  1. What date is the included navaids database in the NS430, and, is it possible to update it using, for instance, Navigraph service ( as used for FSX / P3D / X-Plane ) ?
  2. Will test again MAD-MM, because it appeared to me that problem was gone when I tested it yesterday. I did it from the default Caucasus takeoff Quick Mission. Didn't try at non-paved airfields in Normandy.
  3. We have something in common apart from a passion for aviation :-) I attended that Java Kickoff at Berlim, by SUN, in October 1997... As a teaching assistant at Lisbon University until 1995 I did use it, here and there, but until today my only truly / real programming language ever was "C" - plain good old "C", where all the compilers are Perfect! :-) - no bugs, no snags whatsoever, other than those we poor into our code ….
  4. I'm on your boat jef32, but I have to remind myself that I am being given the chance to use this combat sim mostly for civil flying in what I still consider the most advanced general purpose flight simulation engine presently available for desktop PCs because the developers have given me the chance to try the Yak-52, the UH-1H and the Mi-8 or even the L-39 as you you put it... Also, most of my soaring activity happened out of an Airbase here in Portugal, where I was flying the air cadets AS-K21 and surrounded by fighter aircraft, military cargo airplanes, helicopters and ATC... No problem with that. Actually at some of the Caucasus airports we do get civil or hybrid aircraft. Let's not give ideas to all of those who still think that it's a shame ED truned their attention a bit into the civil side of the pond, specially now that Matt has mentioned further civil modules an EVEN ( HEAVEN !!! ) a chance of full Earth Map coverage !!!!!
  5. And that's the best we can do DeepDrummer, enjoy what we already have and look fwd for fine tuning at least because for me there is still no alternative in the level of detail class where DCS stands... Complexity also brings lot's of chances for code bug gizmos... That's unfortunately the only thing we can always expect from any piece of software :-) But the cockpit graphics, even with their present quirks, the sounds you and me hear, the feel of flight users with good controller setups can get out of it [ not my case, with a cheap desktop teeny weeny stick :-) ]… Then the fact that looking back into my tail I see, while cruising, my elevator slightly deflected down, as I watch in the movies and shots of real Spitfires flying, the fact that I have had to train my takeoffs and landings, instead of chopping my throttle and dance just a little bit on my rudder without any nasty outcomes like in all other flightsims with Spitfires, civil or combat, I have tried... So, thanks for your POSITIVE OP - Positivism is one of the secrets to fight our natural / morbid tendency to feel frustrated and stressed :-)
  6. This has been brought to discussion ad-nauseum and yet, from time to time, someone brings up this same question and usually Yo-Yo answers. In a very old thread, maybe 2 yrs ago, I also posted some of the shots Yo-Yo posted above. Is it plausible ? Yes from a flight simulation perspective and because the damage model is not complete, which doesn't really puzzle me since it's an ongoing work on a 40 buck add-on for a desktop flight simulation game ! IRL it would probably never happen because if the guy survived the hits he would have ejected ASAP... But aerodynamically it is possible of course.
  7. Just installed the latest OB, from yesterday ( 20181019 ) which should be the same of 2.5 stable, and picked the 109 k-4 for a ride. Looks OK to me! As usual it is the only 109 I can taxi and takeoff with using proper RW techniques, so, it's just fine for me :-) Is it absolutely Perfect ? probably not, but heck, it's a 40 buck add-on for a desktop flight simulator...
  8. Indeed, a unique rendition of the Spitfire, like we can't find in any other flight simulator, combat or civil… And yet we tend to forget about it and only focus on the problems it still has ( and yet it is still in open beta !!! )
  9. JG4, culd you ( at you own risk... ) delete all of the settings for the Spitfire under the "Saved Games" folder of your windows account ( assuming you're on win 10 ) ? Supposedly it will rebuild it from scratch. Yes you will have to go through the tedious assignment of your axis and buttons, but maybe you get it sorted out that way ?
  10. I would suggest that other controller is borrowing the pitch axis from the one you think is assigned to it. Make sure there's only ** one ** axis assigned to pitch!
