics though) and release is probably (!) going to be at the end of November. Oh, and everything is subject to change... ;) Correct me if I´m wrong.
  23. Definitely after the F-18, and what is the intent of this poll? Make the F-15 a priority before everything else? If so, then I´d say no. There are so many other important things to be realised and fixed before in DCS. I´m very much pro new DCS-level modules, but in this context it doesn´t make too much sense to me to add another huge project. The FC3 F-15 AFM already contributes to DCS with a new "supersonic AFM" and the rest may come later, just please not at the cost of current developments.
  24. The K70 sure looks nice. I had been eying that one for a while too. In the end I went for the CM Storm Trigger, which I don´t regret to this day. Don´t underestimate the value of decent lighting on a keyboard - it really bugs me that my laptop doesn´t have it. Anyway, most of the mechanical keyboards are of very good to excellent build quality and typing is superfast. The devil is mostly in the details (additional features) and you should know what you want out of the keyboard.
  25. In one of the Kickstarter videos (the first?) ED officially stated they plan to release ~20 modules over the next 18 months, so there´s that. What seems strange to me is that this quite official and relevant information is more or less hidden away in the FC3 thread?