  11. Are you using rudder trim to Starboard for takeoff ? If so, you'll have to "undo" it for cruise. Don't use rudder - use rudder trim instead because although still a bit abrupt in this DCS Spitfire, it is certainly a finner adjustment.
  12. And I can only confirm you did a remarkable job with the fs9 Kingair that was, by that time, my preferred MSFS add-on ever! Well, together with the by that time also great "BlackBox" airbuses... But indeed, AcroGimp's contributions are Superb! Unfortunately we can't have the similar for the other modules, with the exception of the UH-1H and probably the Gazelle ( don't own this one... ), so, we will never be able to tell if what we find weird is realistic or not... I still have some hope to see this Yak-52 fine tuned. AcroGimp
  13. Airbus ok, but Boeing c*u does compensate automatically for configuration changes ( gear, flaps / slats ). Anyway in an airliner mostly the pitching moments due to thrust changes force an integration of techniques.
  14. Basically, use pitch for speed, thrust for v/s, for your glide path control. This applies pretty much to every GA, even on the bigger types, but turns out to be not absolutely true in airliners, namely heavier ones like a 744, where indeed a combination of the two is required to control your v/s and approach speed. In FBW aircraft this tends to be automatically compensated by the system, both under Airbus C* and Boeing's C*u. That's what I meant. Anyway, it's true that due to many other factors, a combination of both is always used.
  15. Me too !!!! :music_whistling: Well, it's a stylish throttle the one I have - they call it speedbrake - but works pretty much the same way :-) I believe that probably only airliners other than FBW, can be in a different league, the 747s being a good example. Other than that it's pretty much the same basic rule. So Chuck, you're ok Man !
  16. Well, I guess he did it to come down for landing. But it's not really required to idle - simply reducing power to 0 boost will do the trick I guess...
  17. Phil, he stated he noticed it when idling the engine... It's normal under such circumstances, even at neutral rudder trim settings, to notice a right banking tendency, if not for reasons related with fin cant, or ground adjustable aileron trim tabs ( which I believe the Spitfire doesn't have ), at least due to the negative propwash speed.
  18. Hey Fred! You're back :-) !
  19. And it is correct, from a flight Dynamics point-of-view.
  20. That's Good News then! Not odd at all, even as a matter of fact :-) I haven't been using DCS lately, and I honestly don't recall if it used to be like that, but if not, then it was wrong as it was before and was probably fine tuned. the OP mentioned testing at iddle, but even sometimes just at reduced power settings, a right rolling tendency is natural of any aircraft with a CW rotating prop because propwash speed becomes negative as well as the natural compensation for torque has no longer anything to counter. In the Spitfire I really don't know if the vertical fin is built with some cant, but probably the ground adjustable aileron trim tab(s), set to compensate for cruise or a bit higher power settings will also contribute since there is no longer prop torque to compensate for, but rather a negative torque resulting from the "negative" propwash.
  21. Although not having the full 5 senses / seat of pants sensation plays a major role in the innability to sometimes control the simulated aircraft...
  22. I'm far from being an ww2 aircraft ( or anything ) expert, but if you mean "deploying while on ground" no, and from what I have watched in youtubes of 109 k4 s the same happens to the real counterpart... In flight the deployment is kind of abrupt. I prefer the graphical representation in that other sim you also use. It's also possible to see ( in both sims ) these deploy asymmetrically, but it's more difficult to get it in DCS than in IL-2. Overall, it's a 50 / 50 in details and quality for me... But this DCS model is the only one where I really naturally feel the need to input rudder to coordinate my turns and other maneuvers - it's as if "I was there" … It's DCS, after all :-)
  23. Yeah... happens with pretty much all sims - I get bored with it, uninstall... then after a while I miss it again or something tempting makes me re-install and give it another chance... ( last was the release if the Yak-52 ) There are two exclusions to this rule. One I believe I shouldn't mention here, the other is Aerowinx PSX :-) Maybe if someday Yo-Yo creates a glider for it ...DCS World will keep permanently installed ...
  24. :-( Can't help right now, DCS not even installed…. I believe eache beta is introduicing slight changes from what I've been Reading. A pitty that most of it isn't properly documented :-/
  25. You"ll be good with rudder trim only, and elevator trim of course…
